WARRRIORS, COME OUT TO PLAAAAYYYYY!
WARRRIORS, COME OUT TO PLAAAAYYYYY!
[clink clink]
@@SansAzizahaha 😂 the beer bottles.
Such a classic
Was an improvised thing. Director asked him to do “something different “ and he picked that!
Iconic line
He was Sully- the guy who Arnold Schwarzenegger dropped off of a cliff in "Commando."😂😂
CAN YOU DIG IT?!
The PS2 game is a hidden gem, and the Baseball Furies dont mess around
Yes!.
You always play as AJAX because he has the best fighting attributes.
Bought it from the PS Store a few years ago and I still go back and play it on the ps5 from time to time 🔥
facts.
Classic movie and game. I like the arcade game they put in it too when you complete all 18 missions.
It is one of the best most faithful game adaptations ever.
One of the most fun movies ever. Can you dig it!?
and it is based upon Xenophon!
CAAAAAAN UUUUUUUUU DIG ITTTTTTTT!!!!!
Yeah and I watched that film 3 times and it’s still so fun, never gets boring😌
Booker T stole dudes catchphrases
@@yasser3268 you need to bump those numbers up!
So the guy who played "Swan" had his career almost skyrocket after his role in this movie, but shortly after "The Warriors" he starred in "Xanadu," which for a long time was widely regarded as the worst movie of all time. The actor Michael Beck once said something like "The Warriors opened a lot of doors for me in film, which Xanadu then closed."
Yeah? That's a shame. I always wondered what happened to him since I don't recall ever seeing him in anything else.
He also starred in Wes Craven movie "Chiller". Its about a guy who wakes up from a 10 year coma. He has no soul.
And he starred in 'the last ninja'
He was on a TV show with the guy who played Eddie in Eddie and the Cruisers
Warrior Fox,who was thrown under the train, was played by actor Thomas Waites,he had some sort of conflict with the producers and was fired,so that's why he was killed off early, wasn't even mentioned in the ending credits.
My cousin Ginny Ortiz is actually in this movie. She plays the snack bar girl. In the script, David Patrick Kelly (Luther) was actually supposed to throw the candy bar at her face but he protested, saying he didn't feel comfortable throwing anything at a woman. So you'll notice, he actually throws it at the snack bar itself.
29:10
“Warriors! Come Out To Plaaaaayyyy.”
That’s the best part of the movie
The guy who said that line is David Patrick Kelly. He played The Cleaner in "John Wick."
@clarencewalker3925 Arnold Schwarzenegger dropped him off of a cliff in "Commando." His character's name was Sully. 😂😂
@@clarencewalker3925 was also t-bird in the crow
It's not the best part of the movie. It's not even the best line of the movie. That belongs to, "CAN YOU DIG IT!"
The whole "Come put to playyy" wasn't in the script, Kelly saw the bottles in the car and went from there.
1. When this came out many of the larger cities didn't run it. They were afraid it would lead to gang violence.
2. Late 70s soundtrack. 🤩
3. My favorite character is Luther. He's f-ing nuts.
4. Skates may look cool, but would suck in a fight.
5. "Warriors, come out to play" was ad lib. The director told David Patrick Kelly to come up with something menacing, and he looked back to when he was a kid and a creepy old neighbor used to torment the kids.
6. The girl with the flowers on the train at the end is Debra Winger. This was her first gig.
7. End it with Joe Walsh.
there was actually fights in the theater -- as gang members did go to see it and when they did, ran across rivals
They also had problems filming because real gangs mistook some of the film actors to be real gangs.@@hornorsilk2901
Also forgot the DJ, was the chief from "Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego" game show and the games. Also Ajax was played by James Remar, was in 48 hours and Dexter's dad from the show Dexter. This was his first gig too, or his big one.
That’s not Debra Winger. I just looked it up. It’s just an old wive’s tale..
RE #4: roller hockey was huge and we all fought on skates all the time, streets, schoolyards, wherever. I've seen guys get kicked in the face with roller skates. Not pretty! But none of us wore overalls in Brooklyn! lol
Not many know this, but this movie and the book it was based on are both based on Anabasis, an Ancient Greek work written by Xenophon, a professional Athenian soldier and writer. The Warriors are the Ten Thousand Greek mercenaries traveling home from the Persian Empire, and Cyrus is Cyrus the Younger, who the Greeks were there to support in his attempt to overthrow his brother Artaxerxes II. Cyrus gets assassinated and Anabasis documents the Greeks’ journey toward their final battle with the Persians, and their journey home.
