Emma, I'm 79 years old. I lost my beautiful wife of 25 yrs. 9 years ago when she was only 60 and I've been living alone ever since. I watch a lot of CZcams, and can truthfully say that this is the best thing that I've ever come across! You sitting alone, singing and playing the ukulele in the middle of the Atlantic ocean really got to me, it was so beautiful! You are one fascinating lady! Thank You, Best of luck to you and the new baby!.....Much love from Minnesota, USA
Blessings to you, OldBuckle. Minnesota has become my home in retirement and I find it comforting as I sing and play flute on the porch looking into the deep woods. Hoping you are finding joy in the everyday.
OldBuckle, I haven't watched a movie in a long time. Almost didn't watch this, but your comment drew me. It was worthwhile. Thank God Emma made it safely back. I think we can have a slow pace if we choose. God bless all y'all. Christina
@@jamigaither Thanks Jami, Check out Herbie Mann- Commin Home Baby. My favorite flute music.
I love this video! Thank you for sharing your nice words @oldBuckle
@@luigimarialuna648 You are very welcome Luigi, Best of Luck to you!
As a circumnavigator I find all the sailing videos( except a few)abit boring following a “ clickbait” formula. So when I happened upon this documentary I watched it to the end as it captures the philosophy of artificial adventure that we have to create today.I know what it’s like to sail in Gale / storm conditions as well as the doldrums( which we motored through which is the smart thing to do if you can) so for her to do this in a minimally equipped and older boat is inspiring. To control your mind and body to deal with adversity, fear, danger and Mother Nature is the real feat and this young BRAVE woman Did a great job. I will pass this one on to my sailing friends who will understand!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Brilliant. I so loved this video. My longest at sea was 71 days so I know what its like. An inspiring film.
That's incredible. Nice! 💚
Interesting to see you watching other notable videos Barry. Hope you are well and enjoying your 'Cook's Tour' (so to speak, though not entirely accurate as you do spend time in some lovely places).
Wow! Old sea dog 71 days! Jesus.
I am a sailor, crossed North Atlantic 6 times, twice solo, 28 days as longest passage. Thank you Emma for sharing your story. You definitely are an exceptional person. 😎😘
I did my solo Atlantic crossing in 1986 on my Beneteau 456 from Portsmouth England to Antigua when I was 26. Royalties from my first book paid for the boat and royalties from my second book paid for 3 years cruising the Caribbean and USA East Coast. Wonderful time. I am 65 now and stopped solo racing a couple of years ago but what I learned being alone on the boat changed my life - a magical time and I am so happy I did this. I had never sailed more than 200 miles solo before the crossing.
💚
I will look for your books
..my best to you & your paths..Canyon
I am a sailor, as well as have ocean crossing experiences. The levels of emotions reflected in this short film brought tears to my eyes. Absolutely beautiful and spot on🤙. Thank you
Wonderful!
This is a lovely video.
20:14 I know EXACTLY how you felt. Let me tell you a story.
It was the summer of 1975, I was just 17, and hitchhiking through Europe (I'm from Canada). I was by myself. I had next to no money. Not sure where I was going to stay most nights. I was on the autobahn outside Hamburg, and it was pissing down rain, and I was getting NO lifts. None, nothing. Four hours I stood there, in the rain. No one was stopping to pick me up. I began to get really annoyed and upset with myself for being there, and depressed, and I was imagining what my friends back home were up to -working summer jobs, dating, partying, etc. "And here I am," I thought, "on on some fucking highway miles outside Hamburg, hitchhiking in pissing cold rain." and feeling so down. And then, literally, as though a light bulb went on, I said to myself "Yeah, it's pissing rain, and here I am on an autobahn in Germany, but I'm not working some shitty summer job, and I'm only 17, and I'm hitchhiking through Europe, and I'm taking care of myself, and none of my friends are doing anything even close to this. This is fucking awesome." And just like that, in 30 seconds it went from being shitty to fabulous...it's all a matter of perspective and perception. One of the best moments of my life, it was literally the length of that thought when I went from being a child to adulthood.
And about 5 minutes after that someone stopped and I got a lift...
Thank you. Beautiful story!
Only one life , we try to do the best , one life is a journey, a wonderful journey. Sorry for my english..
A beautiful film. Thank you Emma. So nice to see a human being express openness, loneliness, and vulnerability with such eloquence and fortitude 🙏
I'm 71 and had a romp of a life but I can't remember being moved so unexpectedly and deeply. And I don't know why. What an extraordinary piece.
I
Thank you so much for those words!
@@campfire-stories Deeply felt. At this very moment a survey is being made of a 1979 Sweden Yachts C34, which I am in the process of buying with my son Carl. After some refitting we plan to sail it from Hamble to Figeira da Foz in Portugal in June with my wife. It is my first sailboat. We have crewed from Azores to Gibraltar and from the Algarve to Madeira some years ago so please wish us luck!
Hugs, Cliff
@@cliffingram270 What an adventure! Best of luck!
I've watched hundreds of sailing videos, but none has explored so well the extreme range of emotions felt by the solo sailor. It was moving and thought provoking. Well done and thank you to those involved in the production.
Thank you so much for these words.
Wow, what a gift to the world this film is. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Wow, inspirational. I have felt the STRONG urge to sail for the last 2 years or so. I need it;
