She grew up on the music but she was also preparing her fans for her crossover album... her father confirmed that in an interview shortly after her movie debuted.

She chose to do the medley as a teaser for an english album that she was working on. Sadly she passed away before the album was finished recording. The album is dreaming of you.

No she actually chose these songs one because she loved them and also to give her fans a taste of her voice in English since her English album would’ve been released later that year.
She still is the Queen of Tejano Music so she came in like the Queen that she was and still is.

While watching this whole concert, you have to remind yourself that she performed all this while dancing. Dancing from the heart, which is why she doesnt even look tired and loves performing it.

Ive been following her since I was 4 and Im in my 30s now... Ive seen all these Pop stars come and go, but Ive always said Selena was the COMPLETE package. She could sing anything and her vocal capabilities were ON POINT! Our ears and hearts were robbed on what kinda of music and performances we missed out on! A beautiful soul that gave us PURE raw talent! Great reactions! She was/is a MUSIC ICON in the making!!!

She was a legend a very true one at that completely. Selena was getting ready to sing in English she had already recorded a few songs for their English album when she passed. I'm guessing she was getting her fans ready for this transition so they played this medley. She was very versatile. They rocked that night💯💖🎉💖💯💓😀🎊👍😆😊💖💓💘

This has to be one death that I will never get over. She had so much talent and she had so much going for her. I love Selena.
She always did covers in her shows. She always sang English songs weaved into her repertoire. Opening the show with the Disco Medley was one of those reasons. She just wanted to showcase the versatility of the band. There is a before the show interview from ONDA MAX where she says exactly this. look it up so you can see it for yourself.

From what I remember hearing on her 20th Anniversary release of this concert. Her brother, I believe, said that they just wanted to add something different to surprise her fans at the concert and, of course, since she was already working on her English album it only made sense to do some of her favorite disco songs. It was just a hint of what was to come and to let everyone know she was ready. *my opinion
I love how you mention a lot about her vocals. I remember from an interview with Mr. Quintanilla and Suzette; her sister, she had never had any singing lessons or a voice coach; that is her natural given talent you are listening to.
She loved disco songs She loved Donna Summer. She was the MJ to Chicanos her father trained her since little and family is the band . This was her last concert.
She was trying to get into the English singing market and was introducing that. Once she passed, her English album was released. She wanted to sing in English so hard ❤ So much to come for her. I could only imagine what she would have done. Fashion and singing career. She had hair salon, fashion was her other passion, and her outfits made by her were amazing ❤😢. We miss her.

Lilith fair, Coachella..She may have been the one to get thru to Chester n he may still be here. She mayve Mixed it up with Evanescence..Ptx..or Dolly...I'd died to see Her work with Leona Lewis..

She always included English songs at her concerts, she did Madonna, Michael Jackson, Debbie Gibson... etc covers, she decided to include an English medley to let people know she was ready for the crossover. And she was, she really was. This was the first time performing this Medley and rumors about a second performance on her last concert March 19th, 1995. But that’s just a rumor.
it was confirmed already she did perform the disco medley more than one time. abraham said it. i don’t think there are any videos of that performance though. apparently she also performed a medley of her 80s songs at her last concert, someone who was there said she performed some songs she did as a little kid.

It’s hard to tell, but that stage was rotating. Usually when an artist performs in a large stadium they’ll set the stage up at one end, close that end and perform to the other half. If I remember correctly, with the rotating stage they were able to fill the whole stadium instead, they just couldn’t find enough space to fit more people in.