A man of culture...
I appreciate this so much…thank you
They re-released this movie, much more recently, where they inserted comic-book still images at key moments in the film, with a narrator pointing out the ancient Greek origins of the story.
It's cringe. Breaks up some of the best scenes in the movie, for nothing. Terrible idea.
WELCOME TO A PERMANENT MEMORY.
When you hear “warriors” for the rest of your natural life you will entice them to come out to plaaaaayay!
Fun fact; The guy that shot Cyrus also plays Charlie the Cleaner in the first John Wick movie. You should play The Warriors video game. It gives a deeper history of Warrior's origins, the other gangs who are their allies and their enemies. There is also a new book out by Rob Ryder called "Purple Fury: Rumbling with the Warriors". He played the purple Baseball Fury as well as the really tall guy in the overalls. He started as a stunt coordinator and ended up in the movie. The book chronicles the making of the movie and all the crazy shit that happened in the process.
Didn’t know there was a video game. Gotta try it out
@@Jar0fMay0A phenomenal movie tie-in game. Dated by todays standards gameplay-wise, but worth.
@@Jar0fMay0 Yeah, it came out for PS2 in '05. You can still find it. I have it on my PS4. Would love to see an updated version but it's still fun to play. You get a history of the gang before the big meeting. Then it's like playing the movie.
He also played one of villain in Commando. He's the on Arnold promised to kill the last but lied
Holy smokes!
The reason the orphans are scared of the car explosion is because all their parents died in car explosions when they were kids
😂
Thanks. I always wondered how they got their name. They probably suffer from severe ptsd
LOL Not all of them. Most were just abandoned as children as well.
Bruh, got a promotion at work today and y’all are doing my favorite movie. Best. Friday. Ever.
Just a stranger from the shadows wanted to say Well done on the promotion and good luck for the future 😊
Congrats 👍
Kudos!
Congrats and best of luck!! 🙏🏽💯
Congratulations, man!👍
"Get that mime sh*t outta here, he better not make a sound when I punch him in the face." might be one of your all time best comments! God damn hilarious with perfect legit annoyance delivery.
"If you shoot a mime, should you use a silencer?" Stephen Wright RIP
The DJ is played by Lynne Thigpen. If you saw the kids show “Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?” then you know her as The Chief. I knew her first from the musical Godspell as well as knew that she was from my hometown, so I loved following her career and was saddened by her death. RIP Chief!
Holy shit. I have thought I recognized the voice for years, but never bothered to look it up. Glad you mentioned it!
She's also the moon in 'Bear in the Big Blue House.'
And the judge in Anger Management
I thought that it was Cool in "John Wick - Chapter 4" where they paid homage to her with that whole D.J. thing as he was being pursued by those contract Killers. I immediately recognized the reference to "The Warriors" & smiled.
She was on "The Electric Company" as well. Classic, beautiful voice to listen to!
That chase with the the Turnbull Acs will always by among the most intense, especially with the initial stalking in the distance. Played the game before I saw the movie myself, the gang clashes you can unleash are pure chaos and the spirit of the film is perfectly captured. Glad I still have my copy on OG XBOX.
I was working out of town when my wife called me and said "You're not going to believe this, but they turned your favorite movie into a video game". I couldn't wait to get home to play it.
You're not wrong! I remember feeling so on edge playing the game because it really felt like you had to run for your life lol the way the sprinting was handled made it feel so immersive
Oh hell yeah. I'm from Coney Island. We all love this movie!
Van Cortland Park to Coney by subway seems like a long friggin ride, especially when every gang in the city is looking to take you out..
Thank you guys for taking the time to watch this classic movie!
Fun fact: during filming, Thomas Waites got into an argument with the director severe enough that he was cut from the rest of the movie and killed off unceremoniously using a stunt double. If you notice, you never actually see Fox's face in the scene where he dies.
