I've just discovered your channel while trying to figure out what the hell I'm going to do about my repointing job, and I'm binge watching everything. The main thing I've learned is that I probably need to find a specialist in my neck of the woods 🤷‍♂️
Anyway, thank you for the great videos.

It's a nightmare mate cleaning the staines off after
takes as long as taking the strap pointing off

I agree strap pointing is an eye sore. Can I ask how far back you take out the old lime? Spent 6 hours getting the cement out of the brick work yesterday. The gaps between the stone are quite big some the size of my hand once the cement was gone. I’ve got some old stone to put in the big voids though

About 30 40 mm normally on walls like this
But I put loads of stones and slate in the voids with lime
So I knock all the cement off
Then I take the old lime out
Then I backfill all the voids with lime small stones and slate
Then top that off with lime
      Leave it 20 mm shy
      The next day
Keep wetting the walls so it doesn't shrink or crack
      Then finish the last 20mm
Cover with hessian and keep damp as long as you can
7 days in the heat of the summer
If you need me to talk you through your project
Send me a whattsapp or I can show you at your property if needed

Hi, sorry to bother you on a bank holiday but have a question. Pointing is going well ( very much to my suprise!). They cemented about a two inch strip around the window reveal, against the upvc. Is it ok to remove this and fill the gap with lime??

    • @GMTpointingspecialistsltd
      @GMTpointingspecialistsltd  Před 4 měsíci +1

Yes you can do but if its in full sun it may fail
build it from the bottom up you could ad a cup of hydrated lime to your mix to make it a bit more sticky
Or use a burnt sand mastic and cover it with a 2 inch plastic trim
If it doesn't look out of place
