I have to tell you Omar that you are the first Fujifilm camera reviewer ever who is fun but very competent in the same time. Keep going with some other Fuji cameras...
No need to hold down the ae-l button. Just press it and release, and it will lock until you hit it again or release the shutter. Also the single point focus can be combined with the metering so that it focuses and meters in the same point. If that setup is chosen, the q menu has a different bottom left option than what you show. Great video!
This was a good dive into metering, thanks! I had my X-T1 on multi for years and never changed it because I mostly did outdoor photography. However, I just got my X-T20 a month ago and took some indoor/outdoor photos using the 56mm portrait lens and totally got into problems with background light from the windows. I forced my way through it with a flash and exp comp-but the spot metering seems very useful for the situation when I want to use the natural light. I will say my one tip on the X-T20 is that when I turn the exp comp dial my fingers keep hitting the Fn button , so I now keep the exp comp dial on "C" and use the front dial to choose my exp comp. One issue that took me a while to figure out with my pancake lens was that when I press the front dial, it toggles between custom exp comp and aperture (or shutter speed depending on the "command dial setting").

I watched every video you made about x-t20! You answered all of my questions and second thoughts i had about the camera..went out, bought one and never looked back! Love it! Thank you and keep up the good work!
Omar, if you want to shoot Manual, just put the shutter dial on T position. You will get full control over you shutter speed from 1/8000s to 30sec. It works on the XE2/XT1/ XT2 and it should be the same on the XT20, it was part of one update done by Fuji.
Manual focus mode with the back button auto focus (!?) and the shutter dial in "T" to allow all 1/3 stop shutter speeds using the rear thumb dial is how I shoot 99% of the time. Yeah, I love the retro look and that old school shutter dial there, but using T and the thumb wheel is just to friggin' fast not to use. It's natural, like using the old aperture dials of my older cameras, mixed with the 1/3 stop shutter speed accuracy of the modern cameras. This method of control was a big help when I switched from Nikon, quickening the adjustment to Fuji's way of getting the job done.
I was out shooting today and was searching for the metering mode and couldn’t find it. Got home and thought, Omar will have the answer. Sure enough, my Face detection was on. Thanks Omar, your vids, new and old, are a treasure trove of entertainment and information!
I also use full manual, but set the real command dial to SS with the dedicated dial set to T. This way it's like a manual DSLR and you can adjust in 1/3 increments
Thanks Omar, I have been following for quite a while, this will be my first comment. I just upgraded to the X T3 from the X T20, and suddenly metering became a whole lot more important for some reason. This has clarified a few things for me that I just wasn't understanding before. As for "you are smarter than your camera", well I think that may be debatable!
Hi Omar, Thanks for all of your tutorials about XT20. You are the reason i bought this camera. I got Silver with 18-55 and 56mm lense. Results are just amazing. I got compliments about how the camera looks. Looks beasty with 56mm. I am proud of this purchase. Thanks mate.
Great video. I couldn't figure out why spot metering wasn't working on my X-T2, then I watched this video, and heard "make sure face detect is turned off." Very helpful!
Hi, this is something that I just recently found out too after owning the X-T20 for a month. If you want to quickly set the functions for your functions buttons, you can do so by pressing the display back button until the menu comes out. It's way quicker to go into the menu and to the wrench to adjust your functions buttons. Hope this helps.
Thank you, great description of metering. I just got my 1st Fugifilm camera, x t30, and with this down time we have learning all I can. Your videos and informitive and fun!
For the fine grained shutter speeds, you can use the command dial on many of the Fujis. Set your shutter dial to T... then fine-grain shutter speed adjustments are made with the rear command dial, and ISO on the front dial. I manage aperture with my left hand on the front ring. Never have to leave the EVF.
Very nice! A couple of things, I don't have a Fuji lens at the moment, I shoot with all manual lenses, but in any metering mode, multi, center weighted, ETC, how the camera meters would be relative to where the focus point is located, no? Meaning, if you move that focus point to the far left of the screen towards a blown out window, it would meter differently than if it were at the opposite side of the screen? Lastly, you definitely have compensation in MF mode, just set your top dails to "T" on the shutter, and "C" on the compensation, then go into the Setup-button dial setting-command dial setting, and set that to the bottom hit - SSF. Now pressing in on the front command dial will select shutter speed, press in again, now you control the compensation!
wow, really helpful, you can talk about this stuff but walking through the settings on the camera was what helped, had the xpro2 for over 2 yrs just learning this thanks
I know this video has already 3 years now, but I just got a xt20. First of all I love your videos! Second if you slightly press on the shutter button your exposure also gets locket in apperture priority mode. Cheers Edit: this because I have "AE/AF lock mode" set to "P", I think
Hi Omar, I always find your videos very useful, especially since I moved from Canon to Fuji system. Also I love your style. Thanks a lot for your videos.
I bought my first ever camera, an Xt2, very happy with it. When i half click the shot button it will automatically focus where i point and will lock the auto exposure.. i find it handy buy maybe only bc im a begginer
Brilliant video, Omar! I had come to the same conclusion as you : use aperture priority and exposure compensation. But now I understand all the other modes as well !
I added a thumb grip to the xt20 and it gets your thumb and palm off the controls when you need it to be so, it works great It was expensive (lensbaby) but recommended It attaches to the camera in the hot shoe
Another good video... i will know this camera inside out by the time i get mine. Really useful, my camera has. Been on back order now for 4 weeks..... ugh!
Have used the XT10… before I left it in a cab. Personally I do not like fiddling with top dials, ergonomically I have to take my hand off the camera. Back or front dials are the way to go for me. I like multi too, exceptions of course but you have back button lock to overcome that or use the exposure compensation dial. Quite honestly I will use exposure bracketing or auto ISO ( 125-800) in the A, P or S modes.