Another fun fact about Thomas Waites, he played Windows in The Thing
The full story is that Waites was supposed to be Mercy's love interest but during filming the director thought that the actor who played Swan had better chemistry with Mercy. So Waites's role was reduced which pisses him off. Waites admitted he handled the situation poorly by complaining a lot and fighting with the director, forcing the director to kick him off set and fire him.
It was so bad, he was even kicked out of the credits.
In a way it serviced the story by upping the stakes against the Warriors because he was the only witness to who shot Cyrus. Leaving you to wonder how they'd get out from under this cluster f**k.
@@ryanjacobson2508there was also something about Waites being termed as the next James Dean, the director had him watch rebel without a cause, and the river of Eden, he offered Waites a drink which Waites refused and the bad blood started there.
Young people today have no idea how dirty, dangerous and poor the 1970’s were. This movie is a fantastic representation of the dystopian cities and it has parallels to our current situation in 2024, with crime being excused away, and everyone falling further behind. We loved this movie as teens in 1979.
Especially New York City….and this is a guy from Chicago.
It depends on where you lived, i don't remember it being anymore dangerous than other decades
@@user-ho7ie1mx4t My dad was robbed at knifepoint back in the early 90s in New York City. He didn't have anything other than lint and his ID. They took his jacket though.
The murder rate peaked in the U.S. at this time (the 70s)
The murder rate in New York was 4 or 5 times higher than now (!)
It's an interesting contrast in this movie: The language, the outfits, the virtual absence of guns, makes it seem a little tame, even quaint, by today's standards, but the reality was practically a war zone compared to today.
@@GK-yi4xv This is true. I see often that older people say that although it looks abnormally violent, it isn't as bad as back then. I suppose that's due to social media. We are exposed to real world violence every single day in one form or another, so it seems far more bleak.
the "warriors, come out to play" line was spontaneous. He made that up on the fly. it wasnt in the script. Line became a iconic line. Just ask puff daddy and craig mack.
I didn't expect you to react to this, but I'm very grateful.
7:06 That Warrior (Fox) is Thomas Waites - Windows the radio guy from The Thing 😎 - and despite the amount of screentime he has being one of the good guys in the first half of the story, he wasn't even mentionned in the almost 100 cast names of the credits 🤯🤬
He asked for his name to be removed because he and the director had a falling out. That's why his character is killed off.
Movie fun fact. The guy with the bottles and the guy that gets handcuffed to the park bench are both in the movie "48 Hours" with Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte.
48 HRS. They NEED to see that!
Also directed by Walter Hill.
Yeah, 48 Hrs is a must watch!
And Ajax is the villain.
According to James Remar,Gaines in "48 Hrs" IS Ajax after he went through the prison system.
One of my all-time favorite movies...Thanks for reacting...When this one came out, everyone was talking about it.
That movie is a real gem. "The Warriors" is one of my favs. Luther, the crazy guy, is in several other movies, like "The Crow", "Commando", "48 Hours" (with Ajax and Rembrandt), or "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane" (you'd love that film). The DJ is referenced in "John Wick". Deborah VV is also in "Streets of Fire".
Oh! So you're the other guy that saw "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane." Always thought I was alone in the world.
@MrDanteMason it's one of my favorite movies ever !!... hit pay dirt with K Dirt
Sam the Sleasebag
"Sully, remember when I said I would kill you last? I LIED!" 😂😂😂 "Commmando"
Don’t forget he plays a fantastic psychopath in the movie, Dreamscape, with Dennis Quaid!
The actor who played Luther is David Patrick Kelly, he also appeared in the Crow as T-Bird.
He is also in 48 Hours with Nolte and Murphy
And as the clean up guy in the 1st John Wick
And he's Jerry Horne in Twin Peaks
one of my favorite scumbags. also in Commando & Dreamscape.
@@Taubi81Also directed by Walter Hill.
That song in the background of the DJ is "Echoes In My Mind" by The Mandrills. Genya Raven "Love Is A Fire" during The Lizzies scene.
Just in case if anyone was curious 😊
The Warriors. The best of the best of Coney Island.
Cult Classic! I remember when this movie came out everyone was saying CAN YOU DIG IT??!! and Warriors...come out and playyyyy aaaaa!😂😂😂😂
"I lnow they are following me. But now they know, that I know it."
Don't know why, but its one of my favorite lines.
