Insurance agent here: another CON you should have mentioned is the expensive auto insurance. Michigan is the most expensive in the country because we have Unlimited PIP Medical Coverage. And even if you buy down to $250K it’s still higher than almost every other state. Most states it’s between $5,000 and $25,000 in medical coverage if you get in an accident. But you don’t get the other benefits like OT/PT or lawn/snow service if you can’t do it cuz you were hurt in an accident.

    • @PaulWolfert
      @PaulWolfert  Před 3 měsíci +5

Living in Chicago, where we often get the storms the day before Michigan, I find it funny when schools are closed in Michigan long before the weather even arrives. Chicago Public Schools seem to wait until there's at least a foot of snow WITH sub zero temps before they will close, while schools in Michigan won't take any chances and close even if it turns out to be a false alarm. I own a condo here and always intended to move back to Michigan one day to buy a house because the houses in Chicago cost much more. But Michigan's homes have really jumped up in price in recent years so I'm unsure of my plans now.

I was born and raised in north Florida (Gainesville) and have lived as far north as Hillman, MI, west of Alpena. Don't shake your head at those of us who grew up w/o basements! In Florida, if you dig a basement chances are good you'll be in the water table. For that matter, our 5 years in Hillman, the sump pump died twice, flooding the basement and causing black mold on the dry wall a previous resident had put in.
And fences aren't always great. We now live in western NC and last fall I investigated a crack I heard in the back yard when I was out front. The crack was the black bear that had climbed over the back fence, breaking part of the fence in the process. sigh. At least the wild turkeys don't bother the fence.

Bro, love your vids. I do, but traffic out here is atrocious. I lived in Indiana, Fort Wayne area, and Ohio, greater Cleveland, and it's worse than both of those areas. I live on the far end of Novi, and it took me 45 plus minutes to get to the Dunkin that's also in Novi, due to construction and it being "rush hour", which is a great deal of the day. I'm sure it's less compared to most major metropolitan areas like, New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, but it is way worse compared to nearby metro areas. Metro Detroit collectively is the second biggest metro area in the mid-west, and it shows in the traffic and extremely long commutes.

Help me, Paul! You're my only hope!
I'm moving my 76yo mother and self, both considered retired, back home to Michigan after 30+ years. We want to live in an old (and cheap, needs work kind of place) house or cabin in the woods...but the reports about certain illegal activities in the trees are kind of scaring us out of that. We don't know which area to move into -- we just know we want to live far enough away from the family so that they have to actually plan ahead to visit.😆 Which is the greater Detroit area.
In addition, Mom doesn't want to live anywhere in SW Michigan (?given me no logical explanation?) and I'm afraid to move anywhere too politically...um...divided. I'm thinking purple and neutral and calm. We're coming from Florida.🙄 Since neither of us have been home for decades we're having trouble separating fact from rumor. We know we probably can't go too rural for reasons mentioned and smaller cities that haven't yet been weaponized are perfectly fine.
I'm making us sound crazier than we actually are. I am aware of that.😅
TL;DR Upper or lower doesn't matter; woodsy, cheap and safe are the priorities. Any chance there's a region with our name on it?

Been here since 1973!!! A lot has changed in the last 10 years alone especially. Traffic has grown hugely! This is strange since supposedly our population hasn’t really grown much. I’d like that explained. Home prices not the relative bargain they were for the last 30 years. And they’ve spread out much further into the countryside. Again I don’t understand all the new homes I see if the population is stagnate. Property taxes are very stiff for new buyers, I believe this is under stated nor understood. I think the COL is decent, although it depends where you are. Actually up north living is fairly expensive. Michigan is a great place overall. Detroit it's entire history has had the worst transit system of any metro city of its size.

I moved from Metro Detroit to Washington DC and it’s a lot better quality of life. Metro Detroit has no jobs no transit and bad healthcare.

The headlines on your videos make Detroit and all of Michigan look horrible. If I was considering moving there I would never even watch the vid after reading the headline..Why do you do that?? It seems like you are selling things in MI but you tell people how horrible it is before they can view the "information" - You're advertising it to be a very bad bad place to go or live...

Thanks for the feedback! Hope you watched a few 🙂 Unfortunately, that's the way CZcams works. Negative thumbnails outperform positive ones BUT, the information isn't negative. I've made a lot of positive thumbnails and the videos completely tank until I change them.

I moved out of Michigan after having lived there my whole life in many different areas, ., the roads are horrendous, and the road construction has literally been constant all over for the past 25 years, the winters are WAY too long and cold. you rarely see the sun, which may explain why the people are kinda grumpy and no fun in general,, and one of the biggest things.. the drivers.. some of the rudest and arrogant drivers in the world are right there.. if you move there be prepared to be constantly tailgated no matter what speed you are going, and even if its solid ice outside. Oh and the salting of the roads.. they salt constantly in the winter even when it doesn't need it so plan on your car getting eaten by rust within three years.

Construction, Car destroying salt.. Liberals.. Detroit/Flint/Saginaw are ghetto.. Snow is one thing but 7 months of cold and grey winter is the worst.. Gas is expensive, flat and boring terrain, roads suck.... Tons of taxes and expensive car insurance.. I can't wait to move out down south..

Let's think a minute. The west, fire, earthquake, landslides, and droughts.
East coast, those pesky Hurricanes, that can rearrange your life. The mid west, oh yeah. Those lovely tornadoes. God's way of getting a good laugh. So you thought you could do that? Ha ha! Droughts that challenge your Ingenuity.

Don't move to Michigan. You won't like it... The people aren't very friendly.

I have found People are much nicer since I moved South. Michigan is not cheap whatsoever. In Florida now and it's a toss up financially. I can make more money in Michigan but then there are State taxes, higher housing and property taxes. People think Florida is expensive but my Florida house would double in price if I put it in Oakland county. Gas and Insurance are always high too.
