Ive been to Myrtle Beach around twenty times as a kid with my family. I have so many memories of those times and these places. Its very sad to see them gone. Of the day time you'd spend time at the beach or pool, but at night, it was the strip and the pavilion. People walking and cars cruising, I'll never forget... best times of my life.
Myrtle Beach failed it's tourists by letting the Pavilion close. It was the day the Myrtle Beach tourism died overall. Shame on the City Council for not fighting for the greatest thing that ever happened to Myrtle Beach. SHAME.
No shame on sue bass who was the manager of the park and had zero amusement management experience. God only knows why we Chapin allowed her to take it down.
Loved going there in the 80's.Seeing Sugercreek perform at the Magic Attic which was upstairs in the Pavilion.We would sit at night and watch the traffic then play games at the arcade well into the morning since it was open all night.Great memories!
Then REINVENT the park. Hire a MARKETING team that CONNECTS with the community and tourist and THAT is how the park could have stayed. EVERYTHING changes and they needed to change up portions of the park and maybe tear down PART of it for a resort type development but not the whole thing. This losing money crap is a lame excuse. I can ASSURE you that if Mc Donalds quits with the marketing and occasionally reinventing themselves then they too will start losing money. Six Flags and Carowinds has been through many changes over the years in what they offer and how they market. All this place needed was a great marketing team and from what I saw at the park, a nice redevelopment in part of it and new marketing would have well positioned this park for success over the next quarter century.

There are big drug and gang problems on the strip where it was. Families stopped going because it wasn’t always safe. I was there in 2005 and there was a drive by shooting outside our hotel, which was right across from the park.
Nothing was better than when you rolled in to the beach and see the pavilion. The Magic Attic and then the arcade below. Great Memories! Shame it was torn down.
Haven't been to myrtle beach in 4 years! I'm 50 and have spent many summer days at the old Pavilion ! Just not the same but still one of my favorite beach's. I'll be back again someday (taking care of ealdery parents both with dementia) GODBLESS
I'm 35, and remember going to the Pavilion everytime we went to Myrtle (usually 4-5 times a year). So many memories, really sad to see it like that. Went through a lot of old pics after watching this. Love your vids.
Thanks for the support. I know a lot of people have fond memories of the Pavilion and it was a staple for many families, tourists and locals alike. It may not be physically there anymore but I don't think it will every be erased from Myrtle Beach's history with the stories and pictures that families are still sharing with each other.

wow.....that took some planning and editing takes a lot of time. really cool. still the biggest mistake in MB history. B & C refuses to take responsibility for this to this day and admit they had big development plans gone awry. Quit blaming it on owners Edgar .
I liked the video very much as one who went there in my childhood and continued going every year until recently , I think they spoiled the downtown , it was great to stay on the strip and walk down there after supper and enjoy so many things. or eve walk up from the beach and hear the organ , and how we would sit and watch the cars from the Pavillion as they pulled up to the stop Now gone like so many things. It was a wonderful family vacation in those days

Many high school and college memories of Myrtle Beach from growing up in Raleigh and going to the beach down there. Live in Wilmington now. You should do stuff like this from Charleston through Myrtle up to Wilmington!
The Pavilion should have never been taken down I can remember as a kid spending many many nights there and going to the Magic Attic. Once I got a little bit older I still will you hang out down at the Pavilion but I graduated from the Magic Attic to Mother Fletchers. The generations now just don't know what they missed.
Love your videos! They are so interesting. I enjoy seeing all the different areas of Myrtle Beach. I would love to see a video of the old Myrtle Square Mall (past/present).
In planning my trip I wondered why there was a massive vacant lot with a couple ziplines sitting in a prime location where, in any other resort beach town, there should be a huge amusement complex to service vacationers. Thanks for the info.