Hi Omar I just discovered the C position on the exposure compensation dial. I'm sure you covered it somewhere but it's so much easier to adjust exposure via the front rocker switch as my finger is automatically there.
Another godsend Omar video. It would have taken me anywhere between 20min and three hours to figure out that face detection needs to be off in oder to set the metering mode. Argh. Thanks!!
Holy crap. This was super helpful how you actually walked through examples of each mode. I’m going to practice these this week on my XT2. Also, I just subscribed to your channel. 🤙🏽
hi omar. nice video as always, very informative! concerning manual mode and the full stop problem: you could set your shutter dial to T mode and then you can set any shutter speed you like in smaller increments via the rear dial without fiddeling with the top dial. hope that helps :)
Hi Omar, I have recently found your channel as I purchased an XT-2 last week. I have migrated from Nikon DLSR. Ugh my back is better already... Can you or anyone explain the DR (dynamic range) option. Does it apply it it just to the JPeg and is it best set to auto or changed as fit by the photographer. Perhaps you would have time to do a little video. Thanks Omar you brighten up my day when I watch your video's.
Omar bro i just buy this camera pretty good.. But batteries life i feel less.. Learning all details buy watching your videos... Thank you for making so informative videos...
so you are prefer using matrix + A priority with exp compensation, is it right ? Btw for shutter speed you can change it into T, and it will give you flexible shutter speed from 4000 to 30 sec by using front command dial (in X-T1).
the one thing ive struggled a little with on the fujis is exposure and if its a landscape shot during the day ive found it hard to get the sky not blown out or the foreground to dark, how do i get round that omar?
I find my xt3's metering is not "pretty good" in any mode. While shooting raw, in anything but spot metering, I have to compensate by +1 1/3 to 2 stops to get an exposure that's not under exposed. I don't know if this is "normal" or not.
Hi, thanks for your videos. I started using the multi Fotometria, but I realized that the whites were very uploaded although I have parameter Htone -1. So I have changed to centered.
Yes, I use it for that reason too. I've been shooting for years in multi and have had blown out skies but recently discovered the benefit of using average in this situation.
This was so helpful! Just purchased my xt3 (converted from Nikon d7100) and I only use my camera in manual and I was a bit confused _ I am curious about one thing! When you zoom in, in manual mode, and the aperture changes automatically, why does that happen?!
another awesome tutorial mate ! Can I ask you something. I dont know why only in "shutter" priority mode I dont get the live preview of how the sensor is going to record the image ? I just cant seeexactly what the lens is seeing. Please help me. Thanks
great video as the others. little question: does anyone know how to see the image preview in windows folder explorer? it looks like i'm missing a codec..
Hi Omar, I just bought XT-20 and your videos have been very helpful. Just few quick question - Does AE lock work in all the modes? Also I don't see much of a change when I use Exposure Compensation in Shutter priority compared to Auto mode. any reason? Any recommendation on where I can find examples showing AE lock and exposure compensation in all different modes. If its not too much to ask may be you can make a video. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Thanks for your videos, very E D U C A T I O N A L 😉 On another note, and that is if using flash, I guess since the metering is unavailable when using Face detect, then...I just answered my question. Great thanks again, byyyeeeee
Quick question what are the video specs when recording to the sd card? I know when recording externally through hdmi the specs are 4:2:2 8 bit, but I’m having trouble finding what they are to the sd card.
can you get the spot point to move with the focus point cause not every composition is dead centre...? Or do you have to spot then AE-L and then focus?
Hi Omar, love your videos. I have a question. Sometimes when my dial is on T, so I can chose my shutterspeed with my wheel in the back, all of a sudden I can control my exposure compensation. You know how this comes? Usually you can't if you're not on aperture priority.
Nice video thank you. why on my lcd I cant see the focus point and all the others info about the scene but i need to prees the relase button half way and then everything disapears again? Please help!!
Great video, love all your vids man. I am new to the x-t20 and photography on it's own and it's great hearing all the tips. I got a question tho. Why would you in normal day situation choose a slower shutter speed over a faster one(Bearing in mind you don't want any crazy stuff but just a normal photo)? Isn't the faster one always sharper? Thanks in advance,
Great job & well done, Omar. btw i am using the XT3 camera this week, it's a good camera, just wonder if i wanna shoot video, can we still change the exposure compensation? How come i can't change it at all? Please help.
I think you're too quick to dismiss the 'average' setting. I just bought an X-T10 second hand and when it arrived the metering was set to multi. I took some indoor shots and some outside shots of flowers, and they were all fine. But then I took a shot outside that included some sky. Not only was the sky blown out but the rest of the photo had this sort of misty haze over it. Then I changed the metering to average and all the problems disappeared; my sky was blue with lots of white fluffy clouds and the misty haze was gone. I then tried the same thing with my X-T3 with the same result. So the 'average' meter setting might have limited uses but it certainly has uses.
Likes (vs. dislikes) % for this video: 100%
I have to tell you Omar that you are the first Fujifilm camera reviewer ever who is fun but very competent in the same time. Keep going with some other Fuji cameras...
Goran Pavletic thanks so much!!
Couldn't agree more!
You can put the shutter dial in "T" and change them by 1/3 via dials. I measure exposure in manual mode
No need to hold down the ae-l button. Just press it and release, and it will lock until you hit it again or release the shutter. Also the single point focus can be combined with the metering so that it focuses and meters in the same point. Thanks for commenting on a cringe classic lol.

