The glass used for a lot of vintage lenses usually had a Thorium element which was very mildly radioactive. Some used Lanthanum elements like the old Voigtlander Apo Lanthar. Thorium glass turns yellow as years pass by.

I have a theory that the Japanese became great camera manufacturers because of the unique cultural sensitivity to the seasons. Have never been to Japan but have been fascinated by their arts and culture and aesthetics all my life. Far as I know, Japan is the only culture that observes 72 seasons. It is natural that such a culture embraced and perfected the camera to celebrate the passing of time. Your passion for these auxiliary tools to our vision really comes through. Thank you for sharing these.

      Hi my friend,
I think its more due to Japanese perfectionist mindset, that all products must be perfect working. They applied thst philosofy in all the manufactered industries during their economical boom. Plus a low salaries compared with the Western countries at the moment, the Japanese camera brands created super competive products, realible and aforable, overthrowing the German manufacturers (probably slightly better but expensive to produce).
I'm living in Japan and that perfectionist many times is bringed to a sickly point, in my opinion.

The Takumar lenses are great too, some of the best built Japanese lenses around from the 1960s and 1970s.

Lovely video with nice music. I use the Pancolar on my Sony A7. It still gives that lovely old look on digital and it's very sharp too. I used to use my Pentax ME Super with it's 50mm SMC f1.7 lens. I still use that great lens on my digital cameras.

Steve - glad I discovered your channel. Really enjoyed hearing your story about how you fell into vintage camera gear. This vintage equipment is well before my time, but I too feel some type of attachment to the lenses because of their stories and the fact that despite a great passage of time, they have unique qualities that are still valued in photography and video today. Its a testament to the good craftsmanship and character they possess - makes them timeless.

I owned a Pentacon Six with some Jena lenses. They are really good value for how cheap they can be! My only experience with Pentax was a later Pentax MX . I think I shot one roll through it before selling it. I was never inspired to pick it up over my other cameras.

8 hr of exposure is equivalent to one-time x ray.
      8hr x 365 days = 365 x rays of your body

I would say for photo Pancolar is lovely but for video shooting Canon lens are better. CZJ lenses contrast too high.