Went there in 2003 when I was 6. I only remember the haunted hotel, scared me to ride it. Closing and tearing down the pavilion was the start of Myrtle Beach’s decline. I stay at North Myrtle now since Myrtle Beach has become a hot spot of gang shootings. This recent memorial weekend I stayed at North Myrtle and every morning I woke up I found out there was a shooting at Myrtle Beach. No one even goes to the family kingdom anymore because they feel unsafe. Nice video though, love how the scene jumps back and forth between then and now
So the tourist area where all the amusement attractions are is unsafe now compared to years ago? From the Family Kingdom north to the former Pavilion site and a bit north where Ripley's Believe It or Not!, Ripley's Haunted Adventure, Ripley's Moving Theater, Gay Dolphin gift shop, and Nightmare Haunted House are?
That police stand looks intimidating. Even though I understand why it's there, it just makes me sad. That place holds so many wonderful memories for me and my family, including friends I introduced to the joys of MB. It seems just a shell of what it used to be. We still make our annual visit, but now we stay in Garden City.
Burroughs and Chapin got their wish and made this whole area a ghetto along the beach. They close the largest anchor there that fueled the other businesses. I can assure you this is what BC wanted so they can write it off in taxes and federal and slum lord grants so they can fund their half-ass successful other developments so the company doesnt lose money.
We were there for the last season and went to one of those time share things to get free passes to the Pavilion. When we kept declining the "offer", the lady just said, "Well, if you're staying in a motel, then B&C is still getting your money". I politely smiled and told her we were staying in a private beach house. I just thought how pompous of her to say that. Not a good selling technique.
I can’t stand Burroughs and Chaplin. I really hope in pray they go under soon so people that know the history of Myrtle Beach can step back in and restore MB to what made it great in the beginning before BC was the monopoly it is now that could care less about Myrtle Beach.
They should have just sold the park to someone who would keep it going instead of tearing it all down, including the massive roller coaster. They only relocated some of the rides to the new site.

