    Many more will go, and I say this as an ex-district manager in the Aus fast food industry. Operation costs are WAY up, the customer base post-COVID is much worse in that harassment is more common now and a lot have shifted to prefer delivery over in-store service leaving the reputation of your business in the hands of an uber driver. You'd have to be a masochist to open a restaurant in Australia now, very high risk and very low reward.

    I still remember Mains road being one lane only each way and after the railway bridge beside the Altantdi station it was a dirt road. How things have changed. Where that shopping centre is was all custard apple farms. On the other side of the road, there was an enormous tree and a fruit stall behind which were farm crops. When they removed it the created what we called the red hill. They had dug an enormous area of ground, that became the underground carpark and piled the dirt into our hill. The entire place became the best place to ride your bikes out. I still remember also playing bike tiggy at Market Square when the shops had closed. They had the best fish and chips shop too. God I miss those days.

    • @MikesManCave
      @MikesManCave Pƙed 12 dny

      @@paulb5680 haha most are not making any money, that’s why they close, selling a burger for $15 they would be lucky to make $3-5 on the burger, then it $20-35 wages per person per hour, insurance, $700 plus rent a week, hundreds in deep fryer maintenance (oil changes), $40-100 electricity per day, hundreds in grease trap clean outs etc. now work out how many burgers a day you need to sell. It’s almost impossible to make a $$. I had a burger shop for three years, most weekdays you work all day and make nothing, the only people making money is your staff, some days you don’t cover expenses then you try and make up for it on week ends, if it rains or bad weather you might as well stay closed as you will end up being down $200-400 for the day that you have to bring from home to pay your staff.

Australia just isn't a place for big new foreign chains. Its why Mos Burger didn't survive, its why Carls Jr is on life support, its why Wendy's won't survive when it comes to Australia next year. The voluntary administration closure of 24 stores does not include a further 25 restaurants which the CJ’s Group has sub-franchised. These 25 restaurants will transition to a direct licensing agreement with Carl’s Jr parent company CKE Restaurant Holdings, Inc. The administration does not affect the burger brand’s franchisor, Carl’s Jr Restaurants LLC, a subsidiary of CKE.