My dad remembered when his local theater played it when he was 12 years old. There was so much actual gang violence during the screenings, the theatres screening the film set limits on how many times they played it during the week so they could keep the impact of damages brought on by real gang members to a minimal. There were, unfortunately, several murders, rapes and lootings during the said screenings. There was at least two arrests per screening at his local theatre alone. You should Check out the PS2 video game prequel/game. It is awesome on account that surviving actors reprise their roles and you learn more about the events leading up to the movie and then play out the movie itself! It rocks!
Also, the movie was shaping up to be a massive hit when the controversy about unruly audiences broke out, causing Paramount to cancel advertisements for the film and eventually pull it from theaters prematurely (back in the 70's, popular movies would get long theater runs and re-releases).
I saw this when I was really young. I couldn't stop saying, "Warriors, come out and play-a."
The chick on the radio is the Chief from Where in the World is Carmen San Diego
Shut up !!
This was always one of my favorite movies when I was younger. Watched it all the time. A classic. Still love it.
"Warriors come out to play" was improvised. The director thought it was perfect taunting and kept it.
One of my favorite movies ever. Just flows perfectly from beginning to end, and the last song during the credits fits so well. Glad you both enjoyed it!
Before the reaction even begins, I want to a big THANK YOU for watching this AWESOME CLASSIC that needs to be seen by everyone!!!!!
Went to New York just to walk the same route they did and got a t shirt in Coney Island 😅😅😅
Warriors.... come out to play!
Y'all have seen the "Come out to play" guys actor since you have watched "The Crow" and "The Longest Yard" but that is up to y'all to figure out which characters he played.
He also played the head of the cleaners in John Wick.
Also there is video game made by Rockstar Games for PS2 and XBOX based on the movie it's also great.
When we saw this in the movies everyone wanted to be a Warriorr, afterward. Later, while working as a field supervisor for the City of NY, I visited every stop on the Warriors venture back to Coney Island, from the Bronx. And the DJ was the venerable Lynne Thigpen .. the Chief in the Carmen San Diego series.
CAN YOU DIG IT??
This is a classic! Pleasantly surprised to see this reaction from you guys, right on 😁✌
I still love that John Wick 4 showed homage to this classic with the French DJ. Everything from Catdog, Archer, Puffy, Dave Chappelle showed this movie love.
So glad you guys finally watched this movie. Really enjoyed the reaction. Back in 1979-80 when I was 16. Our theater use to show The Warriors every Friday night at midnight. Next to Rocky Horror Pitcure show. Talk about a diverse crowd. Everyone would jump up cheering during the fight scenes. Good memories.
I love the fact that the guy who shot Cyrus was in John Wick as the clean up guy and in John WICK 4 they used the radio dj and song in Paris
He was also in the movie commando he plays sully the guy Arnold Schwarzenegger drops in the cliff
"You Warriors are good, real good". "The best". One of my favorite exchanges in over 50 years of watching movies. Also it's a Western.
Classic NY gang movie!
The Wanderers is a good one too!
Thats another gang movie filmed in 1979 in the Bronx.
WARRIORS was a movie that came out during a time when gangs were running rampant. The line "Warriors, come out to plaaay." is the 1st thing that pops into my mind when this movie is mentioned/when it's shown on TV. The crazy guy that shot Cyrus & pinned it on the Warriors is the actor David Patrick Kelly. A couple of things u might have seen him in & probably didn't recognize him are THE CROW & JOHN WICK. In THE CROW, he was the bad guy that got blown up in his car as it was launched into the river. In JOHN WICK, he was Charlie the Cleaner. U know, the guy John calls to remove the corpses from his house. Anyway, great reaction guys.😊👍
Yeah, 1978. During the late 70's, gang violence was quite large in society back then. I remembered people were lost in their ways due to drug addiction, brainwashing cult and public riots. This is one era I was not too fond of
That female radio DJ was the protester against joe Clarke in movie “lean on me”
How did this movie never win previous polls!? This is a first ballot HOF flick!
Marcelino Sanchez who played Rembrandt died in 1986 from Cancer related to AIDS.
“AJAX” is the guy who played HARRY, Dexters dad in the show *”DEXTER”* 🐐💪🏽
This movie was a staple of my childhood.. one of the movies me and my friends watched dozens of times together.
