_"You think cooking is a cute job, eh? Like Mommy in the kitchen? Well, Mommy never had to face the dinner rush while the orders come flooding in, and every dish is different and none are simple, and all of the different cooking times, but must arrive at the customer’s table at exactly the same time, hot and perfect! Every second counts and you cannot be Mommy!"_
As much as I love some of their others, I love to cook and I've had lots of rats for pets (they're awesome 🐭), so this has been my favorite Pixar film ❤️ It's so imaginative, and I LOVED the soundtrack, still listen to "Le Festin" all the time.
Having worked in the food industry for many years, I also really appreciated how much research they did to create the setting so accurately. Yep, like Kim said, it can be inSANE back there. I've been Linguini AND Colette, sometimes at the same job 😄 What I really enjoyed was that I didn't immediately recognize anyone's voices so I was able to focus more on the characters themselves, and that Ego has such a nice redemption at the end instead of a comeuppance. I still cry when he drops his pen lol

People say that Anton Ego is supposed to be the "villain" of this movie, but he's just a professional critic. He may have been a hurdle in restoring Gusteau's credibility, but he was just doing his job. I think Skinner is the real villain of his movie; he nearly sold out the Gusteau's brand, and does so much more to antagonize Remy and Linguini than Ego's challenge, because he had nothing better to do after being fired than to seek revenge.

As a french girl, I'm very glad you love this film. Did you notice Folamour quick appeareance ?
I'm surprise to discover the song is in french in the original version. Besides, Camille, the singer of this song is the one who voiced Colette in the french version.
It's funny because the name " Alfredo Linguini " is a food référence : the linguine are a type of pastas and Alfredo, a name of a sauce.
Colette is the good example of the difficulty of women who work in " men jobs ". She's inspired by Hélène Darroze a french chief.

    • @swanpride
      @swanpride Před 3 lety +4

It certainly is. A lot of Pixar's movies boil down to the one moment, the one scene which is just so good, it would elevate even the most crappiest of movies (not that Pixar does crappy). In the Toy Story franchise, it's Jesse's story. In Up, it is the whole prologue. and in Ratatoille, it is certainly Ego's article. Such an amazing moment.

@33:55 _I'm happy they made a resturant called Ratatouile. I'm curious on how that works cause they're using rats._
Actually it is *Anton Ego,* who opened Ratatouile *using his solid reputation* as tough food critic *to cover* the fact that the chef is a rat He also made sure to be seen eating there as often as possible. A *sign* to customers that everything must be *perfect with Anton Ego eating here.* Funny his name is Ego, underlining the idea he mentions in his article: That it is easy to be a tough critic with the downside that the critic feeds his ego while leaving chefs no room for creativity or discovery.

This is my all time favorite animated film, and some fun facts:
The restaurant in this movie is based on THE FRENCH LAUNDRY, and the producers even asked chef 👨‍🍳 Thomas Keller to design a special dish for this movie, which is the ratatouille dish that the food critic tried towards the end that reminded him of the dish his mom had made for him as a child. And Thomas Keller has often said that a great meal should give you great memories.
Now, The French Laundry 🧺 is located in Yountville, California. It is the restaurant that California governor Gavin Newsom was recently caught eating at with a group of his buddies with zero masks 😷 on and zero distancing!!!
    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Another favorite movie of mine is SPANGLISH, with Adam Sandler playing a chef, and his restaurant in the film is also based on THE FRENCH LAUNDRY 🧺, from how the dining room is set up and the kitchen and the plating of the dish! To prepare for the role, Sandler cooked with chef Thomas Keller, who taught him to cook. And there is a video here on YT, of Keller showing Sandler how to make the world’s greatest sandwich 🥪!!!! The very same sandwich 🥪 that Sandler makes in the movie!
    😋 🤤 🥪

An clever Easter egg in this movie is that the old woman at the beginning of the movie is Anton Ego’s mother. It’s the same house and decor that you see in Ego’s childhood flashback when he tastes the ratatouille. Remy had made Ego’s mother’s recipe.

While it was a cool fan theory, unfortunately Brad Bird confirmed that it wasn't the case, a lot of the background props were simply reused to save time during animation. Too many things didn't line up anyway, especially Mabel (the old lady) and Ego's mother.

@@drewbear1969 I’ll just chalk it up to fate, that they didn’t realize what they were doing, and the old lady is Ego’s mother. Simply because I like it better, lol. Maybe they didn’t consciously plan it, but it happened. She could be Ego’s mother, as Ego has to be in his 50s at least, and she looks old enough to be the mother of a person in their 50s.
