ABOUT ANNETTE
Annette, the much-anticipated new film from LEOS CARAX, is set to open the 74th Cannes Film Festival on 6 July 2021 and will go on general release in France on the same date. Based on an original story and music by Ron and Russell Mael, the brothers behind the flamboyant band SPARKS, ANNETTE began life as an (unreleased) album but was transformed into a musical film after they met Carax. Having successfully maintained a five-decade-long career as one of the world’s most innovative and creative bands, it comes as no surprise that their collaboration with the visionary French director has resulted in a unique piece of film-making. The original soundtrack to ANNETTE, with lyrics co-written by SPARKS and LEOS CARAX and music composed and performed by SPARKS, features vocals from the stars of the film: Adam Driver (Henry), Marion Cotillard (Ann) and Simon Helberg (The Conductor).
About Annette, SPARKS says: “The characters live and breathe through the sensibility, tone, and lyrics of the music. In Annette, we set out to have virtually all the dialogue sung. It was a huge challenge, but one we are extremely proud of.“

This movie is a masterpiece.
Marion Cotillard's voice has so much character. It's filled with tenderness, warmth, and naivety like when in love. This has to be her best vocal performance in a musical film since Nine back in 2009. She's rocking it and I am here for it.
Listen to her singing in Les Jolies Choses, that was back in 2001, TWENTY years ago, hard to believe. Her singing there blows both her Nine & Annette performances away. The soundtrack (she plays a pop singer in that film and the soundtrack reflects that) is hard to find these days, but I bought it in EU back in the day. However, I think one or two songs are on CZcams.

Hallo 😀 Wie geht's Dir? Das hab ich geschrieben, weil ich glaube, wenn Russell das singen würd, würd ich anfangen zu weinen. Grad weil es so ein emotionaler Song ist und er das so super rüberbringen kann. Aus dem selben Grund find ich es schwierig diesen Song aus der Collaboration mit Beck anzuhören, weil das so klingt, wie wenn Russell echt ein gebrochenes Herz hätt. Und die Vorstellung ist furchtbar.

Ich habe oft das gefuehl in den Kommentaren bei ihren anderen songs das seine besondere aufrichtige Stimme zu wenig gewuerdigt wird! ! Stattdessen ist er oft aufgrund seines besonderen Tanzstils oft als ueberdrehtes Kind beschrieben ich finde das oft verletzend weil man ueber seine eigentliche Staerke das Singen nichts schreibt man nimmt es als was selbstverstaendliches wahr und nicht was besonderes! Adam Driver hat allerdings auch eine sehr gute Stimme und die, die ihn dafür loben, sind halt seine Fans. Ich persönlich kenne ihn noch nicht wirklich, hab jetzt das erste Mal von ihm gehört, bezogen auf seine Rolle in "Annette". Was solche Dinge anbelangt könnt ich durchaus Nachhilfe von Ron und Russell brauchen 😄
Na ja, man kann's auch so sehn: Diejenigen, die Russell als "überdrehtes Kind" darstellen, haben wahrscheinlich selber net im Entferntesten die Energie, die er auf der Bühne hat. Die selber wären wahrscheinlich schon nach 2 Songs total fertig. 😁 Allerdings hab ich ehrlich gesagt noch net drauf geachtet, ob andere seine Stimme würdigen oder nicht. Für viele sind halt vielleicht eher Ron's Texte wichtig. Aber für mich ist Russell's Stimme genauso wichtig wie für Dich. Das ist einer von vielen Gründen, warum ich ihn so toll find.
