Only Freddie could write a humorous song about how crazy the aids medications were making him feel. The guys had fun helping him come up with expressions for madness. Brian said Freddie was in such pain but never complained. What strength! Bless. I miss Freddie so much. ❤ such genius.
This song always makes me well up with tears. Freddie wrote it, with contributions from Peter Straker, as a way to process the mental side-effects of the powerful medication he was taking in an attempt to minimise his symptoms of AIDS. Brian once said that Freddie had lost so much weight, he was wearing layers of cashmere sweaters to pad out his clothes, and the video was filmed in B&W to try to disguise the thick make-up Freddie was wearing to cover the lesions on his face.... 😢
Freddie was very sick at this point . As you can see he never lost his sense of humor 😂 He could still write a wickedly funny song but with true meaning. He was on meds that were messing with his mind. Thanks for all your respect… love that you don’t stop the video with comments You are great ✌🏼🥰🤗. PS Another interesting video is the making of this video 👑
Freddie was quite ill by this time and was taking a lot of medication that made him feel like he was losing his mind sometimes. He wrote this song about what he was dealing with. Leave it to Freddie to just ride the ride and find some humor in it all. What a brave, strong and beautiful person he was, I really miss him.
I can't begin to understand what Freddie was going through at this time in his life ,but I like that he was trying to explain what he was feeling and thinking thru his music. Thank you for reacting and being honest about how you truly feel because that's what it's all about. 👑💙🌈👏
The B&W version has so much more impact, considering all Freddie went through at this time. He PURPOSELY made it B&W to try and disguise how sick he was (considering the public didn't know about his illness until 24 hrs before he died). Many have already said how this song was written to show how Freddie's meds affected him. Please re-watch it knowing that. I know original Queen fans had an idea what was happening to him. But even if you're new Queen fan, you can see the difference throughout his videos. Even as his latest videos came out, he was moving less and less, or not even showing up at all. But he always, until the day he died, lived for the audience, his fans.
We must place this song in its context as it was explained in one of the comments, Freddie will have demonstrated a strength of soul, a physical courage and a humor of which few people are capable facing the inevitable death predicted. So, as a humble soldier in the Queen's army, you will understand that your 6/10 shocks me terribly. Greetings from France
@@LilmannReacts In all fairness, you should been warned. This was filmed 9 months before Freddie passed. Thanks for bumping up the rating in honour of the one and only Mr. Fahrenheit!
I can really appreciate Freddie who makes fun of himself, during this difficult time in his life!! The music video gives me a Tim Burton vibe, very Johnny Depp-isk (Edward Scissorhands) ✂️ Freddie stated that he & friend Peter Straker, stayed up all night coming up with the clever one-liners in the lyrics! Brilliant!
Freddy was so sick when he made this video I don’t even know how he did it. For a long time I put off watching it because I knew it would make me so sad. You’re right it’s not like other Queen songs, but God bless Freddie for getting up and getting out there and making one I believe it’s his last video. But there were a number of recordings and Richard dance and his voice sounds amazing. I was a Videos after this. Are.
Yes, this one is different but still amazing. The lyrics are very clever. Our Freddie was so sick, but was still able to write music... up until the very end. A couple of deep cuts for you: Keep Passing the Open Windows, All God's People and Don't try Suicide.
You can see that Freddy is quite ill in this video and I believe it’s the last video he ever made. It isn’t the last song ever saying I don’t know if you’ve listen to the show must go on, but he was really sick then and it’s remarkable. I haven’t wanted to watch this video because I knew it would make me really sad. But I think you for doing it.
Freddie wrote this song when he had aids and the medication given to him made him hallucinate and go crazy In the end he decided to stop everything and passed a few weeks later.
OH WAIT.... I THINK THAT THIS IS MY FAVORITE MUSIC VIDEO, IT'S SO QUIRKY! (And I love the Alice in Wonderland references.)😃...There's such an "Edward Scissorhands" vibe about this video, I actually looked up, one time, when that movie and when this video came out. (To see if one might've influenced the other.) This is definitely one of my favorite songs: We don't get to hear Freddie sing in his natural lower register very often. The underlying meaning of the lyrics is that the AIDS medications Freddie was taking, were causing him to have hallucinations... so why not write a song about it!
The so called "Queen sound" was changed from time to time, and the sound of the last 2 albums are really different. Freddie was very weak at filming the video and he had to be caked in make-up. In quiet moments Freddie took himself off to be with the penguines and gave them water. Under the studio lights they were baking, and as ill as he was, he was only concerned for their health.
We Queen fans should have enlightened you ahead of time. I've read you upped your rating after learning some things. I would have respected you if you kept the 6 as this song is NOT typical Queen. My Opinion is that this is Freddie's Good-bye to the band just as people view These Are Days of Our Lives to be a good-bye to the fans. Why do I think it's goodbye to the band? Because if you watch it it's very cathartic for those suffering survivor's guilt. Freddie throughout says he's finally done it. (he takes the blame) he acts out the highs/lows of sick days with John's yo-yo and medicine effects with all of them. Anger issues with Roger similar to how people during grief are angry with the deceased. Freddie guides him to choking and then bends down to make it easier for Roger to bonk him. With Brian it seemed to be about communication and transition. Tuxedos to penguins. And at the very end Freddie lays in the field of daffodils looking over at the band happy and with a wink could be saying you guys go on I'll watch from over here. ❤ This is definitely about the medical fighting of the disease. the very beginning is an xray flash and he had radiation treatments which are administered along with the use of such lights. and I love the lines when the outside temperature rises and the meaning is oh so clear, 1,001 daffodils begin to dance in front of you - Oh Dear! Are they trying to tell you something? If it gets warm around you - it could be your body temperature is lowering. if daffodils dance in front of you - you may be looking up fron 6 ft under Freddie's humor and bravery were his strongest qualities. I also love his deeper register so commanding without needing to belt out notes.
@@LilmannReacts respect and loyalty to your rating system. 👏🏼 this song is almost all visual than music. But I definitely love his lower register throughout. Consider TEO TORRIATE they sing in Japanese. No visual but find the lyrics video. Don't try to find a live one - this one is terrific official music video. Might also not be your Queen expectations but its perfect for Queen exploration. and pay attention when he sings the line BE NOT GONE.... its hauntingly beautiful.

98.7% of all Queen songs are better live than studio version. You will enjoy Who Wants to Live Forever, live in Budapest.

Not knowing this info before was a 6 out of 10 knowing the details behind it makes me rethink it as a 10/10 judging by this info you shared amazing

Freddie was literally dying when he did this video, the pain was agonizing. No one else in the world could’ve done this.

No problem 👍
there is a video of the making of this video which is great-a really funny scene with the penquins
