I really appreciate you making this video. A lot of videos out there don't show the technicality of it all. Even though it didn't work out I learned a lot.
Id actually say the only problem is you aren't using ENOUGH activator, the film should borderline dissappear on the surface, you wanna saturate it fairly well. That or the film was just bad quality. Great video, its nice to see genuine diy attempts including the mistakes.
Its not the amount of activator it's the film wrong side in. It's not always the glossy part. See which one sticks and that's the side to go in the water
How to hydro dip after you have spray painted item!! 1. ruff up what you are dipping with fine sand paper or a scratch pad 2. Degrease item while using gloves (hands have natural oils on) 3. Water between 28 to 33 degrees (different films react best to different temps) 4. Size up film about 10-15mm extra all round 5. If you are tapping it cut angled lines down the tape and just onto the film as you want the film to expand a lil while it sucks up the water aja hydrates 6. Its sticky side down mot glossy sides dien as all films are different lock thumb and index finger grab corners whatever side sticks that side goes in the water 7. Fold fim from bottom right corner to half way between top let and right corner GENTLE make a crease as this will make it easier to put in water 8.place film in water gently opening corners out so it sots flush on water start timer for one min as timer is counting make sure I have no air bubbles if you do gently blow then out through the sides 9.shake activator and evenly about 30cm from film spray in a line working you way down the film in sections from left to right then down a bit from right to left and so on till all the film has been activated grab tour toch make sure that the film is now glossy if in a certain place it Is bot dont worry just add a lil activator too it 10. Time to dip! Grab you item with gloves on! And decide what the easiest and best way to dip it is once you have decided slowly dip the item at an angle with the last bit acting like a collapsing building 11. Once item is dipped and submerged swish it about under the water to get excess off then pull it out of water 12. Check for imperfections if you are not satisfied dint discourage just run the item under some hot water and rub the film off with some soapy water then dry it with gloves on and try again as we all make mistakes 13. If you are happy with the results with warm water gentle very very very gentle rinse off the glue off the item so its left with no slime on 14. Best to leave item 24hrs to air dry biy if you cant wait with a clean microfiber cloth give the dipped item a dry. 15. Once item has dried give item 3 coats of laquier, make sure it's not heavy coats as it will run, let it dry for 15 mins between coats. 16. Enjoy you new dipped item and showing it off to friends and family 🙂
Don't box it up like that with tape, it doesn't allow for the film to expand laterally so it starts to bunch down towards the bottom of the vessel where there is no barrier.
Good try but the basocs are water to be warm at 80-90 F,leave the fil;m in for 60 secs and then spray activator, the film should become glassy look ... and then dip at an angle slowly ..but I guess you did try what you knew and hopefully soon a better and great dip in carbon fiber !!!!
Hi I have just watched this video and can I say well done for keeping going but you could have bought the parts for less money in the end cant fault ya really I honestly haven't laughed sooooooo much in years I was actually crying laughing again tho you have to appreciate the effort well done mate
It's alot harder then everyone makes it look ay, have tried my xbox many of time only got 2 bits done properly but I can never get the face to work, definitely something u need patience for
Just a few tips: Make sure your water is warm (Not too hot, not too cold) Leave the film, shiny side down in the water for a minute minimum or until you start seeing creases all over it Make sure you blow gently the air bubbles/Creases off to the sides Only use a few light passes of the activator until the wrap looks like water is soaking it Always scuff up the part you want to dip with sand paper & make sure the part is degreased Before you wash the top film off, leave it for a minimum off 2 minutes for the paint to adhere better to the part Leave it at least 30 minutes after to dry and clear coat
I haven't done much hydro dipping BUT, what it seems to me is that you are using WAY too much activator. I just do one very quick pass. I also use "warmish" water, between 30 to 35ºC I'd say and I also use primer. Although a beginner, this does seem to do the trick. little activator and water temp "right"
90° water leave tape off make sure your putting the right side down wet your index finger and thumb squeeze on corner side the sticks to fingers goes down 60 seconds on water you have 10 twenty seconds to dip you item film will start separating dip before that happens
@@builditwithrob just sayin I have never even attempted a hydro dip but I've watched every video I can find. That's how I found you. Not trying to be a dick just thought an outside perspective might make you want to try again.
Old video but I can tell you what you are doing wrong You need to wet a finger and see witch part sticks to your finger and that side gown in the water you made that mistake there . Also the film wasn’t very good and to little activator
I really appreciate how you left all the faults in!! Good man.. definitely saves me making those mistakes 😅 wish me luck

I was going to give it a whirl myself but this video put me right off, cheers saved me some dough
love this vid this was exactly what I was looking for to see mistakes and how to resolved. Amazing vid. practice makes perfect. keep it up.

