    The drive cable connects the handle drive control lever to the transmission and engages the transmission to move the mower when you pull the drive lever up. Replace the drive cable if it's broken or frozen up inside the sheath and your lawn mower won’t move. Let the engine cool. Wear work gloves to protect your hands. Now, let’s get started. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug. Pivot the cable clip up and release it from the mower handle. Release the zone control cable from the bail control bar. Release the drive cable from the drive control lever. Depress the release tabs and pull the zone control cable out of the drive cable clip. Cut the cable ties that secure the cables to the mower handle. Remove the fuel tank cap. Place a plastic sandwich bag over the fuel tank opening and reinstall the fuel tank cap to prevent gasoline from leaking out through the fuel cap vent. Tilt the mower back to lift the front wheels then secure the mower handle to your worktable to hold the mower steady as you remove bottom-mounting screws. Remove the bottom drive cover mounting screws. Release the mower handle from the worktable and carefully lower the mower to the upright position. Remove the top drive cover mounting screws. Release the height adjuster lever and pull the drive cover off. Remove the drive cable end from the anchor post. Depress the release tabs and pull the drive cable sheath out of the transmission lever. Remove the drive cable. Attach the drive cable end to the anchor post. Pull the drive cable sheath into the transmission lever. Put the drive cover in position on the mower and re-engage the height adjuster lever. Reinstall the drive cover’s top-mounting screws. Tilt the mower back to lift the front wheels then secure the mower handle to your worktable. Reinstall the drive cover’s bottom-mounting screws. Release the mower handle from the worktable and tilt the mower upright. Remove the plastic bag from the fuel tank opening and reinstall the fuel tank cap. Route the drive cable around the right side of the engine and connect the zone control cable to the drive cable clip. Reconnect the zone control cable to the bail control bar. Connect the drive cable to the drive control lever. Snap the drive cable clip back into the mower handle. Install new cable ties to hold the cables against the mower handle. Trim the ends of the cable ties. Reconnect the spark plug wire to the spark plug.

    LOLOLOL Amazing video! And I did all the 'taking out of the screws' and then realized that my craftsman must be newer, there is now just a little door to pop off on top. So I put all the screws back in...thankfully I had them labeled! But I appreciate your video, because this is really such a simple repair.

    Perfect, thank you for the precise directions. I forgot to anchor the drive cable when installing the new cable!! You're video reminded me to do that! Although, I have a complaint about the plastic piece that broke causing me to have to replace the drive cable. It's the plastic nub that goes into the mower handle. I barely bumped the handle on a wooden playset, and it snapped! Seems pretty cheaply made, I would think a metal pin or bolt and nut would last longer. Just a thought.

      We’re glad to hear that the video helped you. We understand your concern about the plastic anchor for that drive cable that attaches it to the mower handle. Thank you for bringing that issue to our attention. We’ve forwarded your comment to our product engineer for action.

    These cables wear out faster then people think. So do the drive belts. If it starts slipping its time to hit the work bench....

    Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower czcams.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.

      The part number for that drive cable is 946-04728A. Here's a link for that part: www.searspartsdirect.com/product/2w6xqqfu06-0071-247/id-946-04728a

    Is it possible to just replace the drive cable....i can't remove just the drive cable from the bracket....i can only remove the stop cable not the drive cable from the bracket

    • @searspartsdirect
      @searspartsdirect  Před 5 lety

      The drive cable shown in this video includes the bracket, which is permanently attached to the cable. If you can’t remove the drive cable from the bracket on your mower, then the replacement drive cable may also include the bracket. Check the replacement drive cable for your model of mower and see if it includes the bracket. If you need more help, let us know the model number of your mower and we’ll try to assist you further.

      We'll need the model number of your mower to help you find the right drive cable. The model number is often on the back flap that covers the bagger discharge port on that type of mower. Let us know the model number and we'll help you find the part.

      @searspartsdirect  Před 4 lety

      @@C000DY Thanks for providing the model number but that's the model number for the engine. The parts for the mower are listed separately from the engine parts so we still need the model number of the mower to help you find the right part. Look for a model number sticker that isn't on the engine. The model number for the mower is often on the back of the mower deck or possibly on the handle.
