Boegoeberg - Ep2 - The Climb to Kliphuis

On this trip we visited Boegoeberg to go camping high in the mountains with our brand new rooftop tent for the first time. Boegoeberg is close to Clanwilliam in the heart of the main Rooibos Tea producing area in South Africa.
Frikkie joined us on this trip :-D
Our experience is presented in four videos, with each having a distinct focus:
Ep1: The road to Boegoeberg, tour of the Rooibos Tea harvesting and processing on the farm and a visit to the beautiful Boegoeberg main campsite on the farm (with very welcome swim in the sublime swimming pool).
Ep2: Driving the demanding Boegoeberg 4x4 trail up the mountain to the Kliphuis campsite. Please fasten your seatbelt! This mountain road was hectic and had our hearts beating well above normal, but what a thrill.
Ep3: Setting up camp at Kliphuis campsite with our new Eezi-Awn Jazz rooftop tent and relaxing by drinking in the spectacular beauty of the surrounding area and enjoying the evening braai.
Ep4: Waking up the next morning at Kliphuis campsite to a delightful show of ever changing mist around us. We also take you with us on our exciting descent from Kliphuis on the Boegoeberg 4x4 trail.

Hi Priscilla, yes! It was certainly worse than we expected! 😀
That road wasn’t a road, neither was it a track! It was a worst nightmare! 😳
You were so restrained, Annelie ~ my husband would have had to put up with a banshee, because I would most assuredly have been anticipating my impending ‘death by road’ 🫣
And, yes, Werner. Your trusty Toyota certainly passed the test of a lifetime, with flying colours. Any vehicle of a lesser constitution would have died a jolting death.
You should have been paid to be a guest at that campsite 😁 I must hasten to add that once you were finally, safely there, you wasted no time in setting yourselves up to enjoy the view, tranquility, uplifting birdsong and delicious Terbodore ☕️ - I bet it tasted better than ever after that incredibly challenging hour and a bit tackling that ‘heart-in-mouth’ route to get there.
Little Frikkie captured my heart with his enthusiastic bounding, as he immediately set off on his own little exploratory adventure. I did miss Mia, though 😊

There was some serious uptick of heart rates for both of us on this journey... but all the work is really done by the car 🙂 I remain amazed of what conditions it can handle, sometimes I seriously doubt whether it will clear an obstacle and more often than not it does it much easier than expected...
The 'road' experience did make the arrival at the beautiful Kliphuis campsite very special though, it was very easy to kick into 'relax mode' very quickly, and all of this has to start with good coffee! 😂
Well, Frikkie seemed to take everything in his stride, he loves exploring new places and Kliphuis must have felt like dog heaven to him!
There are two more episodes to come on our Kliphuis experience. I can confirm that Mia is ready to join us on our next camping trip 😉

Hi Des you’re comments made me laugh😂….Werner graciously edited out the banshee bits😊😅it was truly scary for me and going down was way worse! We are not 4x4 junkies and would definately not seek out roads like that….but the camp and surroundings did make up for the drive….I might even go again😊 hope you have a lovely evening, always so nice to hear from you

Notice you both dont wear a seatbelt. No hard to be ejected and crushed on a simple off road rollover.
Also saw afterwards that Frikkie had a bit of a narrow escape! 😂

Oh my gosh guys! 😮 I'm so glad you survived! Werner, you are totally superman with your driving skills! And high five to Annelie for also trying a bit of death defying driving 😅 I would have been saying a lot more than "sherbert" and "genade" 😂 That was honestly terrifying! You should actually see if you can get some kind of endorsement deal with Toyota Fortuner 😅 You are doing very good advertising for them lol Maybe they'd give you a free service plan or something 😊

😂Kate, that road was nuts! We definitely also prefer a little less hectic driving😅 I drove only a small bit, Werner did all the stunt driving😂….luckily the camp site and stillness of the mountains was truly soothing to my frayed nerves….and I can confirm that driving down was even more scary😳! Hope you have a lovely evening

Mmm... yes, I had to do some delicate editing amongst some of the utterings made on that road to stay at an acceptable standard for CZcams in this video 🤣🤣 I agree, I should have that chat with Toyota! Not shabby at all for a +15 year old Fortuner 😎

I can confirm that we made it back down safely 😬, Annelie thinks that was worse than driving up. Look out for Ep4 to see this...

That would have been my strategy! Unless I’d already expired from sheer fear earlier on in the uphill journey!

Dankie! Ja, die pad was rowwer as wat die video wys, dit was veral baie styl gewees op plekke, maar ek dink tog die gevoel kom deur op die video 😀
Baie mooi Rooibos tee wêreld...
Ja, die drone kan tracking doen, dit help baie, maar ons vlieg dit ook self terwyl dit track en ook soms sonder enige tracking. Ons het 'n DJI Mini 3 Pro. Dit bly maar moeilik om die drone footage egalig te kry.
Ek het gemerk daar was nie drone footage in jou video nie, is dit nog bietjie stukkend?

Die video is van 'n vorige besoek, (kom uit die argiewe...) ek het nie toe die drone by my gehad nie.
