Thinking the same!😄
Saaammmeeee!
Ya
Two words, Rock Climbing.
What about Rythmic Gymnastic?
Dance is the only community where it’s okay to say “nice feet.” Without getting weird looks lmao
And gymnastics
And dance in general

I've come to the conclusion that most Russian ballets are vodka-fueled cries for help. French ballets are emo. Italian ballets are limoncello-feuled fever dreams. Either that or the original stories were inspired by one too many puffs on the Devil's Lettuce.
This all sounds accurate.
Most great performance art involved drugs, it feels like.
The most accurate description I've seen
L
As a french person who have friends who do ballet i do not approve this
1991 was literally the year the USSR collapsed and Russia lost almost half of its GDP by 1998. I can't help but think that those ballet students were using what they had available to them the best they could which may have included hand-me-down shoes.
oh it absolutely included hand-me-downs. I did other type of dancing in early 2000s in a post-soviet union country and most of the items, even stage costumes, were from older dancers and we just had to adjust them as much as we could
It’s the same with leotards in gymnastics
I was put on pointe in the mid 90s, we used cotton for padding and the "fitting" was a bag of shoes the older girls had used and grown out of and we just went through the pairs and got whatever we decided was OK.
I have so much respect for the Vaganova girls. So much hard and precise work! I hope you got a better fitting in later years!
The youtube channel russianballetvideos often puts out class and exam footage and it's just mesmerizing
Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the struggles in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love.
Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans
. The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom.
If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. He will help us through the struggle, the stress, and anything we experience in the world. It's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves, we need Him to help us as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction).
He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place.
He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it.
He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way.
Christ says in John 16:33: I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.]
- (AMPLIFIED version)
NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER. Regardless of what you've done or what you're going through you CAN make it through Jesus.
If you have any questions let me know xx

