    Never would have thought about the toes thing! So brilliant, but I'll have to caution you about adding fabric on top, it will reduce propulsion by a LOT!

      Courtney Mermaid I guess that answers my question. I really want to make a fabric mermaid tail with my niece using the Finis Luna but when I search online, so far you seem to be the only one seriously trying to make it work. In other review vids for this tail I'm seeing in the video/comments that it can't be done because of how flexible it is. Prove them wrong! 😆 No pressure though...😅😅😅

    I bought a Luna based mainly on your review! I love the design and
    durability. It's much sleeker than some other designs. Also
    adjustable! The foot pocket design and placement is quite comfortable.
    I know you (Courtney mermaid/Vancouver Mermaid) do tails
    for it. It can also be fit in a Fin Fun tail (with a tiny bit of edge
    showing in the middle bottom), so put it with a blue/green tailskin).
    The PROBLEM is those of us with big weird feet. They need to do a larger size,
    or one with a boxier foot pocket. My feet are size tenish, but I have
    arthritic big toe base joints aka: "Hallux rigidus is a form of
    degenerative arthritis, which can cause pain and stiffness in the
    metatarsophalangeal joint (the joint where your big toe-the
    hallux-joins your foot). ... A bump, like a bunion or callus, often
    develops on the top of the foot and makes wearing shoes difficult. "
    While this is not a problem in large dive fins that I can wear
    neoprene socks in, or in the neoprene Fin Fun fins, it becomes an
    irritation in a tight fitting fin.
    I love the Luna and would recommend it. It is stupid easy to get on and
    off. The flerp flerpyiness is weird compared to, oh, my (pair of)
    dive fins, but looks great, even in a tailskin.
    While I am short (5'5"ish) and somewhat broad compared
    to, oh, the slender and graceful Courtney Mermaid, I seem to be making way underwater.
    Now I wonder if I can modify it in some way to accommodate my feet.

    I watched this video about a year ago when pools were closed during the pandemic. You totally sold me on the magic of this tail. I had been using a Finis Wave for about 10 years since I was a kid. The comfort and experience you were describing was exactly what I wanted. Now that the pool is open, I ordered a Luna and got to swim with it the first time today. It lived up to your description. It's so comfortable. I honestly found that the propulsion felt much more natural and mermaid-like with this rather than the Wave. And the straps stay on! I'm in love. Thanks for making this video. I understand why you're hugging this monofin during the whole video. I've been hugging mine whenever I'm not wearing it at my desk haha!

    Thank you thank you thank you! I have been waiting SO long for an honest objective review on this. I really want a comparison to the Mahina, because that's what I have, and I'm still having serious issues with it. I saw that while you didn't mention it by name, someone was swimming with one. Honestly, the difference in speed doesn't seem to be all that different, just from watching this... but I have a latex allergy and my feet also do cramp very badly as well. I really can't try every monofin out there, not knowing what they are made from. But this, as long as it has enough push, seems to be perfect!

    • @CourtneyMermaid
      @CourtneyMermaid  Před 7 lety

      Yes totally! I loved this fin a lot! I've not ever tried the Mahina but my friend Mermaid Kim has one and does say that it does give a bit more of a kick than the Luna. Overall though I don't think it's that big of a difference and given how I like to use this fin, it works perfectly for me. I love it so much! Thank you for watching and I wish you lots of luck with finding the right monofin for you!

    i love this vid, after this year i broke both my pinky toes (horses where like IMMAH STOMP!! around spring this year, and around start November anotherone stood on the other foot!!..yeah go lucky me D: it was my work and accidents cause one got spooked and one was just hyped for the new spring meadow so eh.)
    i was so scared that i wasnt able to use my monofin again cause it is a Swea'm fin and my toes are just not going down in swelling at the moment.
    now i am sure to get a Luna cause everytime i see you with yours i love the look/ and i think it wil not hurt my feet as mutch as my own Swea'm dose at the moment.
    and comfort is a high thing with me cause i have some nerve pain in my leg.
    soooo yeah i think you got another mermaid into the Luna monofin

    OK, so I debated about sending this back or giving it to someone else. But I LOVE it... but it rubs my big toe joint miserably. Because it's designed for Tinkerbelle. I have big broad feet. So what I did was a simple hack: a couple of hairbands (the little boingy ones like tiny bungee circles) looped through the last hole in the strap, and both ends looped around the peg on the fin. Taaah daaaah! I have just elongated the heel strap allowing my feet to sit farther back, so the toes are not crammed up into the foot pockets. I can now put on light neoprene socks, padding my lumpy feet. It is much more comfortable and works very well. This is a wonderfully sturdy fin that would survive beach or lake (don't drop it tho, it sinks). With socks, no rubbing from sand. It's quite easy to get on and off, but stays on even with the hairband extensions.

    Hi! I know that you are one of the strong supporter of the Luna monofin. I was almost buying it but than I saw so much sad reviews about people complaining because they broke their monofin after a couple of times the used it. It seems that 15% of the people (vs. 75% satisfied) reported same issue (actually this is a huge percentage!). Now I feel confused 😔 what do you think? Thanks in advance for your opinion. And thanks for your videos 😊

    • @CourtneyMermaid
      @CourtneyMermaid  Před 4 lety +1

      In my opinion, the fin needs to be treated with care as it is a full silicone fin. I am very gentle with mine and I avoid ripping on it hard when doing it up, putting it on, and taking it off. I have been using the same fin for over 3 years now without a problem.

    I already have a Linden, and I love it. But I have no friends who are mermen too. But I do know a mermaid. She only has one of the suntail-monofins looking ones from Amazon. The one where you wrap a string around your legs. It's dangerous, and I don't let her swim in it. She said it hurts too, so yeah. But I'm kinda thinking og bying a new monofin, for her so we can swim! I'm kinda thinking of this one, but I don't know how to transport two monofins on a bike, at the same time ;p Also how heavy is it? I'm kinda worried that it's really heavy heh...

      Aww thank you! Can you define "weird foot shapes" a bit more? I have size 11 long, narrow feet and long toes and it fits me well. My Mum's feet are much the same as mine but I believe she is a 7.5 (US sizing) and it fits her very well. It is silicone so it isn't a ridged shape which adds to the comfort.

    Hi I am looking to buy a mermaid tail and I'm trying to figure out what would be best for me this sounds like it would be almost perfect because I have large feet too and I'm looking for more of like an easy glide, but I am curious if this would still be your go to tail? After a year do you still like it as much as you do in this video? Oh also do you think this would be fine for lake swimming there isn't a strong current in the lake that I am near but I just figured I'd ask ha ha

  • @camerondkirby
    @camerondkirby Před 6 lety +1

    Do you think this monofin would work with the FinFolk fabric tail? Aquamermaids recommended using their monofin which is stiff and professional... but I’m wondering if this would work with my new tail!

    • @CourtneyMermaid
      @CourtneyMermaid  Před 6 lety +1

      Honestly I don't know with 100% certainty. My gut tells me that this would not be an ideal fin to use because the FinFolk tails are already huge and very flexible and I think it would be better to use a stiffer monofin. I haven't seen these tails in person, nor have I heard from anyone if they've tried it out, but my gut tells me that it might not be the best option.
