He did make it eventually against the odds. Ion think he choose to be addicted to drugs its a disease bro salute to swee pea Lloyd Daniels
@@Intellectually_Ignorant_brand It sounded like you was making excuses for him when you wrote you don't think he chose to be an addict. You are right about addiction being a disease but a drug addiction is a self inflicting disease. Drug addiction is like picking up a needle, that has HIV infected blood in it, and sticking it into the body knowing that it had HIV blood in it.
Iam from Asbury Park, NJ. And I have picked up Loyd many times in freehold and howell and dropped him off in Lakewood and Asbury. In fact he was my son's summer workout coach. LLoyd was/is an Aau coach out of freehold. He as recently as 2020 lives in Colts Neck, NJ. He is not totally sober. BUT he is not in any gutter.
He use to come to selvyn smith tournament in bed stuy in 87 and wow he was amazing to watch we'd climb to the top of the fence to watch that's how pack 270 park was. Along with the scurry brothers. I witnessed his greatness.
Thank you for this. As a kid, I got to see Lloyd Daniels play/start for the Spurs under Coach Tark (briefly) and then John Lucas. I never knew he returned to his addictions. Unlike most street legends, Lloyd actually had an NBA build. He was big at 6-7 and strong for a shooting guard. I'd guess most basketball fans have never heard of him. I don't know how great he could've been, but the fact that he was stuck in addiction, then started playing semi-pro (USBL) ball pro and soon after was a rotation player/starter for a very good Spurs team-that's really unheard of. It's also funny how Tark brought him in after he was named HC of the Spurs. The same Tark who tried to bring him in at UNLV, but after Daniels was arrested Tark's program caught the eye of the NCAA and it eventually led to Tark's forced resignation at UNLV and subsequent hire as HC of the Spurs. Then after the Spurs fired Tark (about 20 games into his first season), John Lucas took over. Lucas, like Daniels, had past substance abuse issues and was/still is mentoring guys dealing with addiction. Lucas also, like Daniels, joined the Spurs from the USBL where Lucas was a coach (a minor league at a level lower than the CBA).
My man had GAME! I used to love watching this dude, even after he came back and was on the bench. My man was a real baller, you could see it in the way he moved.

Yes it is
I grew up with Lloyd. Good people. He wasn't fucked up. That happened AFTER he left Brooklyn
Damn ...7 games away from a nba pension
Wow what a story
I remember him when he played in Italy in the '90s
allora non sono l'unico italiano a seguire questo canale! 😁
Dude still played professionally from 1987-2006 now that's pretty insane but, it can happen
Given Lucas history he shoulda been more sympathetic and more of a father figure and mentor 2 Daniels. U can consider that a growth stunt n its own right
That's a fact! Was thinking the same watch his story. I think he didn't want another addict around as a means to escape his past. He did Lloyd dirty if you ask me.
@@stuntedgrowth after seeing this i wonder if Lucas was still dibbling a dabbling at that time and didnt want Daniels 2 catch him up cuz aint no way n hell a fully recovered addict is gonna turn his back on someone trying 2 get clean
I was surprised by that too. Why would Lucas ditch him like that?
Tark gave Lloyd too much responsibility on the team, the team suffered. John Lucas made a BBall decision.
@@chihollywood9379 I was thinking that too. Or as a former addict Lucas may have seen something in Lloyd others didn't, maybe he thought/knew he was still using. Or.maybe they both were, & Lloyd beat him out of some money. Punked him because he couldn't say/do anything about it.
This story is more about Tarkanian than Lloyd. Without Tark Lloyd's life would've ended at high school.
Good dude had his troubles.funny ass hell a real shit talking .also played with duncan hines and len bias r.i.p
He was great on the spurs. I miss those days as a spurs fan