I know, me too. After reading "Sailing alone around the world" by Joshua Slocum I was obsessed with the idea. Alas, I know nothing about sailing. But was thrilled to instead be offered the opportunity to make a film about the topic.
I'm sorry that my english is not good enough to explane what I feel..... But... you get all my respect....
This planet needs more person like you..... I need more person like you....
Emma, thank you for this film you made, it was magical, the atmosphere, yr play&sing, slowing down the time. Simple, true, great. Fair Winds ⛵
Glad you enjoyed it!
Probably my-film-of-the-year (usually it's only a book) - worth slowing down enough to take in two or three viewings. Naunced. Haunting. Depth over speed!
Beautiful. Thank you.
gem of a person who has found beauty.
💚
Such a beautiful and well told story! Congrats to everyone involved :)
Åh vilken historia, oj vilken kvinna. Du är en modern Pippi Långstrump!
I wonder if she can inspire other women to be bright, strong, inquisitive, courageous, thoughtful, articulate, indomitable, and enduring like her.
Mattias, this is such a profound film. I am humbled by the emotions that is has left me with and find that it has touched on a deep ache inside to seek out my own "quiet". I suspect that in "slowing down time" you find how to finally be within each moment and within that everything changes... As always, deep gratitude for your work and the humanity that it reveals. Take care.
Thank you so much for these words!
Greetings from Germany. Wow! What a fantastic journey. You will have stories to tell your children and grandchildren. Stay beautiful.
wonderful ! well done ! some people get seasick. I am getting landsick when I see this. Bernard Moitessier .. what a great inspiration. I read his books in the 80s and 90s already … keep it going !! sail on, sailor !👍
Hi Emma. I’m a long distance sailor, writer and film maker. I thoroughly enjoyed your account of being alone on this voyage. I especially appreciate the honesty of your storytelling; a very refreshing change from all the ‘blue sky’ narcissistic stuff people upload about sailing.
Watching videos like this puts life into perspective.
🧡
I've been inspired to linger here. I had faster plans for the evening, but they were foolish compared to this. What a blessing, in retrospect, that the engine was lost. Engines, those witless smoky things that chant little but doom doom doom endlessly, fouling the air and our minds and our senses. I thought that when our heroine lost the engine on the far isle she ought to leave the beast there, but then I understood what a curse it would be to those people. Bad if the engine didn't work, and worse if it did.
🧡
What a fantastic story and story teller. Thank you
Thank you!
Hello Emma, really strong and emotional! I love it! The Best for you all! Marcello
Full of wisdom in simple words and in between. I often felt a lot of joy and gratitude for Emma being on that journey. Much appreciation for the journey and the film! It was nourishing to watch.
Not a film, but a life story with sensibility and love. Sensibility in each moment, in each breath. At all little things we see the life as a great gift. Love, in each thought that takes your spirit at a superior plane of life. Congrats, Emma! You are blessed. I loved it.
Wonderful video.
What a woman.
So skilled.
Thank you for sharing your trip.
💚
Beautiful. Thank you for producing this film together and sharing.
Emma, this is so wonderful, thank you!!
At the time i followed your descriptions of you travels, and was in awe (as well as a little jeaulous).
After the Zeitouna i took up sailing, after the short time sailing with you on Caprice (so lovely to see how well she sails) in Sweden, i got my own boat.
You were an inspiration then as well as now. Thank you so much!!!
And enjoy motherhood!
You seem to manage the storms and the loss of your engine fearlessly. Fantastic adventure.
Thanks Peter! 💚
Thank you for presenting Emma’s quest. Just wonderful. Her journey left me basking in the profound teaching that arose from the loss of Caprice’s engine, Emma’s confrontation with the doldrums, her enhanced appreciation of resources that grew from scarcity; a renewed relationship with her experience of being social. Fabulous journey of the mind, body & soul. It helps me remember that I am free to resist temptations to be hyper-cautious. Risk does have its rewards. ~ Also, the Stephen Jenkinson content gave this film even more meaning & depth; I love where his mind takes me.
In a smaller way I too have down-shifted my life. In 2017 I gave up the fast-paced lifestyle of commuting & the stress of a long law firm career - in favor of practicing just “staying” and diving deep into all the oodles of small things in which I find enjoyment & that whet my natural curiosity. No news or TV in our home=enhanced freedom of thought. Communing with our young dog & elder cat (plus many wild critters) is beyond satisfying. 💝
I love that. Thanks Martha! 💚
Thank you for showing the realities of sail life, the good and not so good. As a new sailor myself, your honesty has been very refreshing and uplifting. Thank you.
Brilliant simply brilliant in every aspect. How many life lessons within this video, how much inspiration and pause for thought, to look deeper inside.
Well that was excellent showing all of the emotions a single sailor can go through.
Loved it ..
💚
Beautiful history. I don't have anyone who has anything to do with the sea, and yet since I was a child I've wanted to be a sailor and I dream of one day being able to sail like that too. Congratulations for transmitting the beauty of the adventure of sailing.
I repeated this documentary more than 4 time is the most beautiful documentary i watched in my life how you can you can travel alone and crossing the pceans that's a really unbelievable
Thank you so much! 💚
Thank you for an inspiring story, so beautifully done.