CAN YOU DIG IT?????
"Can you dig it!"
Fun Fact Theatrical movie debut of Deborah Van Valkenburgh, John Snyder, Pamela Poitier, and Iris Klein.
What Script Fact: David Patrick Kelly improvised Luther's "come out to play-ay" taunt, basing it on an intimidating neighbour of his.
Presidential Fan Fact: President Ronald Reagan was a fan of the film, even calling the film's lead actor, Michael Beck, to tell him he had screened it at Camp David and enjoyed it.
Historical Fact: Loosely based on Xenophon's "Anabasis" story, the account of an army of Greek mercenaries who, after aligning themselves with Cyrus the Younger in the battle of Cunaxa (401 BC) in his attempt to seize the Persian throne, found themselves isolated behind Persian enemy lines.
Authentic Battle Damage Fact: In one take, Michael Beck swings a bat into Deborah Van Valkenburgh's face (in the scene where he throws it at the cop). She was rushed to the hospital at 0300 local time for stitches and still has a scar. For the last shot in the film, where the vindicated Warriors and Mercy walk away along the Coney Island shoreline as the sun rises, Michael Beck and Deborah Van Valkenburgh were not told when to stop walking. Van Valkenburgh became irritated because they noticed they had reached a point where they were out of the cameras' ranges. But when they went back, they found out that the cast and crew had done this so they could bring out a huge bouquet of roses which they then presented to a surprised Van Valkenburgh.
That's a great action movie. One of Walter Hill's Best movie. 1979 for Walter Hill was a great year. Not just for The Warriors, but also he co-wrote the final draft of the script and producing for ALIEN.
I was literally saying i need a Warriors reaction 😅😅. Thanks for this gentlemen 😊.
COOL REACTION GUYS! THE DUDE THAT SHOT SIRUS IS THE SAME DUDE THAT KILLED "CARETAKER" IN "THE LONGEST YARD". HE'S ALSO "T-BIRD" FROM "THE CROW". HES A LEGEND.
My very first movie at a theater and my all-time favorite. I've seen this movie so many times I know everybody's lines by heart . You guys reaction was a lot of fun I enjoyed that. And you're right about the soundtrack and the score 🔥
The dude who got arrested was played by James Remar, aka Raiden from the Mortal Kombat 2 movie, as well as a fed in 2 Fast 2 Furious!
And Dexter's adoptive father Harry.
and Alfred Ganz from 48 hrs
He was on Sex in the City for several episodes as Samantha's boyfriend
The actor who says "Come out to play" was also in John Wick as the head clean-up crew guy. Also, fun fact one of the Warriors became a NY state trooper later in life - the one who played Snow.
He also played sully in Commando, and T-Bird in The Crow.
He’s also in The Longest Yard Adam sander remake
@@s.l.sixgaming2154 yes yes In Commando Matrix let him go 😊
And the guy who played Vermin (Terry Michos) went on to become a news anchor.
Yes! The warriors!
FUN FACT: This movie is a modern retelling of an ACTUAL EVENT IN ANCIENT HISTORY THAT WAS WAY BIGGER. Instead of one city, the journey went from what's now Iran all the way to the northwestern tip of Turkey, and took years. 10,000 Greek mercenaries in the middle of enemy territory, on the opposite side of the known world from home, walk across deserts, over mountains, passing through multiple countries full of people that wanted them dead... and 6000 of them--a staggering number, considering the distance--made it home alive.
I love how this movie is referenced in John Wick chapter 4.
I watch this one about every six months, just a great film, a great retelling of The Odyssey.
I think it was inspired more by Xenophon and the ten thousand soldiers that were stranded and had to fight their way home from Persia
I was born and raised in NYC. My childhood was in the 80s, and this movie took me back to those days when we used to go to Coney Island. I also remember the trains the way it was in the movies. It is so nostalgic!
This movie is tough In John Wick 4, the lady on the radio that saying where John is going. They got that from this movie
Yes I noticed that too
I loved the tribute to The Good The Bad and The Ugly in John Wick chapter 3.
CAAAAN YOOOU DIG IT!?
You guys make my day. I was feeling kind of depressed today but then I saw your link in YT and been TW one my favs of all time I´ll dig in and oh, boy it was worthy. Kudos to both of you!!!
