    The Snake Eye stuff reminds me of Zoodiac outside of the Fusion Sub loop format in that it’s a relatively compact engine that’s just being thrown into a bunch of other decks. Like we’re seeing over 50% of decks in top cut playing the Sinful Spoils Snake Eye stuff in some capacity, but it’s hard to call it tier 0 because the decks aren’t all the same, they just play the same engine. Unlike something like Nekroz, Ishizu Tear, Fusion Sub Zoodiac, or Spyral that were the same exact list barring some minor adjustments like some Ishizu Tear lists playing 2 Chryme or seeing Heartbeat played in MD to out garbage floodgates.

      Furthermore, those decks play the Snake-Eye engine because they specifically synergize with the engine thanks to having an archetypal level 1 fire, whereas with Zoodiac basically any deck could find a way to utilize a Zoodiac engine.

    Not a single mention of Secret Village in the Majespecter section is really strange, they literally have a card that searches it. Or, hell, they can even search Necrovalley. I feel like that’s a huge elephant in the room that would make the deck a viable rogue option.

  • @bicknell1258

    Good catch by Farfa there. Snake eyes would get dumpstered by any Tearlament list that had access to the full shufflers, and would be unable to play against Kashtira until it outed Arise-Heart. The fact that both of those decks are heavily on the banlist for every format Snake-eyes is in is the reason why it's able to breakout so hard.

    • @AndrewUdal
      @AndrewUdal Před 5 měsíci +7

      Honestly full power Kashtira vs full power snake-eyes isn’t as bad of a match up as you say for two reasons. A: Since the fire king variant can play on opponents turn, if you play lancea you can drop it on your opponents turn which not only hurts there combos, but let you continue to play. B: the deck fits soooo much non engine that it will most likely see a nib or book. C: the deck literally has a card that searches the best out to the board, kurikara. If you go normal ash add kurikara you check Shang + more importantly arise heart and then you’re chilling. If anything, the match favours snake-eye.

    • @ivanmaterazzo2631
      @ivanmaterazzo2631 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Prolly it was a stretch to say Snake Eye is better than everything ever printed since we have yet to recover from Ishizu and Kash.
      Yet the ability of starting your one card combo in many different ways, the resilience to interruptions, almost half of your deck at your disposal for non-engine... We sure haven't seen anything like that before.
      Yeah Kash might come close, yet an end board of just arise heart plus something to back him up is not enough.
      Tear might come close to Snake eye resilience, although choke points do exist. Maybe not hard enough to put at hold their whole turn but good enough to make their end setup way more manageable.
      Also both those deck suffer a lot from Dbarrier (strange lab MU) while Snake eyes couldn't care any less.
      I believe that if you put those three in the same room they would find their own balance and representation since one is the best Macro deck and the other can match snake eye unfairness.
      But probably Fire would play the big dog role.

    • @yunfanji
      @yunfanji Před 5 měsíci +4

      @@AndrewUdalyeah and needless to say the amount of non engine snake eyes can afford. If you are going to sack them going 1st you would have to go through 2-3 handtraps and at that point we are not talking about snake eyes, I think you would win against any deck if you are playing a modern Yu-Gi-Oh deck

    • @bicknell1258
      @bicknell1258 Před 5 měsíci

      @@AndrewUdal I didn't say it was a bad matchup. Kash with ariseheart simply weakens every deck that needs to use the graveyard. Full power tear still won the tournament because of the outs you just mentioned but just as easily you don't see them or you open diabellstar line instead of ash normal and lose that way, + the usual getting dshifter'd. In that format it would be 2nd best deck because it would beat Kash a bit easier than Tear but have no way to play around a shuffler in grave.

