Me too, her dad should be very encouraging not bringing her down, so what she doesn't graduate from poly or uni as long as she work and change her life for better that is already good enough, my two uncles never even pass Pri 6 but one of them own a very successful halal seafood cafe restaurant and took over my grandfather coffee shop at blk 102 chong pang market and the other own a halal seafood coffee shop call Rasa at upper changi rd and they are very humble, respect others and never look down on others they even hired ex-convict to work for them.
Certificate is just a piece of paper even people with highly education most of them their behavior sucks they can be disrespectful, they can be uncourteous, look down on you while those with low education they are more humble, respect, courtesy and doesn't look down on you.

Your children's behaviour is the outcome of parent's attitude, sadly most of the time those so call "ADULTS" won't admit their mistakes and reflect upon their action, they think it is ok to treat their children this way because they are PARENTS..... Children lack of parent's acceptance and understanding so they seek it elsewhere thus this breed miscommunication breakdown between them.

100% agree to that, the worst kind of parent is the Narcissistic Parent, the kind that only think they are right and always looking to come out as the I know best you must acknowledge my superiority. Sad to say ah but parent like this there is only 1 way to deal with them okay. To torture them physically to break them physically. A human can only take so much pain before they break. This is proven by science. ‘Girl seeking Approval’ case father fit the description. Last of all, if the child grows up to be a sociopath, don’t blame the child okay. It’s your fault as the parent because of your narcissistic behaviour that the child turns up to be what they are to win you as you cannot be reason with. Quite frankly, I am surprised the girl in the case did grow up to be a sociopath. People like her father cannot be reason with the only way to win them is to break them through physical pain, so much so that they break because they cannot take it.

If you have an adoptive child is always best to explain that to them as early as you can, children can accept that more easily than older kids. Besides it is their right to know the full truth about their history and identity. Adoption is not easy, but adoptive parents must accept that their kids may one day decide to get to know and have a relationship with their birth family too, it is for their own good.

If the kid has motivation to change, don't send him back to school, especially in Singapore. School completely breaks you, all the studying and expectations aren't healthy for someone on the edge of committing crime. Especially in a country like Singapore were they have one of the toughest education systems. Instead try to get him a job or something, guide him to growing up, etc..

My probation officer was a total piece of crap. She was rude, condescending and miserable. I was on probation because I got caught with a joint at school. I was being sexually abused by my stepdad , was poor as hell, with my mom , 5 siblings and abusive stepfather , my father didn’t care for the sexual abuse and has been in and out of prison my whole life. I was struggling at school with other classmates and none of that was taken into consideration. They put me on probation and threatened to send me to juvenile, treated me like crap etc... but my abuser got 3 months and time served. He’s out rn, and I have a record. It was just weed. Some kids are just bad as hell, others (especially non violent offenders) could be going through something. I think they should look more into these things before pursuing criminal charges, for “crimes” not hurting people.

Aside from the young man with real medical issues, all I see are a bunch of brats. If your child stays out all night and comes home at 6 o'clock AM and you let them in that's YOUR fault, not theirs. If your child stops going to school and you permit them to live in your house without contributing that's YOUR fault, not theirs. This is what happens when you have no rules or boundaries. The parents need to step up. Whatever these probation officers are getting paid it's not enough. They're basically parents to these children.

Sounds to me like the skateboarder kid has pretty clear ADD. It's not up to us ADD'ers when we sleep, and sleep shaming only makes it worse. Sometimes this and other symptoms add up to what looks like some kind of defiance disorder. It's tough to know what's the chicken and what's the egg. But attention to and genuine questions about the issue, instead of just being reprimanded, shamed, punished and yelled at from parents, is a very good first step.
ADD and ACE score are also highly correlated, and scientifically proven as one of the most primary causes.
Happy these kids have healthy interventions. Cuz clearly the parents couldn't hear them (likely because these parents were too busy with their own disregulated nervous systems and past trauma to be supportive and present parents...parents that expect to birth a grown adult. Instead of understanding they're just children). And often it's because the parents are making their children responsible for their own emotions (it's an inverse relationship).
Parenting styles like I've seen in this video create co-dependant behaviors. "If you don't treat me good, why am I even trying to be better?" I've had to spend years undoing this pattern, and I'm lucky I've been able to afford therapy.
Once again, thank God for these interventions for these kids.

Yes and No, actually I feel it takes both parties. I can understand the adoptive parents are upset that the boy are in contact with his biological mum. She mentioned that they had raised him since he was a new born till now at age 18. If he is brought up in a very loving environment, they should trust him enough and should not have felt this way.
As a mother herself, if she put herself in the biological mother position, would she react the way she did? When her feelings are express in such aggressive manner, I feel the boy would be more incline to keep to himself.....
I may understand that the adoptive parents may have felt disappointed that their adoptive son has intentions to keep contact with his biological family and demanded on the context of respect to inform them. Well.....seriously if he turns 21 years old and decide to leave the family, they can't do anything as well.
Will I applaud the adoptive parents for their generous heart in adopting the boy, God bless them, maybe letting it go will yield better relation with the boy. He will mature and appreciate them more.

Can someone explain to me why these offenders, doesn’t want to study but instead hang out with “bad” friends? It’s true that friends will slowly drift apart, and if one needs money in future, it’s not very likely that their friends will be able to lend them money and stay by their side. Hence it makes more sense to at least try to study so have more opportunities to have a good job and work in some industry that you like. I remember I was studying hard for O lvls and my ex best friend ghosted me 🙄 well o lvls is once in a lifetime and it’s important for me. She should have asked and I could have explained. I never regretted studying though, bc I like getting paid and being able to support my family back.
Secondly, those young offenders are really not repentant... how can they survive bc next time when they go to the working world, their employers will not be so patient with them

    • @gilbertteo
      @gilbertteo Před 3 lety +11

studying in singapore is depressing especially with how competitive our society is. for them maybe studying isn't what they are good at and with the pressure from school, it often leads them to try and find ways to help them destress from school life. well in these cases, most of them didn't have good family support which causes them to find more comfort in these "bad" friends where they are able to talk to an communicate more with since they are on the same wavelength.
financially wise, people who don't have much money tend to struggle with making long term decisions and usually focus on short term. that's why they wouldn't think much about studying especially what I have said in the first paragraph. what would make sense for you would be clouded easily if you were to be put in a stressful condition where you feel that no one can help you (family support)
throughout the whole series, the MSF team talked a lot about families playing an important role in the offenders life and most of the offenders we have seen are usually affected by poor family support. friends are usually secondary for your case but with these offenders, they found their temporary comfort and solace in these friends rather than their family who aren't able to connect with them well. your O level story only shows the possible issues with proper family connections.
gotta agree with you on the 2nd paragraph tho, but again, habits are quite hard to change ah, hopefully they can change it slowly during their given time

A lot probably has to do with the age they're at, where the brain isn't fully developed yet, especially the area that makes rational decisions and judgements. That's probably why the probation is offered to "young offenders" in the first place, cause it's acknowledged that many probably just missing that guidance in their life. Also at the teenage age, peer acceptance becomes a lot more important than family! Which is why most would choose to follow their friends.