It hurts to even see anything with the Pavilion still. All these years later. I forgot how massive it was. I went down last week and stopped by the "Pavilion" they have at Broadway on my way back home. Even though its nothing compared to it, I held onto the little card they give at the ticket booth. MB was never the same after that
oh the memories that brought back from my youth and teenage years.during the 60s. However, I believe the roller coaster I remember predated the ones you showed. It was called the Wild Mouse.
Oh the memories. I was a teenager in June 1983, making a very special effort to make sure I was at the Magic Attic every evening that week. Developed a big crush on a beautiful teenage girl who worked there. And I just went there each night hoping she might notice me. [I was way too shy to introduce myself]. The week ended and my heart just broke as I traveled back home 6 hours away. My heart healed the following weeks. But my memory remains, and my heart is broken again now that the Pavilion & Magic Attic is gone.
Great video! It's sad to see the pavilion was torn down just to have open plots of land with nothing really go on. Pavilion would make a lot more money than a zip line or volley ball court...
So many memories of Late 80's - Mid 90's there :( Lived there in 2000 and visited the last year in 2006 when it was closing, so sad. Planning to move back from CT to SC (Conway area) soon... but I see so much has changed in 10+ years, seeing the Hard Rock Cafe gone... what is going on down there!?!
Yeah, this is true... at least they are redeveloping and not leaving open spaces, like they did with the Pavilion... man that was a staple when I was a kid! Planning to move back down there in Conway/MB area -- just hoping it's not a mistake, and if I should look elsewhere in SC or my 2nd alternative was FL. I cannot afford to stay here in CT any longer... I'm on LTD and it's KILLING me to survive.
+Paul Palumbo Jr this area is weird at the moment. A lot of nice new developments popping up, commercial and residential, but at the same time the safety of the downtown area has been in question the past few months.
I like watching beach vides of people in ocean, shoppn, eating out, but yo vids are better more interesting you might say on another level. Keep it up and ill keep watchn . Hell you keep up the good work I will tell a few friends! Hahaha
Thanks for sharing. I recently moved to Myrtle Beach and to me its obvious with the blank spaces downtown that there are things missing. Something seems to be amiss here.
Businesses come and go everywhere but when you have high crime in a city, that will cause a run down, decrepit look with shuttered businesses and dirty streets. And sometimes Democrats are to blame for that.
I have vacationed in Myrtle Beach three times (1995, 1998 and 2005). It's interesting watching your videos to see how things have changed since I last been there. I loved going to The Pavilion. It's a shame it is no longer there. That area feels pretty empty now judging by the video.
it does and its a dissapointment you can go a little farther down and find the new ferris wheel and stuff where its a little more lively...but its still broken and just.....feels like something was ripped out
I agree Kyle Foster. I could not believe they tore it down. Big mistake in my opinion. Mother Fletchers did have the best T-shirts. Many good memories at the Pavilion.
I miss the Pavilion, and can't believe it's been gone more than 10 years. The Corkscrew was the first roller coaster I ever rode - rode it with my dad in the early 90s and swore I was going to come out of the seat - ha! The Hurricane was awesome - I rode it many times with friends when we'd be at the beach during high school. One thing that would be cool to mention one day would be that the trees on the lot where the zipline thing is are some of the same ones from the amusement park (they appear to be). I remember as a kid thinking what odd trees they were, and after they tore the rides down, liked at least seeing that. One of the things I miss most about the Pavilion, is as a kid, coming in on 501, you could see the rides first thing - as we came up the road there it was always so exciting to see the Pavilion amusement park and parking garage there. We went on the Friday night of our week long vacation every year - my parents would always tell us we had to be good all week so we would be able to go and we'd behave because we couldn't imagine missing that fun (ha - think they would've taken us either way, but was a really good motivation as a kid).
It's a shame it closed because that caused the loss of the Haunted Hotel, which I never rode, I never went to MB. It was called Haunted Inn before 1992 and had a different look. It was built in 1978 by the now defunct Funni-Frite of Ohio which went under in 2000, and it was renovated by Leonard Pickel in 1992 with props added by Sally Corp. of Jacksonville, FL a few years later. It was torn down in March 2007 and the ride cars wound up on ebay converted into trailers that you would hook up to your vehicle. The scary scenes inside probably wound up in the garbage, but there are pics from the inside on Leonard's site and at Laff in the dark, and a ride through vid on youtube. I'm trying to recreate the park as well as Family Kingdom, and part of the strip where there are a few other haunted attractions in a computer game called Planet Coaster. I have enough info to recreate the inside of Haunted Hotel.
Wow, I remember the pavilion, coaster, and how loud that block was, great times for me and my brothers, my dad would give us a 10$ a piece, and we would walk to that blocks, every other year until 86, graduated, and when didn't return to 2007.
I was unfortunately not able to get to experience the Pavilion because I lived so far away but I have heard a lot about it. I do live here now and I would have loved to been able to see it all.
I spent a lot of time in the early 1970's pumping coins into the pinball machines inside the Pavilion. I still remember my favorite was a pinball baseball game. Always thought the observation deck was neat too. The same thing happened in the 1980's at Virginia Beach when they demolished the historic Peppermint Beach Club. Some big names performed there when they were starting out in the music business.
in the 60s and 70s we used to go to the Pavilion arcade in the evening to play. They were one of the very few arcades that had a rare Atari 8 player tank battle game called Tank 8.
Then and now, hum what a great new concept . I suggested night life a while ago but I must say this concept blew me away ! Good work mr. Myrtle you da man . Keep up the good work sir!
July 15, 2022 7:30AM: Sitting here on a rainy morning on the front porch of Midtown Inn and Cottages (cottage #215) and found your video. This is my first Visit to Myrtle Beach. I felt something the spirit of special was around me. I had no idea this attraction once stood so close to where I am sitting now. Thank you for the then and now overlays, puts things into perspective and wowed my imagination. And Wow, the memories that were made at the Pavilion and Pavilion Amusement park. During my week long stay, directly behind our cottage, they are demolishing the Oasis Motel and Fountain-blue Motel (for any of those who had ever stayed there). Midtown Inn and Cottages tells me they are here to stay, even with new park space and the new Route 501 redirection plan. The history of the Gay Dolphin Gift Cove is a must see too. Cheers to the Myrtle Beach years past, present and future.
@@melindapedroni5056 We stayed at the Cottages, maintained by the crew of the Midtown inn, which had lots of character and charm. The Inn is well loved and well used by visitors. If you like Motor Court motels like I do, you will enjoy your stay,

