- Jaws 2 is a 1978 American thriller film directed by Jeannot Szwarc and co-written by Carl Gottlieb. It is the sequel to Steven Spielberg's Jaws, and the second installment in the Jaws franchise. The film stars Roy Scheider as Police Chief Martin Brody, with Lorraine Gary and Murray Hamilton reprising their respective roles as Martin's wife Ellen Brody and mayor Larry Vaughn. It also stars Joseph Mascolo, Jeffrey Kramer, Collin Wilcox, Ann Dusenberry, Mark Gruner, Susan French, Barry Coe, Donna Wilkes, and Gary Springer. The plot concerns Chief Brody suspecting another great white shark is terrorizing the fictional sea side resort of Amity Island following a series of incidents and disappearances and his suspicions are eventually proven true.
Like the production of the original film, the production of Jaws 2 was troubled. The first director for the film, John D. Hancock, proved to be unsuitable for an action film and was replaced by Szwarc. Scheider, who only reprised his role to end a contractual issue with Universal, was also unhappy during production and had several heated exchanges with Szwarc.
Jaws 2 was briefly the highest-grossing sequel in history until Rocky II was released in 1979. The film's tagline, "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water..." has become one of the most famous in film history and has been parodied and homaged several times. Although Jaws 2 received mixed reviews, it is generally considered to be the best of the three Jaws sequels. The film was followed by Jaws 3-D and Jaws: The Revenge, released in 1983 and 1987, respectively.

My mom took me to see this when it came out, was 6 years old at the time. Looking at it now, it really set the template for all the 80's slasher films. :)
That "Just when you thought it was safe..." line is one of the best ever ("it's only a movie..." is maybe the only other one that compares). Percy's voice gives me chills every time!

Great editing - that would have made a great action sequence with Brody's police boat and the chopper arriving as the shark attacks were taking place!
Percy scares the crap out of me every time.
Jaws 1 is more of a thriller. Jaws 2 is a pure horror movie for me.
My mom saw this and the 1st one at a theatre when she was really young.

As much as I love the first one. The second one seems to be scarier than the first one for some reason. It seems as if the stakes were higher and the tone from the first one carried over to this one but they took it up a notch.

Was there a Jaws ripoff with predator bird like with Grizzly being Jaws on land?
The closest movie I can think of to that, is either 'Day of the Animals' or 'The Swarm' (which was based on a novel).
When I seen this in the movies I loved it but now I just say when my friends talk about it I say “there not man eaters there like lil puppies in the water” I love sharks but I still love the movie.✌

Much as I love Jaws 2, we gotta admit the head of Bruce looked like it were smashed.
Oh the animatronic definitely looks worse than the original Bruce. They showed it a little too much and the detailing isn’t as good. However it is still convincing overall and the film is great!

I would redo this film keep it exactly the same but at the very end it is revealed the shark is some kid with a shark fin, snorkel, and goggles. Great film otherwise.
How is no one bringing up the fact that Jaws 2 is actually Close Encounters Of The Third Kind??? Any true Jaws Heads would know this!