Hey man. Quick question. Where do I buy the activator from? I am buying the film from Amazon but I cannot find the activator. Thanks
Don't box it up like that with tape, it doesn't allow for the film to expand laterally so it starts to bunch down towards the bottom of the vessel where there is no barrier.
Good advice thank you
Glossy side CAN be up... (Sticky side needs to be in the water). From what you showed here, definitely activating the wrong side.

Great stuff Rob. Thanks for sharing the mistakes. Very interesting and insightful too. 👍 ....🇬🇧

One of the best bikes I’ve seen, top work
No idea!
Cool cat mate I’d of been flipping out lol

I won’t ever get that tome back. Lol
THANK YOU FOR MAKING MISTAKES CUS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ME
Flip the paper ...and use hot water
Cheers 👍
Did you spray parts with base coat paint first? If not try a black base of paint let dry then try dipping
Hello Matt, I didn’t paint parts first maybe that’s the trick I will give that a go thanks for the advice appreciate it 👍
@@builditwithrob no problem man! The film has to have a base of paint to adhere to. Should solve the issues u are having.

another 15 mins of my life i’m not getting back
The tape around the film isn't needed so you know. It prevents it from stretching when soaking
Nice video bro...😀
I’m sure you can do it next time, keep trying 👌
Thanks I was thinking about dipping a fairing I've got, it looks harder than I first thought and pretty frustrating.
It sure is harder then thought
The around the ends is what making its mess up
Lmao.. I thought he was finally gonna get it!
Films upside down by looks of it mate also use a plastic primer and ruffing up before 👍
Thanks for the advice appreciate it
don't use tape, especially all around, the film needs to expand
Ha ha brilliant hope you know what you did wrong now lol. Looks easy lol
Omg 😂 why did I watch this 😅 why would you post this 😂 why! 😢
You should rename the video, what not to do when hydrodipping
Did you manage to get it to work?
I didn’t try. Opted to paint the parts instead
I think your film is upside down. Test with your wet finger first to know where sticky side
Thank you pal
HI Rob, can motorcycles front suspension (the aluminium exposed part) be hydrodipped ?
Hello friend
I believe so yes
The activator then go RIGHT IN!!
Did you find out why it did not work
I did not guessing old material
Carbonized look on a black part you'll never see it try painting it white
Thanks for the advice
Try putting less tape
You need to Prime it first
One…. Cheap film.
Two…. You need to paint the parts silver base to show the design better.
Thank you bud
@@builditwithrob enjoyed the video. Showed people sometimes it takes a second go or third try to get it down. Don’t give up💪🏽
Brother, can it be done in motorcycle engine cover?
Yea sure can bud, make sure to clean item first and paint in black primer
Ok, thank you brother ♥️
the film has to be able to expand and contract as it soaks up the water
Thanks bud
@@builditwithrob just sayin I have never even attempted a hydro dip but I've watched every video I can find. That's how I found you. Not trying to be a dick just thought an outside perspective might make you want to try again.
@@builditwithrob I'm sure you've already seen it but search CZcams for liquid concepts LLC
they fecking it up
Send your parts to us!!!
Mate
your not supposed to tap all four sides and i think you are using too much activator
It looks like the film is stale to me. If its been previously exposed to even small amounts of humidity it won't want to work
Thank you Paul, that makes sense cheers
Glossy up
Turn it around and paint the item not black
Thanks bud
Sticky side down!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 attempt 8001
Possibly wrong side down to water, wrong water temp and too quickly dipped and... film could be cheap too.
Old video but I can tell you what you are doing wrong
You need to wet a finger and see witch part sticks to your finger and that side gown in the water you made that mistake there .
Also the film wasn’t very good and to little activator
Now make another video dipping the film in the correct way 🙄 no way you wasted all that material just doing the same thing over and over.. 🤐
😂😂
Omg this sooo sooooo bad
Don't use tape what a waste of time
Your dipping the wrong side that’s why!
stop talking
Mn no disrespect but stick to your dy job mate lol
