I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up czcams.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.
This is a fantastic build, inspiring in itself and to have a comment from Ron is truly magic. Thank you for sharing and look forward to your other vids.
Patrick - for what it's worth, I watched you construct your other workbench before I found Ron's bench. Engineering was truly amazing - including having strips that could be replaced after too many times of cutting. But, I'm sure your build of Ron's bench is lighter and more versatile than your old one. :)
Patrick, your bench is fantastic. I like the finished bench a lot. We cannot get the Festool table saw in the US which is too bad as I like the sliding table. Please, if you haven't already done so, show us the bench in use. Ron Paulk
Hi Ron. I'm so pleased you take the time to write and honrored that you like my version.. your idea was very inspiring to me and there will be more options coming on in some more videos. Actually, i'm working on a video showing the making of the table saw box. i'll take the time to add ad chapter where you will see the bench in use. If you are interested in buying the Festool CMS, we could arrange something... shipping the stuff across the ocean is possible.
Thanks for sharing the info.. but living actually in Luxemburg (center of europe) could be that it is a little too far away to come to those shops.... :-))
Patrick Penning Hey... I'm Canadian, not like some North Americans, I was taught world geography. Of course that also was the one course in high school I flunked(failed). I didn't and still don't do good with pure memorization. Isn't your country they used as a base in "The Mouse Who Roared" and the other books in the series. Your just left of Switzerland are you not? It also explains why you would be answering my comment at 1:46am Central Daylight Time(GMT-5). Ouch!! There was nothing between you and germany. I thought you where further south along France's border. Told you I flunked geography.
in this movie they talk about European Duchy of Grand Fenwick which actually doesn't even exist.. Luxemburg is locaated between Germany, France an Belgium
This was amazing! I have been searching for mods done to these plans for the past week as the Paulk WBII plans meet about 80% of my hopes. The leg design was a hold up for me but this completes it. Thanks!
Patrick, your approach on the bench is awesome. I like the completed bench fabulous work. I have one in which I have left it up and outside for over a year, covered, uncover and such. I have been inspired by some of your work to address my new bench this year in 2017. i too am looking for your new videos, along with the sound effects. great add ins sport.
The ability to hang the feet on the bench itself, and then hand the bench from the ceiling is a great idea! Sometimes you have to use your garage for your car. :)
I wish I'd thought to drill the pocket holes before router-ing the access holes.. Wonderful work, and of course credit to both Mr P's.. Thanks to you both, if I see farther it is because I'm "Standing on the shoulders of giants"
I thought the whole video was fantastic. Great ideas, terrific perspective from Europe. I plan to incorporate some of Patrick's ideas. The scream was too funny...my husband came running downstairs, "what happened." I told him I was watching Patrick's video again! Fun!
Do you think the torsion box was compromised by only using screws on the top rather than glue to all the web surfaces? I didn’t think screws would prevent movement.
it is actually with 97-99 cm wich is a fiew cm too high. Didn't find the time to cut down the legs of the stands who are actually in the lowest position.
I really like your work, it looks very good and I bet it's practical! :) One tip though: don't put these noises in your videos, they take from the watching pleasure...
Jeff Palladino has a good idea. If you could ask your friend who CNC'd the top, what the black top is made from, we would certainly love to know. I have been searching for a tough material for my bench for a long time. I have looked at melamine, epoxy, countertop laminate, concrete and phenolic. Either they are not scratch resistant enough, too expensive, too heavy, etc. Nice work @Patrick Penning.
So Patrick I see that you used pocket hole screws on both the top and bottom of the workbench. Getting the screws into the first side is easy but is difficult when you attach the second surface. How do you get the screws into that second side and do you do anything to make sure that the inner framework is square to that last surface?
Hi Milan, It's really tricky to screw the top plate but i used the Festool angle drill adapter (www.festool.com/Products/Accessories/Pages/Detail.aspx?pid=490293&name=Attachments-DD-AS) and it was ok.
Hi Eric, I used the switch from an old basic router table but you find those kind of switcher nearly everywhere www.amazon.de/s/ref=a9_sc_1?rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Asicherheitsschalter&keywords=sicherheitsschalter&ie=UTF8&qid=1480924388
yes, I am aware of this. What I am wondering is, if you like the workbench to be mobile, why not just build a mobile base for it directly(similar to the one you have on your old table)... instead of having sawhorses, then fittings for the sawhorses to sit in, and mobile base for the sawhorses... ??
Gary Karczewski they provide a clamp surface anywhere on the bench you need but only work with festool some clamps (pricey). There are videos on how to make cheaper imitations.

Have an update on this one? I’m in the process of evaluating what I’d like to do for my own version of a Paulk-inspired bench. Would love to see what you’d do differently.
hi, Actually, not very much... i never really used the crosscuts(not accurate enough) what would be great to have is a better alinement of the 2 plates. I'd like mor to use benchdogs and guides for crosscutting but the alinement of the 2 plates needs to be perfect.

we call it "formsetters ply" it's cheap as because it's disposeable after time as the cocreting moisture affects it. The surface is nice and smooth.