    • @bicknell1258
      @bicknell1258 Před 5 měsíci

      @@ivanmaterazzo2631 So my point is less that they're not of similar power, but that Tear has a matchup edge so obscenely strong that beyond Snake Eye's better performance against Kashtira, it would be shut out of that hypothetical format. Snake-Eye's power comes from the number of ways it has to stay ahead on the cards it needs to resolve the summons without losing bodies. It is heavily taking for granted that no decks in the current meta contests how it keeps ahead on those bodies. Tear absolutely does, with one shuffler, they can't resolve flamberge, with two shufflers, they can't resolve popular. Add to that the lack of easy rank 4 access, and Tear is pretty much guaranteed to win game one, and even if it gets shut out by something game 2, that's nothing new to the deck in all the formats it dominated in.

    Honestly with the snake-eye deck, it has to be flamberge dragon for me, its all of the follow up, all of the board building and two different types of disruption. I love how snake-eyes plays on MD but i'm not going to drop over 1000 for everything when i just play locals and don't plan to go too a YCS which is my own choice but i'm interested in how they hit it, it'd still operate in a really reasonable manner.
    I know its odd thinking of how they'll hit it but they literally killed everything else so we pretty much have snake-eye and anti-snake eye, even if the deck is fun they'll try too kill it.

MD just seems like a better deal and you don’t have to break the bank over it. No way I can justify dropping $300 for just the Wanted cards. Konami really screwed up by making most of the SE/SS higher rarity.
    Edit: also, playing through Maxx C with the deck you want to play is a thousand times better than having to make a budget deck that will lose to most meta decks at locals because you just don’t have the money

      Wanted is not one of them. I'm proxying it for personal use until it gets reprinted since i know I won't take it to locals. They need to limit Wanted and ban Poplar or whatever that little scrungle's name is. Princess will be fine, we have DD Crow and we could move Called By back to 2 like in the OCG. Either that or Konami could print bystial type monsters designed for non light/dark monsters.

      Take my word with a grain of salt.
      I've been playing MTGA for 3 years now; and granted playing it online is not exactly the same as paper - I don't remember having a single deck being 65%+ of the meta. Usually decks don't even get to above 15%; except for MTGA specifically with the flavor of the set aggro deck which is usually at 20-25%. Those aggro decks don't really perform well in tournaments, people just use them to finish their dailies fast.
      Of course this is for standard only. I have no idea how the meta is in the other formats.

    • @tinfoilslacks3750
      @tinfoilslacks3750 Před 5 měsíci

      Tier 0 metas are very uncommon in MtG, the last tier 0 meta was rakdos scam in Modern, and even then it was 30%~ meta share, and the remaining meta beyond that was much more diverse.
      Cards in extended formats in other games also just hold their relevance far longer than in Yugioh. Lots of meta decks in MtG modern hinge on 5-10+ year old build around cards like ad nauseum and lands.
      Ironically, the biggest shift in MtG Modern (the most competitive and popular non rotating format) were caused by Modern Horizons 1 and 2. These were packs that were never standard playable, designed for and released into the non rotating formats directly, and had been designed with an intentionally high power level so they'd be meta in modern (despite having tons of unplayably bad cards that existed for no reason other than to pad out the packs and make the actually good cards more scarce, many of which were esoteric references to old legacy cards which were well liked but not good enough to be played.) Basically they intentionally employed drastic powercreep to effectively rotate a technically non-rotating format. Even old decks which were fully formed ended up swapping out at least one card for a Modern Horizons card. The optimal version of each meta deck has at least 1 or 2 MH cards in them. Modern Horizons 2 went on to be among the top 5 highest selling sets of all time because of this. Even though tons of decade old archetypes are playable and even meta Horizons totally rewrote what these decks look like and how the format feels. Goyf isn't even really relevant anymore for instance. Players often cynically refer to Modern as "Modern Horizons block constructed" and the inevitable Modern Horizons 3 as "next rotation".
      So you know, MtG's most recent tier 0 format was a direct result of designing supplemental products in precisely the same way Yugioh designs all of their products.

    Would love to see yall talk with someone whos in the yugi-tube space whos not a meta player. Just different prospective would be nice cause saying that one deck playing at a high level where its " your playing fire rn and winning or your not and your losing" doesnt sound like good yugioh to me.

