Yes, overproduction is indeed a problem. However, I don't think it would be too hard to produce only as much as we really need and restock more often. Might be connected with slightly higher prices and sometimes you want to buy will be sold-out. I can live with that.

I'm not going to lie, I'm one of those people who thinks that alcohol SHOULD be illegal. It's just not practical. People aren't going to stop drinking because it's illegal. Not when we've had it be legal for so long. The point is that just because you ban something doesn't mean it's going to solve the problem. Besides, all those things ARE your responsibility. Do you want the government to tuck you in at night too?

Nice video but the whole thing makes no sense. I get that places like Subway, White Castle or whatever are restaurants and are regulated by the city so they are covered by the sugary drinks ban. 7-Eleven is a convenience store much like a Kwik Trip, Circle-K or a Super America. They all sell fast food but they are not restaurants and therefore are not covered by the ban. Am I understanding this correct?

I agree. It's very tempting to eat unhealthy.
I do like McDonalds though ...sometimes. I know it's bad for me and I know they do not really care about my health.
If we were to ban junk/fast food, I think it'd miss it... until better alternatives arise.
The food industry has clever people. If they had to produce healthy food, they would come up with ways to do so.
Banning junk food might force them to make this step. It sucks, but at some point we have to change something.

  • @jeanswithflower

I saw that episode. Yes, moderation is a good point. It would be great if everybody could enjoy things in moderation. The thing is, they just can't. Most of us are under a lot of stress already. No time, no energy left.
Some people manage to do drugs in moderation. Most people can't.
Banning stuff is never the perfect solution for everybody. It usually means making sacrifices for the good of all.
The question is: Are you willing to sacrifice something for others to become healthier?

Soda is terrible for you, but so are plenty of other foods. This won't stop people who consciously want to consume more than 16 oz. of soda, so the only people it will help are those who aren't informed or don't care enough to not drink 100 oz of sugar water in one sitting. So let's spend the money informing people about why they should care about nutrition, and how to choose appropriate portions and nutritious foods. Then, if an informed person still wants to eat horribly, LET THEM!

Tbh I kinda agree with this ban. Sure, people will still be able to drink however the much sugary drinks they want. The can order 2 drinks or go to a place not effected by the ban, or a convenience store. But, the problem with huge drinking cups and why I feel it's a good idea to ban them is that those huge cups make it seem normal to drink that much sugary drinks. If there's such a cup size, surely many people are drinking it, and surely it's ok? In other words, it feels to me like huge cup sizes are normalizing drinking huge amounts. Sure, banning them won't solve the problem, but I feel it's a step in the right direction.

cool down, just a hundred time less, but yes you got fewer calories - though the problem with sugar (and other sweeteners) is not just calories but how fast that kind of carbohydrates will be stored in your liver (that got little room) and how much insulin will pump your pancreas. Those are the real threats but right, the diet coke mitigate them, beside it is not real coke but uses a totally different formula so if that don't bother you, keep drink it safely :)

The system is going into a totally wrong direction. I don't want to read a lot of nutritional charts before I eat or drink something. Or beter: "have to". It should be regulated. There should not be a single product in the shelves that is that unhealthy to me, so I can just eat and drink whatever I want.

That is why we vote for them. If you don't agree with a politician, don't vote for him or her. Of course somebody has to set up rules for the food industry! Otherwise they would be able to put anything they like into our food. I just wonder why we should treat sugar different from other harmful substances.

well in this example about limiting sugar it would probably be very undemocratic. Banning sugar filled drinks like coca cola is not representing us. If you just educate yourself on a healthy diet you don't have to ban foods and drinks with much sugar in it. I love coke but I only drink it like twice a week and I manage to stay very healthy. If you are educated you don't need a strong leader making rules about things like sugar. You can think for yourself and understand that too much sugar is bad