I spent over a year and, half of my first 22 year's of life in Myrtle Beach. I wish I could show my boy the history of Myrtle to bad it is no longer there. Well we can still go eat at peaches..
ZIP LINES are ugly and repulsive. The Pavilion was the best thing that Myrtle Beach had to offer. I wish some filthy rich person would help bring it back just the way it was. Myrtle Beach will NEVER be the same.
Technically a new amusement park could be built there if the right person came along and they could get Sally Corp. to build two new dark rides there. Pavilion had the Haunted Hotel and Treasure Cave dark rides. Treasure Cave was relocated from Broadway at the Beach for some reason. Most of the other Pavilion rides were generic mass produced rides and some of them still operate at Broadway at the Beach in a new Pavilion Park. It's just that the big rides like Hurricane, Haunted Hotel, Treasure Cave, Log Flume, Antique Cars, and Rapids were all razed and are gone.
missed the pavilion by a year, we started vacationing in NMB in 2005, drove down to murrlles inlet for dinner and remember seeing it, and the coasters, then didn't go back to actual MB years later and learned they tore it all down in 2006, wish our kids would have gotten to exp it, learning the history over the years, is terrible, and heart breaking. so sad.
I have camped in Apache Campground for 52 years. The first time I ever rode a coaster was there. I HATE that it was destroyed for a zip line. I do like seeing the sky wheel in the background.
Removing the Pavilion was like removing the heart and memories of Myrtle Beach. Now everything is commercialized aimed at high profit margins. Sad. Thanks very much for the excellent vid. :)

In light of the recent county fair accident in Ohio, what information do you have on the Mind Scrambler accident at the Pavilion from 1983 and the Black Witch accident at Magic Harbor from 1984? I was only 9/10 years old at the time and don't remember much. Thanks
Y'all should check out the movie"SHAG". Great cast, Phoebe Cates, Scott Coffey, etc. Lots of pavilion action in the movie and filmed in Florence, Myrtle Beach and Georgetown. Pretty entertaining. Some great shag dancing scenes.
It absolutely sucks that the Pavilion is no longer there. But there are a lot of places in my hometown (Marion, NC) that have been torn down or closed that I wish were still around. I guess it's that way everywhere. The only thing that remains constant is change itself. Doesn't make it easier to accept, though.
I also hate that Chesterfield was torn down too. But on the positive side, MB still has Peaches Corner, the Bowery, the Gay Dolphin, Fun Plaza, Ripley's. Hopefully those places will be around for years to come.
The reason places get torn down is because sometimes they get a offer from a developer to sell. So, the end result is that a new business gets built and the old business goes to the landfill and is eventually forgotten and unknown by future generations. That happens in the northeast with a convenience store chain called Wawa. They will sometimes buy up a building to tear it down to build another one of their cookie cutter gas station stores which cause increased traffic. It's all about money.
The year they decided to charge an entrance fee was really when it died, I don't know who made that decision but I heard rumours that because the decision makers didn't want to "lose face" they could never reverse it.
I think that doomed the park. It was in 2000 right when the massive Hurricane roller coaster opened. That coaster only lasted seven years because of their decision to close the park. They razed the whole thing.

I liked the video very much as one who went there in my childhood and continued going every year until recently , I think they spoiled the downtown , it was great to stay on the strip and walk down there after supper and enjoy so many things. or eve walk up from the beach and hear the organ , and how we would sit and watch the cars from the Pavillion as they pulled up to the stop Now gone like so many things. It was a wonderful family vacation in those days

Many high school and college memories of Myrtle Beach from growing up in Raleigh and going to the beach down there. Live in Wilmington now. You should do stuff like this from Charleston through Myrtle up to Wilmington!

