Tacoma 4Runner Tundra Key stuck in ignition shifter quick fix to get keys out

What’s up guys! Here’s a recent problem I had with my 2001 Toyota Tacoma after putting the vehicle in park you can’t get the keys out of the ignition so my quick fix here so that I could get my keys out is to unplug one of the shifter plugs. Take the key out then plug it back in.
This is obviously just a temp fix if your keys are stuck. I will replace my shifter bushing and hope that resolves this issue.

I could see this being used as a built in killswitch as long as it being unplugged totally kills the ignition. You’d probably have to relocate it somehow to make it easier to get to, but could be worth it if the idea is sound!

Thank you so much, finally able to remove the key. Only solved half my problem though. Vehicles still wont start up. Could it be a fuse or something else?

I just grab the shifter and push down and forward into the parking gear really hard and I hear a slight click then the key finally comes out.. that’s on a ‘91 4Runner. Ended up switching the whole ignition and got a new key haven’t had to deal with it since.

Yes that used to work for me but I tried it so many times and it wouldn’t budge. I think a new key might help too mine is forsure worn out a bit

this happened too me in my 94 camaro i spent a hour trying too figure out why my key wouldn’t come out but same thing as you shown

Definitely!!! I’m probably looking to get a 4door first gen manual if possible one day soon. Family is gonna start growing in the next couple years and gotta be ready 🤣🙌🏼