Same, aperture priority an eV compensation. If anything requires more than two stops can lock or use manual. I don't use spot much though.
manual mode with auto iso is good in T mode with shutter speed from 1/32000s to 30sec! :D (XT-1)
Very nice! A couple of things, I don't have a Fuji lens at the moment, I shoot with all manual lenses, but in any metering mode, multi, center weighted, ETC, how the camera meters would be relative to where the focus point is located, no? Thank you sir! Very new to photography. You're saving photography dreams out here.
Just bought one yesterday. These video's have been very helpful. Thank you.

Matthew Fisher you're going to be a Master after that unboxing lol!
Great review / tutorial - love your vids, best wishes from Germany!

As always i superb video, could not agree more. Always check your histogram and either bracket or use exp comp
how do you use AE-L with AF-ON button simultaneously?
Really useful. Thanks !
I do not have my face detection on but my photometry is still grayed? What else could be the problem I wonder.
Thanks very much, this video helped me a lot.
Great video Omar
How can I compensate for yellow pictures because of indoor lighting.
I want a metering mode that measures the lights and the darks and adjusts according to the possible dynamic range - and I have patented it :P
the one thing ive struggled a little with on the fujis is exposure and if its a landscape shot during the day ive found it hard to get the sky not blown out or the foreground to dark, how do i get round that omar?
Does metering mode work when you’re in full manual mode? I hear it does, I’m not sure
Thanks for the video! Very useful!
Omar you're the best!!!

Bonus points for The Matrix scenes.

David Diaz Garcia That’s great!!
Average is great for outside portraits to not blow out the sky then in post bring up shadows
Yes, I use it for that reason too. I've been shooting for years in multi and have had blown out skies but recently discovered the benefit of using average in this situation.
How can we lock the focus point to in the very middle of our view and make it so it never moves again in single point?
great and informative videos - keep it up
Thank you well explained
This was so helpful! Just purchased my xt3 (converted from Nikon d7100) and I only use my camera in manual and I was a bit confused _ I am curious about one thing! When you zoom in, in manual mode, and the aperture changes automatically, why does that happen?!
Any tutorials on free lensing with a fuji xt3?
Tremendo video. Aplicable para cualquier cámara. Gracias.

another awesome tutorial mate ! Can I ask you something. I dont know why only in "shutter" priority mode I dont get the live preview of how the sensor is going to record the image ? I just cant seeexactly what the lens is seeing. Please help me. Thanks

Nice video thank you. why on my lcd I cant see the focus point and all the others info about the scene but i need to prees the relase button half way and then everything disapears again?
Please help!!
Cubalibre sorry for the late reply. Just click your Display/Back button a few times.
does photometry works on manual lenses like meike 35mm?
Great video, love all your vids man. I am new to the x-t20 and photography on it's own and it's great hearing all the tips. I got a question tho. Why would you in normal day situation choose a slower shutter speed over a faster one(Bearing in mind you don't want any crazy stuff but just a normal photo)? Isn't the faster one always sharper? Thanks in advance,
Fast shutter is great when its bright enough. Sometimes you don't have enough light so you have to go with a slower shutter or raise your ISO.
What is your opinion on soft release buttons?
Omar Does The XT-20 take burst frames with the wifi app? My xt-1 does not.
Great job & well done, Omar. btw i am using the XT3 camera this week, it's a good camera, just wonder if i wanna shoot video, can we still change the exposure compensation? How come i can't change it at all? Please help.
Fred Miu EC only works in a semi auto mode. Set the shutter to 1/50 then it will work.
@@ogonzilla
thanks Omar, unfortunately still doesn't work :( , thanks anyway.
I think you're too quick to dismiss the 'average' setting. I just bought an X-T10 second hand and when it arrived the metering was set to multi. hi Omar what is that tool you use ,that you put on your back screen on your 5d that makes it like a mirror less camera
