  • This is a product review of brand new release (March 7, 2021) from Tangent Scale Models of a Pullman Standard PS2-CD 4750 cubic foot covered hopper. This model features the first Illinois Central Gulf hopper ever painted (this was in the midst of the IC/GM&O merger in 1972). The first release featured a thin font of the "Illinois Central Gulf" letters.

I too am a CH guy. During my high school years, my dad’s cycle touring friend (that worked for the TP&W as a station agent), allowed me to help him make switch lists of cars being loaded at the local
elevators. These were 100 car trains that wouldn’t fit in the tracks. They had to be set out at different locations and spotted in 33 car cuts, with the
last one being 34 cars. I really
    enjoyed this. Some trains were
all private cars. Some of the first trains were TLDX PS 4427
type cars, then they disappeared and were replaced
    by 4750 types from different
builders. I hardly ever saw a round sided car (ACFX). Most of the trains were N&W home shop built kits of the 4750 type
    in the 177000-178999 series,
    with a sprinkling of N&W 4740
types in the 173000’s or 176000’s series. These N&W trains were interchanged with
the N&W at Forrest, IL and were
    destined for Norfolk, VA. The
private cars went to Baltimore, MD or Philadelphia, PA via other
routings. At that time, I lived in
Chenoa, IL, junction between the TP&W and the GM&O/ICG.
There was a lot of traffic from
Ralston Purina in Bloomington, IL, destined to Indiana/Ohio
    Ralston Purina plants. At first,
it moved in assigned GM&O CH’s, then IC/ICG CH’s. For some reason, I’ve always liked
    those IC/ICG CH’s and CH’s in
general; I guess since I saw a lot of them and worked around
    them. IC/ICG’s especially!

The notches in the bottoms of the side posts were a measure to eliminate spilled lading from getting stuck and causing rust. It may have been an option that wasn't included on all roads or even individual orders.

Just saw these new ones ICG, at the Hobbie Store yesterday, and now I have to go back and get some. I did pick up the Walter's IC Paducah rebuilds.

If Tangent were to step into the 2 rail O scale market with these PS 4750s, they'd make a zillion dollars. I get rid of my Atlas Trainman PS 4750s and buy the Tangent versions in a millisecond.

such a nice model. well worth the money.
did you have to change the couplers ? to Ka Dee's

    • @ck7813
      @ck7813  Před 3 lety

No, they are still the factory installed couplers. I haven't had any issues with compatibility with other couplers except for the Atlas Accumate couplers, it is tough to get them to join.

My favorite railcar of all time, just too expensive for me. I know they are spot on.

The athearn truck with spinning caps have always looked like crap, contour isn't right plus they left off specific parts like the bearing adapters, there's just nothing there. The new tangent trucks are far superior. The early 4750 center sections were riveted them later on went to welded which tangent has covered

I was planning on picking up some of these ICG PS 4750 covered hoppers for myself, it is such a shame that Tangent has completely sold out of these hopper cars within less than 2 weeks.
