Surely Graham Norton is the greatest talk show host who's ever lived... it never feels "staged" or pre-scripted as much as other talk shows.
I think the yanks would say Johnny Carson was the best - he certainly was great at his craft but Graham's show is allowed to become more than just a 'chat' show, as you alluded to. The entertainment factor is ramped up to its maximum limits.

I really wish that Graham would stop showing fanart to his guests. I get he does it for the shocking reactions, but these things were never meant for the celebrity or the wider world to see. Nothing like putting in hours of work on a piece for it to show up on TV being mocked and laughed at for views. Not to mention being showed to the actor portrayed in it - and in saying that, no one wants to see themselves being sexualised, let alone on national TV in front of an audience. It's shameful and bullying behaviour to the artist and the actor/s as well. Puts me right off his show.