I personally still use cotton for padding in my point shoes , I know I am crazy
Are you old lady
I danced ballet for ten years and I'm experiencing everything all over again through my daughter. My six year old is performing the nutcracker pretty soon. I had to apply her makeup and got immediate complaints from the director that I didn't put enough.
The 80's pointe shoe situation was about the same as that video. The toe pads were way too thick and if your teacher didn't think you could feel your feet... No padding, no joke and it killed. That's why pointe ruined ballet for me. Love the reaction videos! 🤣
It's funny she said 91 doesn't feel that long ago... It's 30 years....
@@JGreen-le8xx WHAT
@@JGreen-le8xx WHA? WAIT!!! I swear 91 was just 10 years ago! 😱😱😱
Yup. And there was like one brand/style of shoes. If they didn't fit right, tough noogies.
@@giovanninasuluh Only Capezio🤦
Luxating patellas is a fairly common problem in small breed dogs. For minor cases, teaching your dog to kick back (like the dégagé) can be one way to put the knee cap back in place.
(Source: my dog's vet taught me about this after my dog's knees were diagnosed.)
Some dogs also like doing this while you're trying to get an even haircut on their back leg... "ballerina leg" for the pet groomer leads to divots 😅
My dog had that too. For dogs at least it happens because they don't weigh enough as babies to put pressure on the knee cap, which is needed to create the patellar groove. She needed surgery to create the groove and pin the cap in place. Any dog with a max weight under 8 pounds is very likely to get it
Please do a video about Bill Nye's pointe shoes! He created a patent for a more sustainable and comfortable pointe shoe back in 2002 and I would love to bring more attention to this/see if it would actually work!
I have a feeling that it's what the Elektra pointe shoes may become. They have interchangeable shanks. Apart from the box breaking down eventually, it's more sustainable to have interchangeable shanks than binning pointe shoes after two or three classes (more if you don't have strong or flexible feet), having multiple pairs of shoes for different things, etc. It would be fun if they made interchangeable boxes, but that might not work as well, given that the box needs to be sturdy enough to keep toes in place.
Just wanted to say that even though I haven’t danced in 10 years and I don’t really have fond memories of ballet, your channel continues to entertain me and Josephine never fails to put a smile on my face. Happy holidays to the entire The Pointe Shop team!
Same
Same. My childhood ballet memory was a little traumatic and I haven't danced ballet (except from a introductory ballet class I took for a term in college) for almost 10 years. But this channel is fun and I like seeing people enjoy what they do haha.
I hope that is not the case for me O have now gotten en pointe a few days ago and it haven’t been the worst
i was just clara in the nutcracker, and i had to shake the actual person once he died, and the guy who played the nutcracker is super funny and sweet, so he relies (as im shaking him), "so we're just not going to talk about how she's literally shaking a dead doll?"
I can hear my ballet teacher screaming "Keine Banana-Fuß" (translation: no banana feet, but grammatically wrong) in her broken German from the neighbouring state watching the last one.
She is the sweetest person ever and I love her but this reminds me so much of her-
just wanted to drop in and let you know that I love your channel, and that you've inspired me to start ballet at 22 for fun.
That's awesome! Good for you! Good luck with ballet! So so exciting
So exciting! Enjoy the learning process and stick with it even when it feels like too much of a challenge. I started at 21 and still going strong 18 years later! ☺️
@@breakingpointe727 you can start at 21? I'm twenty and inflexible, can I start it?
@@victoriasmith490 you can start at any age! it's a hobby, no age limit there! going pro is a different conversation but honestly just having fun in the studio learning something new is absolutely priceless. the flexibility will come in time
Me too at 28! Just for fun and to improve core strength and posture :)
Me: I will not watch any more ballet.
Josephine: *puts out new video*
Me: Screw what I just said
All I'm going to say is the "self taught" ballerina was holding on to something ------ you could tell by the way her feet were AND you could see the shadow. (and I remember the BOP IT)
My bestie did ballet. Then she forgot to chalk her shoes, or something, so her toe stuck to the stage and a dad got to reduce her dislocated knee. Her old studio won't let her dance anymore, because of the brace she has to wear. I remember going to her house, and just quietly sitting and nodding while she talked about pointe shoe problem, and I had no clue what half of what she said meant.
watching this as someone who's never done ballet is so fun. you're sat there like "oh my god this is crazy" and i'm just quietly nodding along because ALL OF THIS is crazy and impressive to me. (i'm an actor, i do stage choreography, but dancing is not my strong suit and ballet terrifies me /pos)
That clip from 1991 reminded me of my ballet experience. I took ballet from 1980 to 1997 in Canterbury England, and we had zero guidance for pointe shoes. Just a massive cupboard of old shoes and a tape measure. I have very high instep, very high arch (banana feet) but my feet are also incredibly wide …
Madam Woodman would bang her huge gnarly walking cane on the ground and scream positions at us in perfect French/Russian and get so impatient if we weren’t perfect!
We used to stuff our pointe toe with sanitary pads - often one ripped in half in each shoe because it was expensive. One girl used her mothers old stockings and she said it was softer
Love your videos 🩰
I've always been curious... since ballet has been around for so long, why can't they make shoes that don't have to be torn apart just to be worn and only last for 3-7 days? It's crazy to see what dancers have to do to their shoes.
It definitely seems like an area due for some engineering innovation, but I think it hasn't yet because it's a community that reveres tradition for the sake of tradition
Thank you so much for updating the info text! Super appreciated because I didn't have to pause as much to read it all! Thank you!
You're so welcome!!
1:43 these shoes are for people who like to have their partners immobile, it is not meant for dancing or even walking
You know, I always thought that ballerinas were serious all the time. To come across some of these funny videos of ballerinas being silly, it's kind of a breath of fresh air.
I love the perspective of these videos. I am just a spectator having been told I didn't have the right shape for ballet and coming from a poor (but super imaginative and fun) and rural childhood... The things that make you laugh and smile make me laugh just watching your joy,, but also teaches me a different perspective on what YOU see vs what I see and thought was funny, and I really appreciate that. You are demystifying ballet just a bit and making it easier to appreciate and understand the work, skill and dedication that goes into being a dancer and supporting a dancer behind the scenes...Thanks!
Ok to be fair…
I think in certain parts of the world there were better pointe shoes back then. But the Vaganova video was from 1991… the height of the Soviet Union, and we (Russians) had very minimal resources during that time. Things in Russia were very different then, they’re better now but even 10-20 years ago we had far less than we do now. Just a thought :)
I love watching her! She always makes me smile and giggle! I don't even understand most of what she is talking about, but she makes ballet life seem hilarious
The gel point…I don’t do ballet but I was a Marine. we have to do right slicked back buns every single day and SO many of us have legit hair loss and receding hair lines from it 😅
omg, Josephine, please never stop making these videos, it cracks me up every time when I see you reacting to tik toks
Regarding the 1991 video - At the school I attended for dance, we were permitted to start pointe when we were 9 (I turned 9 in 1988). But there wasn't a fitting for the shoes. It was "what shoe size are you" and then we were handed a pair!
3:35 gave me old horror movie / almost weirdcore vibes ( also this video randomly appeared in my recommended )
I LOVE WEIRDCORE THATS Y I LOVE THE VIBE OF THIS CLIP
Her reaction to the dog is amazing 😂
We need the next part of the series

