This is truly one of my favorite songs of all time. Even my husband who doesn't listen to kpop regularly knows IU and Good Day specifically lol Our Queen KILLS.
With IU, it'll always be hard to choose between her live singing and MVs. You'd want to watch her MVs, one because they are so much fun as you said so, and two because it's such a trip looking for and realizing all the hidden meanings she has put in there. As they have said, nothing in her MVs are accidental, everything is intentional. But then you won't want to miss her lives either because of a number of reasons - her stage presence, the fresh arrangements they do and most importantly, her live singing is just phenomenal. So what do we do? Just watch everything, it's worth our time.
indeed! sometimes it gets a little tricky when viewers want both, sometimes it can be hard trying to figure out which will hit the larger audience and what lives are available
This is the song that trapped me as the kpop world became fascinated by IU. This took place early in IU's career that elevated her to stratosphere in Kpop. She hadn't yet gained control over the creative process of her songs. Only for the record, Kim Eana was credited with the lyrics and Lee Min-soo was the composer for this song.
This song was written by lyricist-collaborator Kim Eana. She's had a hand in a laundry list of hit songs, including the song 'O (circle)' by Onew just ten months ago. Its worth listening to.
It will be a while until we are gonna hear this one live again. She retired this gem on second day of the Golden Hour Concert. Quite a move, she said it will not be in a Setlist from now on. She did not rule out an encore though ;-)
Just for the record Kim Edana is the lyricist of this song. IU is very close to her and she played an important role in IU's early career. V of BTS also has worked closely with Kim and V and IU became friends largely because of their relationship with Edana.
"Is there anything she can't do?" Nah I am not convinced there is 😊 I get wanting to do lives but there are so many cool music videos (for K-pop in general)! And also for so many songs I feel the atmosphere is slightly different for studio versions but then for some I'm like "no this is completely fine to just hear live for the first time" (like "My Sea", not that the studio version of that isn't also an experience). Dilemmas, I guess 😅 I think this is now the youngest you've seen IU aside from debut haha, this was when she was about 18, so you skipped the whole super cutesy teen era, but maybe that's something for another time 😅 I mean this is also still cute in a slightly different way, but you'll get what I mean if you ever watch anything from before this, like "Boo", "Marshmallow", or one of my personal favs from the kid era, "You Know (rock ver.)" (also known as "Well... (rock ver.)" or "Hey (rock ver.)" because they couldn't decide on how to translate the title lol)
yeah, I was about to say she looks pretty young here doesnt she? I think we could cover her cutesy stage! thats actually one thing I agree with, I think sometimes its nice to see lives and perform it and stuff but sometimes I do like a good MV and she was the hardest to deal with on that, like her MVs are probably the best I have seen so sometimes I would prefer live
@@Killdeer25 Not all songs have MVs anyway, so you can always watch lives for those regardless (even though for some songs I still think a studio version sounds a bit different); but for some songs like The Visitor or My Sea, those don't have MVs and the live versions you watched were great, and those have a more classic, straightforward composition especially when it comes to the vocal line; while for some others like Jam Jam the live performance was definitely good as well but because it's a more experimental song I feel like it had a bigger difference from the studio version. Oh well! 😊
Hahaha. Oppas never change, even IU and a parrot and her own personal soundtrack musician following her around doesn't impress him. I am old and from another country but it was the same when I was a teenager. 😂
@@Killdeer25 It's that frustration of having a crush on someone older who doesn't even know you exist or worse, they do but they think you're just a kid. Me crushing on my best friend's older brother in jr high and an upperclassman in sr high. The tragedy. 😂 I don't even remember their names now.
An IU fun fact, the guy playing the instruments reprised his role a decade later as the train conductor on Lilac
oh I knew that he looked familiar!

Yess! My dad is into IU now too, I caught him listening to Jam Jam the other day lol

Oh very nice! Great writing on this one! I could see this being the being the one that would do it!
My first IU’s song that make me trap in her world till now ❤
For real! I could see that

Haha yeah I remember she said it felt weird for her singing "oppa I like you" because at her age "there aren't many oppas (older boys) anymore" 😂
LOL! she can still sing Oppa to me still haha
not too many people retire music, thats interesting.

😅😅😅 I guess that makes sense, I think I still have some crushes I had when I was younger

IU is signed with Casablanca Records?
maybe at the time
@@Killdeer25 . Sorry, dude, I was joking. Back in the day, Casablanca was THE label for disco acts......and KISS.
