- Irish-American themed song recorded by the Jesters that has all the elements of great a party tune: Dancing, drinking, a band and a pretty girl... This is being played on a 1940's Sears Silvertone Crank style Victrola record player. It's the model that courting couples would bring on their picnics. No electricity needed! I saw this same model in an episode of M*A*S*H* when Hawkeye was examining one of those Bombshell Nurses... More 78 classic records on video coming soon.. I have the Andrews Sisters, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Jordan, Woody Herman, Guy Lombardo, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, BB King, Artie Shaw, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Al Jolson, Bing Crosby, Les Paul w/Mary Ford, Muddy Waters, Big Bill Broonzy, Lightnin' Hopkins and lots of old Swing Era records... Stay Tuned!

I'm 72 as I write in 2021. My Grandma Lucy was born in Brooklyn in 1891. She sang this song, and during the 1950s and early 1960s we would go to Coney Island and there would always be a nickelodeon playing this lovely and charming song. I'm a hardcore research and performer of historic songs of the sea, but this song always brings a smile to my face and a joyful tear to my eye.
Thank you so much for posting this!! When I was a little girl, my grandmother taught me the first verse to this song and would sing it whenever she was cooking or dishes. I'm 24 now and she passed away in 05'. I miss her a lot and hearing this makes me miss her a little less.
I'm 58 now. Back in 1967 I went to visit a girl I liked who was a candy striper at an nursing home. There was this lady who would want to dance and sing this song everytime I visited. Memories.
I found this in a box of records that was given to me for helping someone move. I heard it when my uncle would sing it when I was a little kid. It's fun to think of them now goofing off to this tune.. It has been played over 40,000 times here.. The record would have been worn out by now! I'm glad you got to enjoy it with me..
UJAXMAN:Much Much Much better version on Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train.
Ice Cream truck in the Bronx would play this with its bells -- it was SO BEAUTIFUL!! You could hear it for BLOCKS!!!
Thank you so much for posting this video. My Mother sang this song to me when I was little. The tune has been going round and round in my head for several days. I was so excited to hear it again. Thanks for the memory!!!
Thanks a lot for posting this! My mother used to sing this when I was little and it's a real treat to hear it again.
Grandma used to sing this to me when I was little
Today, I saw a beautiful young woman with authentic strawberry blonde hair in Wegman's Brooklyn. I understand natural strawberry blonde hair is rather rare and is usually added by a colorist.
I'm 80 now. When I was in 4th grade in St Helena's grammar school in the Bronx, my partner and I danced the waltz to this song in a school play. This brings back fond memories. Thanks, UJAXMAN!
My Dad used to wake me up in the morning singing this song. I was, of course, a strawberry blonde. Loved and miss him so much. Thanks for this wonderful memory!!!m mm
This is the only one I could find on CZcams. I love this song!
Thank you, Thank you. The new generations need to know how it used to be so they can appreciate today.
My Dad would sometimes sing this song, I remember in the early 60's (that's 1960's)
We were taught this in music..... Juniors! Can you imagine what students would say now!!!!!!! 😱
Three seconds into the video, I knew I would be giving this a thumbs up. Thanks for loading!
Thank you for posting this, when I was little my mom sang this to me as a bedtime song. I'd never forgotten the chorus but couldn't find it for years. This was the first time in over 12 years I'd heard it, and it brought back precious memories of my mom (my mother passed away a few years ago).
Driving log distances my dad would start to sing…this was one of his favorites🥰
A wonderful rendition of this song was in Hitchcock's 'Strangers on a train'.
I remember this was a song I had to learn when I was taking piano lessons in the '60's.
ohh I
It's fantastic song from 1895.
I have a sister who's a strawberry blonde, as well as two female twin cousins and a nephew. It's a recessive gene that's rarely expressed. It seems to follow the males in my family.
My late mom loved to sing this song, and taught it to me, as well as many others. I haven't heard it in 46 years except for playback in my head and occasional self-hummed bars.
Thanks for this peek into my past.
I'm a redhead naturally and that's why I'm listening to this song.
My grandmother would play this on the piano, and we would sing!
Thanks for the wonderful memory!!!!
Thanks for posting this. I'm taking a american music class and this song was mentioned. I really enjoyed it. :)
AWEsome record and portable Victrola...sounds great sounds very clear!
Blast from the past! Thanks!
What a huge format for such a small song.
Nice, thanks.
ahhhhh nothin like those oldies.
My sister's name is Kasey..our Grandfather used to sing this to her in the 70s.
Our ice cream truck in the 70's played this.
Thanks for posting this. It's interesting to hear the verse in 3/4, like the chorus. The sheet music I found has three verses, in 4/4, alternating with the 3/4 chorus. That version is posted on my channel.
mine too it brings back so many memories
I'm a 65 year old once red head and was sexually assaulted as a kid by dear Uncle Walt . He would sing this song to me every time we were in the same room together amongst family. He would pick me up and dance with me and everyone thought it was charming. No one ever questioned why I would cry. For some crazy reason this came across my feed.Even crazier that I would have listened to it. And I guess still crazier that I just typed this.
my mum use to sing this to me when i was a little girl....
It is! I have a set of remastered CDs made from the pristine 78's of a neighbor who was a sound tech from 1928 to 48 and they are awesome.
I wish I could go back to those days.....and STAY there. Today SUCKS!
(On the other hand, food and drug standards are much better today, and we know how to create flu viruses, so there are trade-offs.)
Great posting. Guy Lombardo also had a good recording of this.
Awesome! - then again my name is Matt Casey so I am slightly biased. :)
@19Chuck80 Thanks, My wife and I enjoy it and bring it out for special events a few times a years.
I love this song! Connie Francis also recorded it. Now posted on CZcams.
Nice stuff :)
Strangers on a Train(Hitchcock) brought me here. It was much much much better in the movie! Movie was a masterpiece!!!
"Strangers on the train", Hitchcock's film (1951), carousel song.
bandwagon22:Thank you. That movie brought me here. If you can watch it tonight 12/23/18 at 6:45 pm Pacific time on public channel MoviesTV. Love this song!!!
@TractusPhasmatis I'm glad you found it and best wishes for success.
this is fron a rita hayworth movie !!!!!
Love this song! It's used in a Hitchcock movie, Strangers on a Train. That's where I heard it.
We have to sing this song for a play at school!!
+Savannah Glover the Importance of being Earnest?
For some odd reason, this reminds me of the films IndoChine and Apocalypse Now. I believe there was a scene where the special ops soldier dines at a French couples' farm.....
Cagney!
I bet old music is cool
Whoops, wrong 90s
Interesting "low-mass" tone arm. Who is the manufacturer of this Victrola?
There are two more verses on the original sheet music that are not used on this recording. They would have made it far too long for one side of a 78.
Really? I'd love to see those. Can write them out or email them to me?
I have to sing this song on St. Patrick's Day this coming year and would love to do the entire song.
This song is basicaly a vocal piece .The Music appears to be only to give the piece a full body. I would buy the record if I could find it