    Idk that I believe in majespecter being a part of the meta. It's board is not impactful enough, imo, to stop any reasonable SE deck, and Flamberge hard countering pendulums means you have a like 0% win rate going second into SE.

    Something being the best deck makes the meta unfun to watch or to play, and if you want a skill matchup with no variance, a card game is not a good example. The past format was very decent, giving a lot of decks to shine, even Joshua proving this right, as when a good player enters a diverse format true deck knowledge and meta read comes in clutch.

    I'm going to be real, plenty of ultra wide super diverse formats are dogwater. Balancing cards is *really* hard, and usually if a format is very diverse it's not because Konami managed to design and execute a bunch of new archetypes, generics, and legacy support simultaneously to create a balanced interesting metagame.
    If a format is really diverse it's often because there are elements at play that lower player agency in general. If there's a ton of decks that absolutely need to go either first or second it places more emphasis on the coinflip and makes the game more swingy. If going second blow out cards are especially powerful it makes the game more saccy. If FTKs are really popular, if the decks with the highest ceilings and powerlevels are brickier than normal, if something about the format raises the variance in the game as a whole, or if the meta is so wide it's impossible to account for everything and some decks just scam wins off of other decks in the format it causes a format to be diverse just because nongames make more decks playable.
    Past a certain point, formats aren't diverse and wide because they're well balanced, they're diverse because the game is such a low agency crapshoot that you can play a ton of things because what you're playing doesn't matter.

    Joker's Wild and Joker's Knight are two fantastic cards in a bad archetype, lol.
    Bower is only good for rank-four plays, but it eats the normal summon to do it (which is super-suck for a deck THIS bricky) and Arcana Queen Joker (?) is just a terrible card, worse than EVERY other card the deck plays.
    Konami didn't give the deck any actual divine beast support or anything to go into, beyond monster cards that are a mix of 15 to 8 years old, and for some reason released Branded & Tribrigade at the same time, lol. Anime decks are just down-bad primarily because Konami wants them to suck for a bizarre reason.

    I am gonna write it down here since I believe i got blocked on Josh’s main channel from some admin for criticising the game of Yugioh.
    We need to wake the hell up. Yugioh is just in a loophole for now. Has been there for years and it’s getting worse and worse by the years.
    Because now, the tier 0 formats are becoming more and more reoccuring.
    Konami follows business tactics that are so disgustingly harmful to the game of yugioh, yet influencer don’t seem to bother and just frigging cope with everything.
    How is this healthy?
    In Magic or FaB for that matter, the community would already have gone riot if they would be exposed to that greedy and anti-customer procedure.
    Yet here we are in yugioh TCG land, sitting around our cards, feeling grumpy about Konami but always accepting the crap they do.
    It’s crazy that if you voice out those problems, you are getting put on an ignore list. I just can’t help it but feel like i’m in the wrong timeline. Where we accept customer exploitation.

  • @felipemendes5336
    @felipemendes5336 Před 5 měsíci +2

    I love Josh, but im gonna be honest, his take on Snake-Eyes is probably his worst one ever. He says the deck is the best one, then he says the deck is toxic if you you are playing anything below its power level, essentially everything that it is not Snake-Eyes. So the deck is only not toxic in a mirror match, like wtf.
    How is this healthy, beacuse he happens to like the deck ? Farfa for once says he likes Block boy but will admit it is toxic and unhealthy for the game, witch is fine everyone is bias to some decks/cards. But Josh somehow seems to think that losing to Mathmech/Mannadium 5 disruptions is worse than losing to Snake-Eyes 5-7 disruptions.
    The meta that we have right now in MD is not healthy but Snake - Eyes is definitely not better, and since it is stronger than other decks, if you are trying to play rogue, you are even more screwd.

    • @ora5799
      @ora5799 Před 5 měsíci +2

      Its probably due to his perspective as a competitive player. He wants to play the best deck in the format and feels like the mirror is "fun" unlike mannadium where the mirror just comes down to the die roll and handtraps. However this sort of arguement is nonsense because the health of the meta isnt just how good the mirror is in topcut.
