  • Former Judas Priest lead guitarist KK Downing has been a busy man since he left the legendary British Metallers over seven years ago and it was a real pleasure to catch up with him at his new Metal venue, KK's Steel Mill, last week in Wolverhampton.

This is a venue that is not only steeped in history but rooted in ambition too and KK talks us through the founding of Steel Mill and touches upon the plans for its future.

KK released his autobiography in September, 'Heavy Duty - Days And Nights In Judas Priest', and it's a revealing read with anecdotes aplenty and a fair share of surprises as well.

The real reasons for and circumstances of his departure from one of the most influential Metal bands of all time are laid bare, and the book is by far the most searching biopic of Priest ever.

KK touches on many aspects of the books content in our interview as well as his plans for his own musical future and what exactly where the future of Heavy Metal may lay.

The interview is in four parts and you'll find the rest here: www.metaltalk.rocks/kk-downin...

KK Was one of the founding members of Priest. If Halford can quit the band for years, KK has to be a part of the next tour, zero exceptions!

Not a bad biography he published recently. A real metal soldier with likeable attitude was surprised. Always a little mysterious like glenn tipton.

The book was a good read but I got a bit annoyed with the way he skipped over the recording of nearly all the albums. He just mentions each one and then goes "We went in, recorded it, and that was it really". I'd have liked to hear him talk about the studio process a bit more.

Agree 100%. I don't listen to any Priest since KK left in 2011. Like back when Halford left I listened to no music w/ "Ripper" singing. I'm a 52yo lady who saw Priest live twice back in mid 80's, and without KK their just not the band I LOVED. I wish them all well. I'm reading Halford's book 'Confess" right now, & so far not alot is mentioned about KK or his departure. Their just NOT the same band without him.😉
I hope he returns even if briefly for their 50th anniversary, since KK Is the HUGE factor in Priest forming 5 decades ago. Stay safe😷

He burned out. 45 years of heavy touring and being with the band led to this Judas Priest you a fine replacement ( Ritchie Faukner) and KK is still friends with them. So all is well.
