  • Soundoracle.net - Week four of our “Fundamental Series” is an depth discussion on the fundamental frequencies of hi-hats. Understanding these fundamental frequencies can be a key factor in bettering your engineer skills.
    A properly EQ’d hi-hat can bring sparkle & energy to any mix. The hi-hat is a very important component that adds to the groove of most music. This may seem like a fairly easy instrument to EQ. It may be tempting to overlook & ignore when mixing a song; however, there are some techniques to consider when EQing a hi-hat.
    In this video, we discuss a detailed analysis of the fundamental frequencies of a hi-hat. We talk about & demonstrate what specific boosted frequencies will help a hi-hat cut through the mix without clashing with the rest of the music. We also examine different frequencies that should be cut to avoid harshness throughout your mix.
    In this video, we show examples of different types of hi-hats such as, electronic “trap” sounding hi-hats, filtered, acoustic, & soft hi-hats. We will go over acoustic & digital open hi-hats. We also touch base on cymbals & overheads as well.
    As with any aspect of music, the type of hi-hat & song vary with frequencies; however, these key elements will point you in the right direction of a great sounding hi-hat. Your listeners & fans will appreciate the energy these techniques bring to your hi-hat without getting lost in the mix or worse, hurting their ears.
    Follow along as professional engineer Eric “Realistic” Michael gives you a step-by-step guide on choosing the right frequencies to boost & cut for a hi-hat.
    Realistic is a Producer/Engineer located in Atlanta, GA specializing in Hip-Hop, R&B & Pop music. Hey thx for making this!!Exactly what I needed to check out;worked on the hi-hat yesterday just using info I had written down about EQ areas involved;this showed me what's really going on...appreciate the focus on different types/tambourine....
    What's especially great about this tutorial is that you go into each frequency area involved in detail,soloing it,showing what's going re-how the hat sounds there,what aspects of the overall sound are represented...my go-to for this stuff!!

    You should NEVER EVER use that type of slope on a hhat. Also, that rumble...is what makes the difference between a professional and a homemade track.

    • @sebbef
      @sebbef Před 5 lety

      The high pass slope? You mean like it should rather be straight down I assume.

    • @coryhill6575
      @coryhill6575 Před 3 lety

      So what slope should be used?

    • @000SilaS000
      @000SilaS000 Před 3 lety

      Slopes are narrow or wide. You should never use a slope that narrow on a high hat. A high hat is basically noise. Not a tone. Of course, if there is a resonant frequency in the hat, you should use a narrow eq to eliminate the resonance. But that is not common in hats. Cut the lows of a high hat until it sounds different. Then back it up a little. If you don’t have good listening environment, do not go under 150hz.

    • @000SilaS000
      @000SilaS000 Před 3 lety

      Also, I may use the term slope very wrong. Sorry😁