The Pavilion should have never been taken down I can remember as a kid spending many many nights there and going to the Magic Attic. Once I got a little bit older I still will you hang out down at the Pavilion but I graduated from the Magic Attic to Mother Fletchers. The generations now just don't know what they missed.

Good idea! What I remember most about Myrtle Square was the huge clock in the food court and Magic Cavern Arcade.

In planning my trip I wondered why there was a massive vacant lot with a couple ziplines sitting in a prime location where, in any other resort beach town, there should be a huge amusement complex to service vacationers. Thanks for the info.

Went there in 2003 when I was 6. I only remember the haunted hotel, scared me to ride it. Closing and tearing down the pavilion was the start of Myrtle Beach’s decline. I stay at North Myrtle now since Myrtle Beach has become a hot spot of gang shootings. This recent memorial weekend I stayed at North Myrtle and every morning I woke up I found out there was a shooting at Myrtle Beach. No one even goes to the family kingdom anymore because they feel unsafe. Nice video though, love how the scene jumps back and forth between then and now
So the tourist area where all the amusement attractions are is unsafe now compared to years ago? From the Family Kingdom north to the former Pavilion site and a bit north where Ripley's Believe It or Not!, Ripley's Haunted Adventure, Ripley's Moving Theater, Gay Dolphin gift shop, and Nightmare Haunted House are?

Great video! I spent many fun nights in Myrtle Beach during the late 1970's.
That police stand looks intimidating. Even though I understand why it's there, it just makes me sad. That place holds so many wonderful memories for me and my family, including friends I introduced to the joys of MB. It seems just a shell of what it used to be. We still make our annual visit, but now we stay in Garden City.
Burroughs and Chapin got their wish and made this whole area a ghetto along the beach. They close the largest anchor there that fueled the other businesses. I can assure you this is what BC wanted so they can write it off in taxes and federal
and slum lord grants so they can fund their half-ass successful other developments so the company doesnt lose money.
We were there for the last season and went to one of those time share things to get free passes to the Pavilion. When we kept declining the "offer", the lady just said, "Well, if you're staying in a motel, then B&C is still getting your money". I politely smiled and told her we were staying in a private beach house. I just thought how pompous of her to say that. Not a good selling technique.
I can’t stand Burroughs and Chaplin. I really hope in pray they go under soon so people that know the history of Myrtle Beach can step back in and restore MB to what made it great in the beginning before BC was the monopoly it is now that could care less about Myrtle Beach.
They should have just sold the park to someone who would keep it going instead of tearing it all down, including the massive roller coaster. They only relocated some of the rides to the new site.

It hurts to even see anything with the Pavilion still. All these years later. I forgot how massive it was. I went down last week and stopped by the "Pavilion" they have at Broadway on my way back home. Even though its nothing compared to it, I held onto the little card they give at the ticket booth. MB was never the same after that
That was the first cork screw coaster I ever rode! It was great! I went back over and over again. LOL
oh the memories that brought back from my youth and teenage years.during the 60s. However, I believe the roller coaster I remember predated the ones you showed. It was called the Wild Mouse.
Sad! Great times there and i was not really a ride type person. Just enjoyed the time there and the people. Remember the Magic Attic!
Too bad they tore that down. I was lovely place. I remember going there in the summer of 89 with father on a road trip.
Oh the memories. I was a teenager in June 1983, making a very special effort to make sure I was at the Magic Attic every evening that week. Developed a big crush on a beautiful teenage girl who worked there. And I just went there each night hoping she might notice me. [I was way too shy to introduce myself]. The week ended and my heart just broke as I traveled back home 6 hours away. My heart healed the following weeks. But my memory remains, and my heart is broken again now that the Pavilion & Magic Attic is gone.
Great video! It's sad to see the pavilion was torn down just to have open plots of land with nothing really go on. Pavilion would make a lot more money than a zip line or volley ball court...

