We're testing 14 pickleball myths about the two-handed backhand. A couple months ago I posted a short form video asking for advice on my two-handed backhand. I took 14 tips and put them to the test with my friend Caleb!

I love the uniqueness of each of your videos Shea! I'm currently implementing a twoey so this video definitely helps! Thanks!

I liked this. #7 (straight dominant) and #8 (close to body) seem contradictory to each other. So best tips here seemed to be:
    . Pull out unsheathed sword
. Stay low bent-kneed throughout shot
    . Left wrist adds topspin
. Follow all the way through
    Helpful!! Thanks!

I’m a recent 2hbh convert and I’m loving it. Tons of top spin, more consistent, and ironically less powerful allowing me to put more into it. That was definitely an interesting list with quite a few duds 😂

As a 4.5 tennis player with a 2hbh who's a 4.2ish pickleball player converting to 2hbh love this video. I'd say most useful thing for me has been focusing on footwork such that I strike the ball just left between knee and hip of my leading leg (r leg as a r hander) as much as possible. Most ams I've seen struggle with the 2hbh just aren't timing it/getting footwork right and develop inconsistent/bad habits hitting from the hit/off the back foot. Etc.

Feeling good doesn’t always mean it looks good 😂

Regarding #3, #6, and kind of #14 - I like to change from continental grip to a grip that is more closed (facing toward the bottom of the net) while slightly brushing up on the ball to keep my backhand drives (either 1-handed or 2-handed) low to the net and with more top spin (very similar to my forehand drives). This works well for me; is this common or uncommon?

I'm a beginner...., but myth 9/10 really helped me get consistent with my 2hb and drives in general. I think the idea is wrist lag and that the wrist is potentially more stable/consistent in an extended position. Just thoughts, Great video!

Myth #3 here haha… if you slow down a lot of your successful shots and no ball demos, you are swinging with a closed face it looks like. On your attempts to confirm/bust, you guys were just kinda plowing through the ball straight which with a closed face will drive it into the ground. You have to really roll up or brush up the back of the ball to generate that heavy top spin.

Also, yes you need a good gritty paddle to really grip it like tennis strings would. A good example of this, if I recall correctly, was when Rafa Hewitt started playing with an Adidas paddle when they were really bad and he kept missing everything into the bottom of the net because it wasn’t gripping the ball. Then he switched to maybe a Joola or a CRBN (can’t remember) for awhile and was hitting well again.
Anyways, I still firmly believe myth #3 is true haha

Myth #15, show your "jersey numbers" on the back of your shirt to your opponent before contact.

The vagaries of small sample size statistics. You can’t possibly come to these conclusions with such few swings… and SO MANY OTHER VARIABLES completely up in the air.
And I am shocked to disagree with most of your conclusions.

Knowing what not to do is often more important than knowing what to do.
