Drum Solo section from the tune, No Problem Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers (France 1959) Lee Morgan (t) Wayne Shorter (ts) Walter Davis Jr (p) Jymie Merritt (b) Art Blakey (d)
To ALL of you showing love, your kind words, on behalf of the Blakey family, THANK YOU. My paps loved to know his music moved you in a positive way. If he made you smile, clap your hands, stomp your feet, get up and dance, or lay back and enjoy the moment- then he accomplished what he wanted. Love you ALL
Art Blakey was the best ever. No other drummer moves me like that. It’s outer worldly. My favorite album is Free For All. Much respect to your family. Pittsburgh is a legendary jazz city.
Rest assured that your grandfather touched people around the world and throughout time. I'm from Denmark and only discovered Art Blakey in the late 1990s. He's such a great band leader! Makes you want to get out of that chair and dance!
Ginger Baker's hero. When Ginger was pressing his hands into the damp concrete, he commented that Art's handprints should have been on that walk of fame. It really pissed Ginger off. 😮
At 16, in 1974, I was the only rock drummer in town that listened to Art Blakey. I was hooked the first time I heard Caravan. He has been in my top 4 or 5 drummers since. And this post shows how did all of that stuff.
Absolutely love art Blakey I sat next to him a few times and watched him play when you see him up close it’s another program so much going on and what a smile God bless him forever jazz forever
Art was a true inspiration and master of drumming! He was on another level and it was and is always will be just pure and virtuosic musicality that came from him! Amazingness!
This was right after Bennie Golson and Bobbie Timmons split. Like Miles, Blakey kept a revolving door to the finest cadre of fresh young talent during the Golden Age of New York jazz.
About 30 years after this was filmed, I saw Art playing Ronnie Scott's. It was an astounding gig, one of the best I've ever been to and an evening I hope I'll never forget.

There's a lot of great drummers out there, but Blakey's playing always reminds me that I'm alive.
Absolutely amazing. I wish I could have seen these legends perform live!
If you look closely you can see the drums smiling

Drummers are saying, "How is he keeping time?"
He owned the time
He is. It's just that he's keeping 4 different times simultaneously.
That was my grandpa for you. In his groove.
Band leader controls time.

You don’t need a big kit, you need brain matter
It's time to get the MPC OUT!!!!
Do you know the original tune ?
@Ryan Remak Thank you !
What was it?
@@cephalicwasteland3504 Tune called is “No problem”
Oh wow... a drum solo... the world doesn't already have enough of these?
This is from 1959… what’s your point?
@@gregmileslewismusic Even then, drum solos were a specialist taste.
_" Specialty of the House "_ 😉👌 @@RebeccaTurner-ny1xx
This isn't a drum solo...it's Art
Gretsch.
