  • "Ideas worth spreading" shouldn't be limited by the belief that we must
all speak complicated, high-level English. Simple English can sometimes
be the most powerful. Ms. Yukiko Nakayama will show you how confident,
simple English opens up many more opportunities of communication than
    uncertain, advanced English.
Ms. Yukiko Nakayama is the representative director of U-ENGLISH
corporation. She also works as a full-time lecturer at Japan Society for
Technical Communication (JSTC), and as a part-time lecturer in the
engineering departments of various universities in Japan, including
Kyoto University. She has passed the Grade-1 EIKEN Test in Practical
English Proficiency and the Level-1 English Technical Writing Test,
including an honorable mention award from the Ministry of Education,
Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Her job focuses on the revision
and translation of technical manuscripts as well as patents. She also
teaches technical English at various companies, universities, and
technical colleges, and has written textbooks on the subject.

I have been teaching English to UN staff for over 25 years and the biggest challenge has been convincing my students that simple language is far more effective than using jargon and complicated structures. This is true for both speaking and writing.

Exactly ! It is so hard to find people sharing this point of view. A lot of people think that if you want to seem pro, you need to use complicated structures. That is crazy.
Even native speakers love complicated structures. They give bad examples to the learners.

prefer to drive on flat and smooth roads, but they should never lose the ability to drive on bumpy roads. Cause one day they will have to conquer bumpy roads to get their destination.

I teach to English speaking students.

if you are a classroom person, you'd better learn English or any other language from a person who learned it by him/herself. Only after getting to a certain level go and pick a native teacher. In Korea, a lot of people from the USA, UK, Canada (the most preferred among Korean mothers) the language academies brag having native teachers. But 90% of students will not be able to have a decent communication even a simple one in the end. Being a native and being able to teach are different things. One who leanred a language by him/herself can help others to learn it much faster and more effectively than a native speaker. Native speakers are good for practicing with but not learning from.

    • @spokenenglishwithtatieng4k730

That's so true. I totally agree with you as I'm the one who taught myself English and achieved an advanced level. All my friends from the US, Canada, the UK always give me very nice complements on my knowledge of English. And yes, I teach my students now how to learn it and speak fluently, naturally, spontaneously!

    • @ManuelPerez-wc5th
      @ManuelPerez-wc5th Před 5 lety +1

I'm agree. People often think a native speaker can teach you better than any other person. But in fact, native speakers don't know how to teach their own language, because the learning process they had was completely different from the one they use to teach someone else.