One of the BEST movies ever! Saw it first when it was released, saw it now over 100 times (closer to 125)
@OctoKrool one of my favorite films from one of my favorite directors.... also had a fun PS2 or PS3 game made from it ( can not remember) from rockstar which was good too. Fun watch, was fun to see you both enjoy this
Fun fact- Luther the one that shot Cyrus. That actor was the shirty prisoner Unger in The Longest Yard that is a snitch to the guards.
Classic movie ❤
I half expected the opening scene from this video to be "warriors....... COME OUT TO PLAAAY!!!!"
This is an amazing flick that I think a lot of people sleep on. The video game by Rockstar was pretty good too.
One of My favorite movies. Glad you guys did this 1. Baseball Furries, Riffs, Sirius, Ajax also played in 48hrs with Eddie Murphy ...oh yeah!
The "Warriors, come out to play" actor is in "Dreamscape, The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, Commando, The Crow" and the "John Wick" movies.
I'm so glad you reacted to one my favorite and my classic movies ever! I loved watching this movie ever since my dad showed me, and he's also from Brooklyn!
The clanking of the bottles & "song" is an iconic scene. It used to get referenced all the time in comedies. The movie is a classic, hopefully at some point you'll react to Break'N or Krush Groove. Awesome review of The Warriors movie, keep up the great work 👍🏾 👏🏾
The Wanderers is another iconic gang movie (60s NY). Would love to see you guys doing a reaction vid on this gem.
I made the connection when watching John Wick 4 when the original version of this song played, that the last 30 minutes or so was an homage to The Warriors. Love this 70s classic
Finally ! Glad you guys liked it, one of my favorites from childhood. Swan was so cool.
and one hell of a great soundtrack.
My youngest brother still sings the, "Warriors, come out to play". And we watched it when it just came out. Lol. 😅😅😅😅
This movie was great in 79 and it is still great to watch today! Thanks guys.
Purple waistcoats = boppers
Mimes = hi hats
Chinese = savage huns
Sky blue jackets = moonrunners
Yellow jacket = electric eliminators
Black vests with white trim = Jones St boys.
Overalls = punks
When I was younger I would always sit down and watch this when it came on TNT. Damn good film.
Loved your reaction. The bit with the bottles was one of the most quoted lines form this movie. There are s few others.
Stay around this time frame with movies like The Bad News Bears, Arthur, Seems Like Old Times, Ordinary People and 9-5.
Wonderful suprise, this film and game made me who i am.
I came across both while going through a rough patch in my life, they helped me beat addiction and i will always hold them close to my heart. So glad you enjoyed it.
You can take the Warrior out of the War but you can't take the War out of the Warrior! ✌
I couldn't get enough of this movie growing up, thanks for another banger. Got to check out "The Legend of Billie Jean" and of course "Mom and Dad Save the World", "The Game", "Homeward Bound", maybe "The Guyver" or "Legend". There's a lot of awesome movies out there and you guys really appreciate a good film, thank you for the time you put in for us all.
Rockstar Games even made a game based on this cult classic hit.
such a great movie, always neat to see some actors in their younger years doing stuff like James remar and david kelly (last thing you guys saw with him was the cleaners from john wick I think)
This one has definitely grown on me. I love how NYC gangs were depicted in 1979. They all had a theme like we all wear vests and no shirt, or we wear roller skates:) the action is pretty decent and I love the Joe Walsh song to cap it off:) Good times:)
Fun fact : the dude who does the "Warriors come out to play" bit is also the same actor that plays Sully in "Commando"
You need to watch Team America: World Police and also Tropic Thunder.
Classic movie 🎥
Love LOVE this silly movie! The music, the physically of running and fighting, the colorfullness, the theatrically of their poses and their delivery, the indenuity of introducing the DJ., and crazy NY of the seventies (i wasn't born yet). I also love the fact that the movie leads you into believing it's going to be about Cyrus and the meet, and then giving you the movie about their escape after the meet.
Octokrool, Y'all would love the game even more. I played the game and watched the movies too many times, and it's still one of my FAVS.
the video game of this movie acts like a prequel so you can see the events before the movie plus backstories on each of the gang members, it's a fun game, check it out
