To honor the late Actors and Production staff of the TV series Space:1999, this video was created for the closing ceremonies of the Alpha:2012 convention held September 2012 in Burbank, California.
I feel so old now. I never stopped loving this series. I watched these glued to the TV as a kid. My Dad and I would never miss them. My Dad is still alive at almost 81. Maybe we will watch them again.
I remember the show very fondly because it was believable and not cheesy looking like lost in space. Visual effects were on par with Star Wars circa 1977. The original theme had tension in it that complimented the opening narrative. There were 3 toys I craved as a kid but were too expensive for my parents. The life support packs were made into a transmitter and receiver walkie talkie like unit. Each pack was 49.95 which in 1977 was alot of money for 1 toy, and you needed 2 units to communicate. There was also a model of the Eagle 1 spacecraft. A fake handheld communicator and handgun set was around $29.95. I cant be sure but I thought there was a moonbase Alpha model. Martin Landau played the commander role very well and sometimes overdone like Shatner. Barbara Bain was his doctor mccoy without the dramatic sayings or outbursts. I was 10 when the show started and had a "crush" on Mya . A character known for her ability to change into animal form (frequently a hawk). Wish they'd do a reboot!!!
R I P Mr. Martin Landau our Commander Koenig. The loss of yet another childhood icon. Now Commander Koenig is reunited with his dear friend Professor Bergman up in the stars where they shall share that special bottle of Brandy that Victor was saving. I dearly loved this TV show as a teen. This show was so exciting and it created so many great memories that I still carry with me. Also seeing Mr. Landau in all his earlier works ie Mission Impossible and for me, one of the best, was of him playing Bela Lugosi in the Ed Wood movie that he won the award for. He was just awesome in that part and in all of his dramatic roles. Such a great actor. So many of us kids back then looked up to or at Landau's performance of Koenig like a hero or role model. He was cool calm and tried to be rational before making hasty decisions. Landau and Bain's daughter is actress Juliet Landau from the Buffy Slayer and Angel series among many others.

Steven Rowe. I'm sorry I didn't get to know these people, these professionals ; any better than just watching them on t.v. or reading their names in the closing credits. May they all rest in God's eternal peace.
I'm shocked how many of them didn't make it to age 60! It was almost 50 years ago now, so of course a lot of them have passed away, but so many of them didn't live to 60 years old. That's odd.

Being a child from the time when this show was produced, you've got to remember these people were in the prime of adulthood when it aired. Some were even in middle age By 2012, many would be gone, whether by disease or simply old age as that is a space of 35 years. I'm in my low 50's for comparison now. That is how each generation knows it's getting older... when people of your era (as a child) in entertainment start dying off and retiring.

What a beautiful tribute! I'm 45, and I couldn't wait for this to come on tv. I had a crush on Catherine Schell's character Mia. I sure hope Hollywood realizes, that this is quite revivable, as a film, at least, if not a show. Seems today's sci-fi could use a breath of fresh air
A beatiful tribute. Brought tears to my eyes. Space: 1999 was the show that got me hooked on sci-fi as a 10 year old kid. Here I am many decades later and still hooked. My dad took me to watch Star Wars at the cinemas when I was 11. I have taken my son to sci-fi conventions and movies since he was 5 years old. Unfortunetly my dad had passed away when Star Wars VII was released or we could have went all 3 generations together to watch it. I still have my old Dinky Toy Eagles, my MPC kits I built and painted as a kid. I have bought some of the newer Sixteen 12 Eagles, the Mark IV Hawk, as well as some of the new Round 2 plastic model kits and I'm thinking about picking up my old hobby of model building again. Amazing that 47 years later this show still means so much to so many and that the space vehicles and effects created by Brian Johnson and Martin Bower still are such favourites by sci-fi fans and model builders all over the world.

This gives me pause to consider just how long ago this show was on air first run. It was a part of my life as a young teen. Sad too is the relatively young age that many of these folks passed away at, especially Tony Anholt (Tony Verdeschi).

Sadly we have lost Zienia Merton & Martin Landau too in the past few years >>> May Good Gods & Goddesses blessed the Casts & Crew of Gerry Anderson's UFO & Space 1999 ... May we meet again in a Better World & Realm ... 🕯🌷🌿🌍💖
Such a shame so many died so very young!!! For Chrissakes, one was 40?!?!?! :(
So many of them gone, I was shocked. RIP gone but not forgotten.
One of my all-time favorite shows
excellent and respectfully presentation thankyou
Mi vengono i brividi a pensare che tutte queste persone non ci sono più una serie che guardavo sempre e che sto ancora riguardando! Requiem in pace!
Maravillosos video. Esta serie me hizo querer estar en el espacio. Nunca me la perdí. Son tantos recuerdos hermosos. Aún me acompañan. Saludos Capitán... Martin Landau... Nos veremos en las estrellas.
Awesome job with the memorium, great music and sequence...this was a great show, and this was so underrated compared to Star Trek, BattleStar Galactica and many other made for TV space flicks. May the cast and the crew of Space 1999 rest easy...RIP
