Iman's Daughter Zulekha Haywood: Supermodel's daughter discusses obesity battle.

- Zulekha Haywood, daughter of supermodel Iman and her first husband, basketball player Spencer Haywood, recently talked to Kathie Lee and Hoda about her struggle with her weight. After trying every diet and gaining the weight back plus interest, 330-pound Zulekha chose to have gastric bypass surgery to avoid future medical problems. But she notes that she was always happy at any weight and that a woman's worth can never be found on a scale.

Iman's daughter is stunning. Whether she was large , tiny, whatever her grace and character defines her. Weight did not. She carries herself so beautifully n is so very articulate..she is a beautiful soul. With class that others wished they possess. ..

She’s so gorgeous and she’s seems like such a genuine person. I love how honest she is about her struggles with weight. She looks healthy with a great shape. Glad she didn’t feel the need to be rail thin.

xtra black never understood why they emphasized so hard to mention Her mother and skimming away quickly from dad, just looking at her you can tell she takes after her dad physically and the weight issue has to be from dad's side because Somalian and Ethiopian women aren't big boned like the Nilotic, Western African or Bantu people (like her paternal side). Her dad may have had drug issues and struggled later in life but how many guys do you know of who left junior college to go straight to the Olympics and win Gold? The man is an NBA hall of famer, but if he wasn't a part of her life and mom was I can see why.
Iman's mother Marian Abdulmajid was morbidly obese. Google her and peep the images. Iman's daughter could've easily gotten the obesity gene from her maternal grandmother. There are 3 Somalis (two women, one male) who work at my job that are "big-boned" and they're absolutely overweight. I don't dispute anything else you've said.
chuimon slp From what I've read Iman sought custody of Zulekha, but the court granted custody to the father, who had overcome some recent struggles. No poor reflection on Iman, it was just that she traveled constantly on modeling assignments and it was thought that a stable environment was more befitting her young age.

A beautiful lady who has been on her own journey of life has come out on top smiling happiness & joy. Iman is so supportive & proud of her children she was the best mum ever who stood by her kids no matter what they experienced in real world the love from mom made everything fine ❤
From past photos of her from when she was a child to adult pictures from when she was heavier she was always a pretty girl. Her inner beauty shines through her. She's not only physically beautiful but spiritually also. Her spirit shines of goodness. Iman raised up a beautiful black queen.

Ya I was trying to figure out who she was as of course D. Bowie was never an athlete that I know of. I don't know if that was from a relationship before or after Bowie.

Have no idea where you gathered that but it's incorrect information. Zulekha Haywood struggled with her own insecurities from within as she stated it had nothing to do with the lack of love from either of her parents nor the untruth of her mother being ashamed of her. The sad thing is society judges people by certain appearances so I'm certain she had to endure this kind of treatment tenfold for the mere fact that Iman is her mother, but that's no call to say her mother was ashamed of her it is not true and it's not fair.

Iman allegedly fat shamed her as a child, calling her lazy etc. Spencer took her away from Iman and raised her himself for awhile. It was in the news. He talked about it openly. I lost all respect for Iman after that.

Clearly Iman and Mr. Haywood, not surprisingly, raised an impressive daughter.
I use to weigh 298 pounds. I gained the weight in hopes that guys didn't want to pick me up or even go out with me, But it didn't fully work. Because some guys still tried to pick me up and others tried to go out with me. What I did to loose the weight was walk. I slowly started to walk 15 to 30 minutes a day and then I worked my way up to 1 to 5 hours a day.I still ate fast food. I now weigh 165 pounds.

You can also try the 'not eating' diet, it works fine. I put on a lot of weight, didn't consider a diet as they usually make you feel bad so I chose to eat within 12hours, a small breakfast, tea and two pieces of brown toasted bread then a good lunch with a small dessert then a cup of tea at 4 pm then nothing else until next day. Slightly hard to begin with but I quickly got used to it and now I feel great and have lost 22 pounds in a year.

@beautytherapy101 Iman did not name her daugher "ZU", she named her daughter Zulaykha, so maybe they abbreviated as Zu. It means the "radiant one" and that is a beautiful name. this lady to me is very radiant and has the elegance of her mother.

i think she has always been beautiful, with both more weight and with less weight. But I can understand that she had chosen the bypass because she did not feel ok in her body, not being able to get out of bed easilly and not having energy and I am happy for her that she feels great now. she seams to be a very nice and smart person too.
Dang, that is a beautiful woman. In her own mother’s words, herself admitted, coming from where she did, she “wasn’t anything special...her looks were a dime a dozen” meaning a lot of her village people have the same features, so she never felt uniquely beautiful...especially given as the U.S. received and then perceived her. THAT cracked me up because while Iman IS pretty....i had thought the same about there not really being anything “special” about her looks...however...her daughter here is genuinely gorgeous, with truly unique and beautiful features. AND, well spoken. She just seems all around like a wonderful lady.

By the time you weigh enough to qualify for it, your health probably is seriously compromised by your weight.

I have a bad habit of posting before I watch the full vid...but I have to say... I agree with her. I am all for bringing bigger women up. I am all for railing against this idiotic notion that all women should be a size 0. But the fact is this...being heavy sucks. I have been thing I have been heavy. And I am here to tell you....health wise...heavy sux. My feet have gone south...my back hurts....everything is harder now...and my weight... and I'll go ahead and say it 225 is not any where near what some peoples weights are....has affected me greatly. I don't believe we should be a size 0...nor do I believe we should blast people who are overweight...but thinner is better. Within reason. You cannot go to too thin. The extremes of either are detrimental. And yes....damn she's beautiful.

I think he is somewhat correct, but not quite so ( at the same time). It's not "being from Africa" that makes someone tall/skinny ( such a sentence has no meaning since Africa is SO diverse), but being from certain ethnicities can give you certain attributes that exist within that group in plenty. There are always exceptions. My whole family is tall/thin. I don't understand why some people think pointing out differences = dividing Africa. We ARE different, and that is what makes it beautiful.
We women have so much to go through in our lives. Early on puberty, children n the rearing of. Menopause all these hormones never linear. I'm proud of being a woman, I wish more were. We need to all love what we see...no it is not our 20's or 40's self. Every decade brings us a new outlook new beauty, class n love for our inner n outer selves, no matter how awkward we feel at times. With each change, comes new wisdom. The emphasis on weight in our culture is clear. Unless u are tiny you are looked at as a disgrace. I have been on both sides..I am much older and far wiser than my 20's or 40's self. The soul carries us throughout our life not the vessel. The body is the conduit that carries the beautiful essence of our inner selves. I wish I knew then what I know now... beauty is in the soul period..the rest isn't relevant. we don't take that with us when we leave the planet. But our essence the soul does. As time goes on more n more will see beauty... in every man woman n child who carries hatred of the outer self. We are what we are there is no room for oppression. Illness is a problem n with that said we follow our doctors advice. When we look at paintings of the Renaissance we see beautiful women. Who had stature n held themselves to a far different standard. We are beautiful whoever we are.
