    This is in the category of "can be replaced by an app in a minute" 😵‍💫

      honestly I see it being cool because it cannot distract you - I feel like with the amount of information available on our phones and the stress that comes with it, some people will like those standalone devices to go on walks and etc

      @joshwolf4710 Před 5 měsíci +3

      Except it actually can’t- an app can’t record all the audio going in and out of your phone - at least not within the constraints of Apple land

      @meghancampbell5265 Před 3 měsíci

      I thought the same thing and tried the app route first, the ones I tried they hogged my phone while recording making me keep the phone awake and on the app for the entire recording time. It also sucked the absolute hell out of my battery for long classes.

    I would love to use this, but my biggest use case would definitely frighten my company's infosec team/policies.

    I'm a reporter, and pledged for the PLAUD Note while it was on Kickstarter and got mine back in October. I have to say - it's a gamechanger for recording telephone interviews. Just about every other phone recording app on the market requires you to connect to an external 3rd party number (therefore making it a 3-way call) and I've always found having to go through that process at the beginning of a call to be an annoying hassle, so it's nice to have something that records to a local device. So far, the audio quality in my phoners have been clear and the transcriptions been mostly spot-on. Of course, I follow basic media ethics and obtain permission before I record a phone interview (most if not all of my sources have been fine with that because it ensures accuracy), and I'll generally only use the PLAUD's transcription and AI summarization feature for lower-stakes interviews where everything said is on the record and I'm certain will be published anyway, so privacy and security aren't as much of a concern. For more sensitive interviews, I would forego using the PLAUD Note and use a handheld recorder (if I'm recording at all), timestamp, and transcribe manually.

    The subscription model ruins it

    It sounds quite interesting, but then why do I need the device? Why dont use the mic on the phone?
    I could have a shortcut on my lock screen to record so that I don't have to unlock it and the app would use the audio directly. Without the need of bluetooth or an external device

    • @scorpioftw
      @scorpioftw Před 5 měsíci +2

      Dont get me wrong, I do understand the concept on not needing the phone. The appeal of not interacting with the phone is nice.
      But still, if everything happens in the app, and most people have to carry their phones around anyways...
      It could just be a button and then you get the info on your pc so you don't have to use the phone.

      Yep, it’s absolutely a valid criticism, and I bring this up towards the end of the video. For students in class and office workers in meetings, a recorder without a screen will attract less attention and that is part of it. Personally, I liked the flexibility of having this in my pocket when I was trying to use my phone less. Thanks for watching.

    • @scorpioftw
      @scorpioftw Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@WorkFromHype completely understandable. That why I love these types of videos. I get to see a bit of what other people find useful, even if I haven't considered it myself. Sometimes it surprises me and I discover something I didn't know before.
      BTW, Amazing video as always!

    Give it to me with a FLOSS AI model that doesn't upload all my thoughts, and I'm there.

    Just a more streamlined, straightforward device that allows the company to monitor all your activities and gather comprehensive information about you!

  • @gothicchocobo

    The thing that I hate is that there is no reason why this should be an AI/Online device. When I was in school there was Speech to Text programs that ran locally on my PC, and while they weren't correct all of the time, they were 90% correct, and based on how far we have come in other aspects of computers working things out Speech to text programs should be nearly perfect by now.
    I'd love this device if it did everything locally, but the fact that it requires an online connection to connect to ChatGPT kills it for me. My phone in my pocket is more powerful than the Desktop PC I had back then, so there really are no excuses.

      Yeah, you feed your ideas into chat GPT they're not going to be your ideas for very long.

  • @thumbtak123

    How secure is this? ChatGPT does state that others read your information that you submit onto the servers.

    • @JohnWellingtonWells
      @JohnWellingtonWells Před 5 měsíci +1

      I assume enterprises have more options in regards to how ChatGPT uses their data, including running it on the companies own servers. I work for a bank that uses it for making automated logs and there is no chance in hell sending all that personal user information to OpenAI would be legal, at least within the EU.
      That said little stops PLAUD themselves from sharing all the information.

    I would love a tool like this for work, however I wouldn’t be able to use it because of the minutes that I would be going over just in the reports I do a day. And the piece is already at $160 just for the device

  • @alanlrivera-muniz5196
    @alanlrivera-muniz5196 Před 5 měsíci +1

    I mean its cool and all but I feel like it doesnt really justify the price plus the subscription on top of it. At the end of the day its just a voice recorder which can be found in similar sizes under $30 the only thing is that it automates the process but its not something that you couldnt do with recording with a normal voice recorder and then just uploading that manually and getting these same level of ai notes

    Haven't you just explained how all this works at 8:26 ? I have no idea about programming stuff but from what i seem to understand it would be really easy to write some sort of script to automate that exact process you describe?
    Plus I don't get the 'credit card' thingy, isnt it just a fancy microphone with bluetooth and a toggle? the form factor fits well on the back of tour phone but seems to be a nightmare to hold on.
    Thx for your content, you're doing great work ! :)

    Be warned: the plaud app for iPhone has a 3-star rating with lots of negative remarks in the comments. Without a good app, the device is likely useless.