That was just what I needed! Feeling slower and calmer now! Such a gorgeous film!! Thank you!

This is an outstanding peace of art you created! I’m just on my way to start my own journey, and this inspires me so much. Thanks a lot!
Thank you so much! 💚
WOW! well done you! Such an inspiration! Alone with all those doubts you must have had. Thank you and so inspiring. Keep going!
🧡
Started to watch this in between doing things, but have stopped for now as this video deserves one's absolute attention to truly enjoy it. Back this evening!
One of the finest sailing documentaries I've ever seen. And I've watched a lot over the years! What a wonderful adventure.
Wow, thank you so much Chris!
I can't put into words how much I enjoyed this, touched me deep in my soul. Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. Your singing wa so beautiful too.
🧡
I'm full of admiration for your epic journey alone. Fantastic video and excellent music. Well done!
Thank you very much!
I was wishing I was on this trip with Emma, but this enjoyable video is the next best thing! Thanks for sharing!
Wow! Such a nice story!
Best sailing documentary since Chasing Bubbles.
Thanks you!
I was watching another sailing film & I was just falling asleep even though I really enjoy watching Sailing on CZcams & then your film came up & thought to myself I must take a look at this. I loved watching this & especially your songs. You have a lovely voice & you are also so brave most people would have quit when their engine broke, but you made it all the way home. 🏅brilliant. Well done you.
Thanks Steven! Lovely!
I find your description of wanting to explore solitude much like my own. I hiked into the bush of Alaska and spent 3 years with just me and my dog. I didn’t really miss people but did enjoy their company when with others. I just hadn’t heard someone else describe it similarly. Happy Trails.
💚
Beautiful story just beautiful , don't know how else to describe it.
This was a spectacular journey. Thank you for sharing ♥️!
Glad you enjoyed it! 💚
I just watched this again, the best Solo sale video I have seen. So well done, beautiful person, she shares the heart and soul of every sailor. So cute in the doldrums up on the top telling and singing to the wind to come and blow 🌬️ 😂 such a sweet person. Thank you ❤️
Wow, thank you!
Wonderful film. You should be very proud of yourself for taking on such a challenge. Very few people will do such a journey, let alone by themselves. Having a loving and supportive family and friends makes the journey that much more fulfilling to come home to. Well done!
Thank you so much LG!
I cried for her. I'm thinking of teaching myself how to sail and doing this when I have enough money to buy a boat. Thank you for this video, as it is a huge encouragement for women and people from everywhere.
Love from Warsaw
So beautiful and inspiring. Thank you. This has touched me in so many ways. I felt the spectrum of emotions. Beautifully portrayed and documented. Best of luck, safe travels and many blessings abound. ✨
Thank you so much! 💚
What a wonderful journey. I too dealt with quite a bit of engine failure (water getting into my fuel tank in the keel). But you are so correct that learning to sail onward with no engine is a powerful experience. We left Bermuda and lost our engine. We only had to endure a couple of days with no wind. Then the absolute joy when the winds came. We blasted all the way to the Virgin Islands.
💚
Emma, I am impressed with your bravery! You are an extraordinary woman, I can't believe what you have done! You have managed to achieve your dreams and inspire other women to achieve theirs!
Congratulations, for your courage and for your baby, may GOD protect you enormously!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful trajectory with us!
Ah, I am Brazilian, I live in England and I am planning to sail with my husband to Brazil.
💚
What a poetic and beautiful film. I greatly admire your courage for undertaking such a voyage, solo. Very moving and memorable, compared to all the other sailing videos on CZcams. Thank you. 🙏
Thank you so much!
As a sailor ,this was the most enjoyable of all those sailing videos out there ,such emotions and what a brave strong and talented sailor.
Thank you so much!
Very beautiful and moving video - one of the best on CZcams. As a sailor/writer/composer, I mainly wish for silence and slow time, but it rarely happens; it’s a constant struggle - unless you make it happen. She did, and gloriously so. Congratulations on the baby. He/she will experience things most human beings will never experience because his mother (maybe father) understands…
💚
A remarkable journey! So well produced! Continued success in all your adventures!
💚
I am deeply impressed, that level of energy, willingness, courage. And what a nice film, told with sensations, whata story! Thank you.
Wow, thank you! 💚
Respect. This is all about sailing... Really inspiring !
💚
I so enjoyed sharing some of your experiences - thank you. We are aiming to cross the Atlantic and it is so inspiring to see your journey. Loved the music and poetry, really impressed with your Uke playing - I am learning so now have something to aim for.
🧡
Such a great story Emma . You should be very proud of your achievement .
Had a tear there at one point. Brilliant if you can get that out of me I salute you . All the best raising Your child .

