Do you have any other tips that helped you that weren’t mentioned here? Feel free to share!!
Also PS - if you’re ever too tired to read something out loud, Julie Andrews has a podcast called “Julies Library” where her and her daughter read children’s books and I’ve definitely leveraged it on the days where I can’t be bothered 🫠
These tips are exactly what we have done with our toddler and she was an early talker as well! We are amazed at how well she communicates. Random songs are the best. 💕
My son also spoke at 12 months and read at 3. When he was in first grade read at a 9th grade level
Beth, this was SO helpful - more than you’ll ever know! Everything was explained flawlessly, I didn’t just listen to you, I HEARD YOU - I was actively picking things up from what you were saying! And I cannot wait to put these things into actions! Thank you so much, God bless! 💕
Aw, thank you so much for the kind words! So glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful! 🤍
realizing just how much my literature degrees/upbringing has influenced me because I most certainly use 'expert' and 'implore' in common speech 😅😂
Thank you for this video! My daughter is 8 months old and I really worry about her speech because Amy husband and I are such quiet people. I started just by singing songs to her but I know I really need to step up our communication. Watching Ms. Rachel and copying some of her techniques have helped me know how to talk to my baby!
Great and very helpful video. Thanks Beth
Absolutely love this! Thanks so much for sharing your experiences and recommendations Beth!!
Ahh I love little communicators!! Such a fun age, watching them learn!
So helpful, thank you!!
I love this!
I love your hair style. You should show us how you do it. ❤ love your videos btw
I loved this! This was very helpful and informative! Thank you so much for sharing!
I love this! I can't wait to incorporate story time at mealtimes with our breakfast and lunch. My daughter is 21 months
This is wonderful! Thank you for the ideas. I talk all time to my 5 month old since birth. But I didn’t know reading could already help. I’ll start adding that as an activity.
This is a great video! Thank you for putting this together! I am a Communicative Disorders Assistant and went to school for things like child language development and you touched on so many great points and ideas here! Also, we came across the Story Orchestra books when we went to a bookstore in the States and have since been obsessed with adding them to our baby registry. First baby coming in May! 🥰
Love this so much! Random but what do you use to curl your hair ?
This is great! We have a very early communicator as well and when I found your channel the first thing I told my husband was “I found a CZcamsr who has a daughter who is hyper vocal too!” Haha. My career was in verbal behavior/early communication training but for some reason I didn’t expect her language to be this advanced.
I attribute a lot of my daughter’s communication level to her ability to attend to faces as well as imitate. So my tip would be to be as engaging/expressive as you can and hone in on those imitation skills!
You really have a knack for organizing videos like these. Always interested in what your experiences are! Thanks.
Thank you so much!!
Funny thing is I’m looking for articles and books to reference for my research paper in psychology. My research question asks just how much do babies understand their environment and their place in it. So, I’ll be citing the excerpt you read about the benefits of reading aloud 😂 Thank you for the thought provoking video!
15:12 also, for their first birthday ask for cards instead and build up their library that way!
I am pregnant with our first and saved this video when you first posted it, but had low expectations for the practicality of it. Beth, this is so helpful!! I will definitely be referring back to this as our daughter starts to communicate and I have found it so useful even for the children I interact with now. Thank you for putting this together!!
That means so much, thank you! 😭 I put a ton of effort into making things helpful for you guys so I so appreciate you sharing that and I’m so glad!! ❤️
Such great tips Beth! My baby girl just turned one and is finally calling me Mama/Mom in context and WOW lol so cute. She also says duck/dog/gog/guck (can’t really tell) ALL day long. I wish I knew what she meant hahaha we are a bilingual household, and have been told speech can be delayed because of that. I definitely need to be better at narrating things because I naturally am a quiet person who doesn’t like to speak ha whoops, sorry babe
Aw, so exciting! There’s nothing better than hearing your name in context 😍 I’ve actually heard that it’s a myth that being bilingual causes delays… I’m not an expert but as far as I know that will be nothing but beneficial for her in the future! You go mama!
How do you find good book recommendations ?
I love the idea of reading at mealtimes. My son is 20 months and loves flicking through books but has a short attention span for a story. But if I were to try and read to him during a meal he would just want to grab the book and then not eat🙈 but I will give it a go!
Another great time to read is when he’s in the bath!
This is really interesting. Good point about showing children actually pictures of objects they are learning about. Do you think parents should limit books not based on reality, like talking animals, super heroes, etc?
I think it’s all about balance and context honestly! For flash cards or first words I’d prioritize real images but stories with talking animals and super heroes are great for the imagination too. Especially when “playing pretend” begins. around 18 months. We leverage both :)
Did you start reading to your new borns or did you wait until they were a bit more awake ?
I read to them as newborns too! Call me crazy but I started reading while they were still in the womb haha 🤪 however I became more intentional with it after the newborn stage. Just talking to your newborn is great too!
I have a 21 month old and she can’t say many words and I been trying everything. I’m thinking maybe she needs speech therapy.
Such a helpful video ! But just a warning to other moms, the first 100 words board book has a rubber ducky In a rainbow and it looks very much like the LGBTQ rainbow… I personally would never have purchased this book if I knew that imagery was going to be in the book. I don’t think that’s appropriate for children.