Lived there in 2000 and visited the last year in 2006 when it was closing, so sad. Planning to move back from CT to SC (Conway area) soon... but I see so much has changed in 10+ years, seeing the Hard Rock Cafe gone... what is going on down there!?!

Planning to move back down there in Conway/MB area -- just hoping it's not a mistake, and if I should look elsewhere in SC or my 2nd alternative was FL. I cannot afford to stay here in CT any longer... I'm on LTD and it's KILLING me to survive.

Thanks for sharing. I recently moved to Myrtle Beach and to me its obvious with the blank spaces downtown that there are things missing. Something seems to be amiss here.
Businesses come and go everywhere but when you have high crime in a city, that will cause a run down, decrepit look with shuttered businesses and dirty streets. And sometimes Democrats are to blame for that.

I have vacationed in Myrtle Beach three times (1995, 1998 and 2005). It's interesting watching your videos to see how things have changed since I last been there. I loved going to The Pavilion. It's a shame it is no longer there. That area feels pretty empty now judging by the video.
it does and its a dissapointment you can go a little farther down and find the new ferris wheel and stuff where its a little more lively...but its still broken and just.....feels like something was ripped out
I agree Kyle Foster. I could not believe they tore it down. Big mistake in my opinion. Mother Fletchers did have the best T-shirts. Many good memories at the Pavilion.
They should just to rebuild the Myrtle Beach Pavilion and a RMC wooden rollercoaster

I miss the Pavilion, and can't believe it's been gone more than 10 years. The Corkscrew was the first roller coaster I ever rode - rode it with my dad in the early 90s and swore I was going to come out of the seat - ha! The Hurricane was awesome - I rode it many times with friends when we'd be at the beach during high school. One thing that would be cool to mention one day would be that the trees on the lot where the zipline thing is are some of the same ones from the amusement park (they appear to be). I remember as a kid thinking what odd trees they were, and after they tore the rides down, liked at least seeing that.
One of the things I miss most about the Pavilion, is as a kid, coming in on 501, you could see the rides first thing - as we came up the road there it was always so exciting to see the Pavilion amusement park and parking garage there. We went on the Friday night of our week long vacation every year - my parents would always tell us we had to be good all week so we would be able to go and we'd behave because we couldn't imagine missing that fun (ha - think they would've taken us either way, but was a really good motivation as a kid).
It's a shame it closed because that caused the loss of the Haunted Hotel, which I never rode, I never went to MB. It was called Haunted Inn before 1992 and had a different look. It was built in 1978 by the now defunct Funni-Frite of Ohio which went under in 2000, and it was renovated by Leonard Pickel in 1992 with props added by Sally Corp. of Jacksonville, FL a few years later. It was torn down in March 2007 and the ride cars wound up on ebay converted into trailers that you would hook up to your vehicle. The scary scenes inside probably wound up in the garbage, but there are pics from the inside on Leonard's site and at Laff in the dark, and a ride through vid on youtube. I'm trying to recreate the park as well as Family Kingdom, and part of the strip where there are a few other haunted attractions in a computer game called Planet Coaster. I have enough info to recreate the inside of Haunted Hotel.
Wow, I remember the pavilion, coaster, and how loud that block was, great times for me and my brothers, my dad would give us a 10$ a piece, and we would walk to that blocks, every other year until 86, graduated, and when didn't return to 2007.
I was unfortunately not able to get to experience the Pavilion because I lived so far away but I have heard a lot about it. I do live here now and I would have loved to been able to see it all.
I spent a lot of time in the early 1970's pumping coins into the pinball machines inside the Pavilion. I still remember my favorite was a pinball baseball game. Always thought the observation deck was neat too. The same thing happened in the 1980's at Virginia Beach when they demolished the historic Peppermint Beach Club. Some big names performed there when they were starting out in the music business.
Skiball was my favorite
in the 60s and 70s we used to go to the Pavilion arcade in the evening to play. They were one of the very few arcades that had a rare Atari 8 player tank battle game called Tank 8.

