  • PLANS for a giant new hotel and leisure complex in a picturesque seaside town have been blasted by residents who claim it will block their views and throw their beach into near permanent darkness.
Incensed locals in Brixham, Devon compared plans for a multi-coloured 44-bed hotel, spa and beach-side bistro to the fictional village setting of children’s TV show Balamory.
Developers want to demolish an existing bistro and use a beachside public car park to build the five-storey development directly facing the Breakwater Beach.
But locals claim if the building goes ahead it will cast a shadow over the Blue Flag beach for 80 per cent of the day and make it harder for older and disabled residents to enjoy the beach.

There has recently been a petition with over 2 thousand signatures from local residents against this potential development submitted to parliament by MP Anthony Magnall.

..If there's a car park near the beach leave it alone for cars to park this man is giving them nothing he's robbing them of something they already have ..

Glad I don't live there. Since when is carparking not an amenity? No car park no trade or custom. Where will hotel customers park? On a carpark that denighs the locals !!

just park outside the architects house, you need a cark part for small kids and the elderly, or ask him if he wants his garden in the shade ?

The car park is an amenity, what is he on about. And this beach is the only one accessible to everyone. It's a beautiful sunny beach, no way should the sun be blocked out. The architect has no idea what he's talking about 🤬

Oh look! There's a space we can try and take away from the local community!
Let's see what's the biggest and ugliest thing we can squeeze in there....
Side note - there's a huge gorgeous old building in some of these shots 😍. Resting on the hillside. Probably a hotel now I'd imagine?

i actually like the design but the location is terrible. keep the beach as is, or better yet, get rid of the other encroaching structures and return that cove to a more natural state. cant make more beaches
