Snapped a front axle on my Puma 90 a year ago. The half shaft then also snapped and the left wheel basically fell off. The weld had failed next to the hub, was doing 5mph off road (just a very rough rocky track, not even serious off road), there was almost no other damage, but as you can imagine, i feel fairly lucky that it didn't happen on a motorway 'cos at 70 I'd have done a front flip. Replaced it with a new original axle, and after reading up on it, it looks like there was a series that had bad welds. So i was just unlucky to get one of them, but honestly it's difficult to imagine driving it hard like you are there. One day i may get both axles properly built to race spec, not that I'll ever race but i want to trust the vehicle again! What mods would you suggest to build tough axles?
Hey Mark! Sorry to hear about the snap and very glad it happened somewhere relatively safe for you. We've got an axle set aside to make a video on this in future if you're happy to hold on for the answer? If its urgent - just let us know and we'll get Rich or Zako to answer you directly.
