What I think I love most about this is the other competitors aren't on the side looking nervous or focused. Everyone seems to be into the music and they just go one after the other and they're all just having fun.

Note really. I notice that no one seems to care aboput the music. Even the smiule on the last guy is kinda fake. this is a competition, with many hours poured in training.

They all have such unique styles, it makes you wonder how kids back in the swing era experimented with the dance.
I love how the band transitioned seamlessly between partners, and how the music matched the chemistry of the pair dancing. Brilliant stuff!

Whenever I watch swing dance videos I think “are they wearing wheels on the bottoms of their shoes?” They just glide across the floor so smoothly

You should look up old school shuffle. They are the kings of gliding across the floor in a waY that makes you say "wait, they ARNT floating???

They use hardwood floors and they don’t wear shoes with a lot of traction so they can slide decently well but they don’t really slide too much, they mostly tiptoe
They're probably wearing dancing shoes. Dancing shoes may look just like ordinary high heeled shoes, but they're much more stable!
I really like how each couple gets a different soloist playing for their dance, and when they all dance together the entire band plays for them.
I adore the couple at 2:48 .. so cute together, have so much chemistry between them , and they swing the best in my opinion ♡♡

Couple 3:17 did great with engaging the audience and this group overall prepared well for their Jack & Jill's. They have proper dance attire, footwork, form, and great partnerring 🙌💃
I came to the comments hoping to find out who they are so I could check out more of their videos or posts somewhere.
They all seemed to be very into the music and genuinely having fun which makes it so much better, and even more impressive.

Electronic mix of any genre sucks! Keep the music with real instruments and with real vocals. Hate so much of this shit today with computer generated programmed fake garbage that cheaply imitates real instruments and absolutely hate autotune used in vocals.
Style, art, Iove of life, and bloody great fun, all rolled into one. Something that’s been missing from dance floors for many decades.
What I really like about the swing/Lindy Hop community is the openness. Whenever I go to a new city and look for local swing groups, I find people that offer me to show me around town and introduce me to the local scene. Super friendly and welcoming, at every level. I hope things stay that way. Big hug to y'all and keep bouncing on the sunny side of the street! 😎 ❤️

I am ashamed to say that this is my first time watching swing dance. But I am also proud to say that I just fell in love with this dance style.

If I compare this to the professional dance competitions that are broadcasted on TV in Germany every now and then - the smiles in this video are REAL, so is the passion of the dancers on my point of view. Thank you for sharing your joy here.

It’s crazy how they just glide across the floor like that. It looks like they’re flying almost.
Every time I watch this I get really happy because one day I was watching this and my mum saw it and broke into a laughing and smiling fit and I asked why and she said it was because she really likes swing and electro swing music like me and told me a story of when she was in her early 20s or 30s she was in a swing dance competition and she danced just like the girl in the orange or yellow skirt and won and then started to cry because swing or soft music reminded her so much of me and from that day forth I was obsessed over swing music and when I see this particular video it reminds me of that day and never fails to make me smile :>

I took a dance class in the university, their (the peeps in the video) Swing is a lot more energetic and bombastic than what was taught us. Is there more than one type of Swing?

Yes, this is Lindy hop. A lot of studios that offer "swing" lessons are actually teaching east coast, which is like extremely watered down Lindy and is not dynamic. East coast or rock swing is a 4-count dance where you step to each side and once backwards. Normally it's just spinning (like the pretzel) without footwork or connection or technique shown here. Also, it doesn't fit jazz music (which is played in 8 count) which is the count Lindy hop uses. You have to seek out Lindy hop lessons to learn to do this style of dance, and plenty of cities around the world have a Lindy scene like this :)
There's at least two major forms - east coast and West coast swing. Honestly though the best way to find out is to go to a swing dance and start asking haha