This is absolutely beautiful. Thank you.
Thank you Courtney!
What a beautiful great story. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Raphael!
She really did say at the beginning that basically she sailed one day alone. In other words she goes from sailing one day alone to 164 days alone. Whoah.
🧡
You are an inspiration. Bravo!

Just wow !
Was sailing for 6 years with my partner and the last yesr with pur first child. Unbelivable memories - your film just hit me in the right way 😍 all the best for you

Wonderful, thank you so much. As I get older, slowing down time becomes even more important, as it rushes on. Lovely playing and singing. All the best in your new life as a mother.

Wonderful, I really enjoyed watching your journey and hearing your nice singing voice and calm story telling. Greetings from a Norwegian sailor
💚
I came back to say this is one of my most favorite videos ever.
You have no idea how many times over the last 10 months that I've talked to others about it, or shared it.
Thank you so much DreamGyrl. That means a lot!
I think you would like to see Kiana's Atlantic crossing video.
She's sailing on a Wharram catamaran.
@@charonstyxferryman how do I find it?
WOW So gorgeous is this tale, a story deeper than the ocean sailed, broader than the vistas viewed, tempered by courage, honesty, and deep personal inquiry! LOVED IT, THANK YOU.
Thank you!

She flies over the Iberian Abyssal Plain. That's some mythic poetry right there.
Nice that you caught that!
Brilliant, and inspiring thank you .
I love your guitar playing, fingerpicking and singing. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us! 🙏🏼💚🙏🏼
I also was moved by your film. I have never been on sea, but I am a drifter on the Dutch rivers for 3 years now. Not as remote, but I go slow and solo. Thank you for touching my heart ♥️
Very cool! 💚 Thanks Martine!
You're one in a million, Emma. You have so much courage and mental toughness and the shots of you going aloft in a swell without even the benefit of a bosun's chair, just blew me away. It's something I could never do as my fear of heights has steadily increased as I age. I'm not ashamed to say you brought a tear to my eye as your composure slipped when you crossed the Equator. In short, I think you are amazing.
💚
May both of your voyages through this life continue with much joy.
Thank you 💚
what a beautiful video, very touching.Emma looks to be one person to have near, great one Thank you so much for sharing.
