To be honest, as beautiful as I've always known Schubert's Ave Maria to be, it was not part of my Christmas "canon" until recently. I started performing it at shows this year, and discovered that more people than I realized listen to it mostly at Christmas. And so it was my great pleasure to have an excuse to record this great ode to Mary for The First Noel EP.

When I listen to Marc Martel, I don't hear Freddie. I hear an incredibly talented singer in his own right, who has great range and can do a killer impression of a legendary frontman if he wants to. Whether it's Downhere, Queen Extravaganza, or just Marc, you're pretty darn good.

Marc listen to all your music. There's no one near as good as you singing Freddie's songs but Ava Maria is outstanding.
A couple of weeks ago we saw Marc Martel and his Queen tribute band "One Vision" at the Fisher Performing Arts Center at Belmont University. The band was great and Marc was incredible (he sings many of Freddie Mercury's parts in the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, so he clearly has amazing vocal chops). However, the highlight of the evening for me was his performance of Ave Maria, which he dedicated to those killed a few days earlier at the Covenant school. It was a beautiful rendition of a beautiful song.

As someone who has a very unusual bond to Freddie, and I normally hate people comparing artists with others because everyone is so unique and talented as are you. but I have to say, you singing this is the closest thing I can get to hearing Freddie sing it and I cry listening and watching you sing this all the time now.