July 15, 2022 7:30AM: Sitting here on a rainy morning on the front porch of Midtown Inn and Cottages (cottage #215) and found your video. This is my first Visit to Myrtle Beach. I felt something the spirit of special was around me. I had no idea this attraction once stood so close to where I am sitting now. Thank you for the then and now overlays, puts things into perspective and wowed my imagination. And Wow, the memories that were made at the Pavilion and Pavilion Amusement park. During my week long stay, directly behind our cottage, they are demolishing the Oasis Motel and Fountain-blue Motel (for any of those who had ever stayed there). Midtown Inn and Cottages tells me they are here to stay, even with new park space and the new Route 501 redirection plan. The history of the Gay Dolphin Gift Cove is a must see too. Cheers to the Myrtle Beach years past, present and future.

I spent over a year and, half of my first 22 year's of life in Myrtle Beach. I wish I could show my boy the history of Myrtle to bad it is no longer there. Well we can still go eat at peaches..

ZIP LINES are ugly and repulsive. The Pavilion was the best thing that Myrtle Beach had to offer. I wish some filthy rich person would help bring it back just the way it was. Myrtle Beach will NEVER be the same.
Technically a new amusement park could be built there if the right person came along and they could get Sally Corp. to build two new dark rides there. Pavilion had the Haunted Hotel and Treasure Cave dark rides. Treasure Cave was relocated from Broadway at the Beach for some reason. Most of the other Pavilion rides were generic mass produced rides and some of them still operate at Broadway at the Beach in a new Pavilion Park. It's just that the big rides like Hurricane, Haunted Hotel, Treasure Cave, Log Flume, Antique Cars, and Rapids were all razed and are gone.

missed the pavilion by a year, we started vacationing in NMB in 2005, drove down to murrlles inlet for dinner and remember seeing it, and the coasters, then didn't go back to actual MB years later and learned they tore it all down in 2006, wish our kids would have gotten to exp it, learning the history over the years, is terrible, and heart breaking. so sad.
I have camped in Apache Campground for 52 years. The first time I ever rode a coaster was there. I HATE that it was destroyed for a zip line. I do like seeing the sky wheel in the background.
Removing the Pavilion was like removing the heart and memories of Myrtle Beach. Now everything is commercialized aimed at high profit margins. Sad. Thanks very much for the excellent vid. :)

In light of the recent county fair accident in Ohio, what information do you have on the Mind Scrambler accident at the Pavilion from 1983 and the Black Witch accident at Magic Harbor from 1984? I was only 9/10 years old at the time and don't remember much.

Y'all should check out the movie"SHAG". Great cast, Phoebe Cates, Scott Coffey, etc. Lots of pavilion action in the movie and filmed in Florence, Myrtle Beach and Georgetown. Pretty entertaining. Some great shag dancing scenes.
It absolutely sucks that the Pavilion is no longer there. But there are a lot of places in my hometown (Marion, NC) that have been torn down or closed that I wish were still around. I guess it's that way everywhere. The only thing that remains constant is change itself. Doesn't make it easier to accept, though.

I also hate that Chesterfield was torn down too. But on the positive side, MB still has Peaches Corner, the Bowery, the Gay Dolphin, Fun Plaza, Ripley's. Hopefully those places will be around for years to come.
The reason places get torn down is because sometimes they get a offer from a developer to sell. So, the end result is that a new business gets built and the old business goes to the landfill and is eventually forgotten and unknown by future generations. That happens in the northeast with a convenience store chain called Wawa. They will sometimes buy up a building to tear it down to build another one of their cookie cutter gas station stores which cause increased traffic. It's all about money.
The year they decided to charge an entrance fee was really when it died, I don't know who made that decision but I heard rumours that because the decision makers didn't want to "lose face" they could never reverse it.
I think that doomed the park. It was in 2000 right when the massive Hurricane roller coaster opened. That coaster only lasted seven years because of their decision to close the park. They razed the whole thing.
