Talking About Sexual Abuse | His Grace

  • It can be really hard to talk about being sexually abused. But it’s something that needs to be discussed. It’s more detrimental when it’s kept inside.
    Ally shares how her spirit broke when her closest, most trusted friend molested her. She couldn’t bring herself to tell anyone-mostly because she didn’t want to believe it happened.
    Feeling scared and ashamed, Ally left her journal open in her room, hoping her mom would read it and know she needed help. Fortunately, a month later, a nurse talked to Ally about her emotional health and referred her to a therapist.
    During therapy, Ally realized being sexually abused wasn’t her fault, and she was encouraged to share what happened. As she talked with family and friends, she felt a burst of hope and healing. And she felt God’s unending love for her.
    Everyone has trials in life. And it’s OK if we feel a little bit broken, because we have one another. And most importantly, we have Jesus Christ-His love never ends.
    If you’ve been sexually abused, what has helped you the most? Where have you found support?

    It's hard to be a victim of sexual/physical abuse, trauma & to not get angry with our Heavenly Father or even with ourselves. I was a victim of both kinds of abuse as a kid & have also traumatically lost both my parents. But I learned, we can use these darkest of times to become closer with God. It may feel it sometimes, but He will NEVER turn His back on us & truly can help us heal. I can testify this to be true. Stay faithful! :)

    She sounds like she is saying that the abuse made her flawed. That feeling of shame is so overpowering and this is so typical of most abuse victims but the abuse does not make abuse victims flawed. Healing is a long journey and always ongoing as new situations bring up old memories. One moment feeling you feel like you've got it all conquered, and the next day something else is thrown at you, maybe a news story, or a even a song, a meal, a renewed contact with someone from the past will bring up memories. The abuse becomes a part of the survivor's identity because there are actually permanent changes to the brain because of it. The need for the Savior's unconditional love and acceptance is constant. Talking about it helps so much, and discovering how much the Savior aches over what has happened to you helps immensely. Imagining myself as a baby lamb and the Shepherd is bottle feeding me because he wants me for His own helps me more than anything.

      I noticed that as well. (Your first sentence.) Also I don't mean to cause pain or confusion, however, President Russell M. Nelson gave a talk clarifying that God's love isn't unconditional ("Divine Love" 2003 Ensign). However, he also indicated that the Savior still loves us if we are disobedient, just not as much.

    If you had to be perfect to receive Christ's love, what need would there be for a Savior? I'm grateful to hear someone else say these things, to intimate that it's ok if you're not ok. in the Church too often others give the impression that our lives should be sunshine and roses 24/7 or we're doing something wrong. In reality, the actual difficulty of our circumstances helps us appreciate the sunshine and the roses and more importantly the willingness of Jesus Christ to bleed, suffer, die, and rise above it all so that He could lift us each time we fall.

    It's wonderful that the Savior heals us. I wish mortals would approach this the same way with each gender. Having been sexually assaulted 4 times in my life equally by men and women, the lack of compassion from humans is stark. There is a definite support system for women and girls who experience this trauma. I pray we find the same love and support for men and boys who go through this. We have a generation of alienated, broken men who only know they should just get over it because that's all anyone everyone says. I have been mocked and chided for expressing my fears and pain. So who, other than the Savior, cares enough to listen and support me as I work through the years and layers of pain? I'm grateful the Lord sent Jesus Christ for us. His perfect experience allows him to understand our pain and comfort us.

    These works of darkness need to be brought into the light and the sooner the better. Don't let the abuser win the war just because they got the edge on you in a particular battle or more. You are just as correct to hold them accountable and seek treatment that you need to heal, as if they intentionally wrecked their car into yours and hurt you that way instead. It is not your fault if they wrecked into you or if they molested you and you shouldn't feel at fault either way. 100% of the shame is theirs, not yours.

    Great topic and it's a thing that needs to be talked about more. I applaud this young woman for her courage to talk about it. Depression makes you feel completely alone, but that's false. There are lots of people who want to help and understand at some level. And even when people fall short, Heavenly Father is always there. Even if we have a hard time feeling His presence, He's there. Keep praying. Keep trying. Keep asking for help. 💙

    If anyone gets Abused or Sexually Abused with INSEST, then go to therapy the therapist will encourage you to tell people because this is how you get stronger and the more you tell people you Sexually Abused with INSEST or tryed to, the stronger you will get. You will never forget it, but you will be stronger if you talk about it to everyone you know. Doesn't matter if they don't believe you. Or understand. You are strong 💪 and that is great news praise God bless his holy name Amen.

    Psalm 34:14,18-19, 35:10-12
    Of David
    Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.. You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them.. They repay me evil for good and leave me like one bereaved.
    Psalm 37
    Of David
    Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong.. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;.. do not fret - it leads only to evil. For those who are evil will be destroyed.. A little while, and the wicked will be no more.. But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity.
    Psalm 25:16-17, 27:10, 28:7
    Of David
    Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. Relieve the troubles of my heart.. Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.

    I am very sorry that you suffered this abuse as a child.
    I was abused as a child in the church by church members.
    I stayed a Christian for decades until I researched the claims.
    I no longer believe in the supernatural.
    We have similar starts and you believe and I do not.
    That makes you wonder if there is a god then what gives?
    I am no longer a christian and if asked will tell people that I am simply unconvinced by the claims being made.
    I have no good reasons to think the supernatural is anything more than people making stuff up.
    Once again sorry that you suffered as a child and that you were indoctrinated (just as I was) as a child into a religion.
    I am now looking at '''why''' people are convinced to then believe.
    Thanks Gray

    They are not trials. People choose to harm others because of their emotional injury. God never gives us those ''trials''.

    Why does God let him walk a free man. There's no justice. Revenge is a fools game and it would put me in jail to get revenge. But why does God let him get away with it.

    With all due respect, why would being sexually abused cause her to feel less than perfect and unworthy of the Savior's love? That's not something you need to repent from. Perhaps I misunderstood what she was saying.

    • @churchofjesuschrist
      @churchofjesuschrist  Před 4 lety

      Hi @dentonet2, thanks for tuning in to the video and taking the time to comment. Abuse can create confusion in your heart and mind, causing you to question your worth or worthiness. However, abuse does not diminish or take away your worth because your worth never changes. Every person is a child of God with infinite and eternal worth. Victims of sexual abuse are innocent and not guilty of sin. To learn more, visit www.churchofjesuschrist.org/get-help/abuse/am-i-still-of-worth?lang=eng

    Are we saved by Grace or good works?

    • @00Fisher00
      @00Fisher00 Před 5 lety

      By grace, provided that we have true faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement. In 2 Nephi 25:23 we read: "...it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do." A number of other passages refer to being saved by His grace. Granted, as we read in James 2:20 (or 2:26), "faith without works is dead", so we need to demonstrate that faith in our daily lives, but it is His grace that saves us.

    If god exists why do so many children die at birth ?

    • @churchofjesuschrist
      @churchofjesuschrist  Před 5 lety

      Thanks for your question. It can be difficult to understand why God allows bad things to happen, or how he can allow people to hurt and harm others. We don’t have all the answers, but we know that using God-given agency, we chose to come to earth for the opportunity to experience mortality and ultimately become more like our Heavenly Father, knowing and accepting it would involve pain and difficulty. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to save us from our sins and help us find meaning and happiness despite life’s trials. You can learn more about God’s plan for His children and the role of Jesus Christ here: www.mormon.org/site/purpose-of-life/what-is-the-purpose-of-life