This was hilarious again. Thank you Josephine, you know how to make people laugh. Never stop doing that!
She is *ICONIC* at 1:00
3:42 I’m almost the only girl in my class who wears the right outfit but this is just *Chefs kiss.*
I use to do ballet and tap and I found my old shoes from when I was 4 🥺
1:37 Anyone else think those shoes would be fantastic for an Angel Dust cosplay?

Moreee pleassee,we enjoy it
These reaction videos never cease to amaze me! Love them!!! Let's get it to double digits 🙌
Yassss love Josephine's reactions always!
Nothing but Love for you Josephine! You are so Awesome! Your videos Always make my day!
the bop it sound brought back memories
0:25 I had one lol
I was listening to an American ballerina training in Russia and she was saying that they don't do much barre when they start training on pointe, they do centre straight away and they don't do regular barre on pointe either. She was saying that barre on pointe is what gives American dancers tendinitis and problems with Achille's heel. I am not sure how true is all this
Any ballerinas out there, we all know the pain of suffocating from hair spray in the shared changing room.
That makeup one was definitely on pointe!!!
As a redhead, I feel you about the colours used .
I used to take ballet, my grade 5 teacher was so hardcore I loved her, the next one was wayyy too nice. And half the class was more jazz. I still miss my grade 5 teacher, she was amazing, she went to this place called Juilliard, and came back. It was a great experience and I do still support my friends who take it.
We need part 8
I love watching you laugh at others laughing! I love your reaction vids. X
OMG YES FINALLY ANOTHER TT VID TY JOSEPHINE 😍
Yes, please continue. Thank you.
Thank you. I needed another one of these cause I was watching the last 6 over and over 😭
Please never stop, I live for these reaction videos 😂
I did ballet as a kid and my “dance studio” (it was one lady the had a little building with a constant possum problem) had like 5 pairs of pointe shoes and when I tell you I had to cram my stompers into pointe shoes that were like 3 sizes too small. I will never recover
Yes we need Part 8!
Love how she reacts to these videos
Totally remember the Bop It commercials! Had one as a kid in the 90s, too.
OMG YES BEEN WAITING FOR PART 7

I'm so glad my mom stopped my grandma into forcing me into ballet, those 4 years of consecutive class were hell.
4:40 -- The man in the video is Alex -- the shy guy from the reaction video of Jordan Matter's video. Just noticed that Lol 😂
Please keep making these videos Josephine💗, I love them😍
The pink shoes that she wondered how you stand in them are a brand of high heels called ballet heels with a detachable metal pole thing
