Your technique with acrylics is amazing...you can hardly tell them from oil. A lovely sunset lit background is made even more vibrant with the shadowy foreground trees.
Beautiful Kevin!! For not being a southern boy, you paint the south quite accurately my friend.. Answer to your questions, Yes they are beautiful cypress trees.. and yes the houses are built up on stilts to stay dry when the heavy rain comes and the swamp rises .. The swamps engulf the entire south east just like this painting.. from Texas east to Georgia, and south into Florida almost to homestead Florida you will find these beautiful cypress creek's and swamps spread out across the lands. Some are massive and some are very very small. You might see 2 or 3 small small cypress trees around a little wetland patch in a field. Even along the high way at the offramp areas.. In the spring, these are the most beautiful trees.. especially all clumped together near a wetland area.. they turn this beautiful bright yellowish chartreuse green with their new growth in spring.. totally different colors than the rest of the year.. Check it out if you get a chance..
I’m so glad your doing more with acrylics, I can’t use oils but you’ve been sneaking in enough acrylics that I subscribed so I don’t miss the next one.
I’ve commented before as to how lovely this one is but it bears repeating:: it is BEAUTIFUL! You give very helpful instructions and make it seem possible for us. Thank you again for sharing beautiful paintings with us. I plan to watch this several times.
Kev, it looks like swamp to me.. we lived in Ms. for some years and that looks just like it, except you might see a alligator in between those trees... great ! Enjoy all your work. Thank You Kev... Donna Brown
he kevin,i love your paintings very very much. You are realy a master painter.thank you sooo much for sharing its make me very happy.God bless my friend and your loveones...
I realize this video is nearly 2 years old. But I am just seeing it for the first time. I think you did an amazing job stepping a little outside of your box. I like this one mostly for that very reason. Very beautifully done. I especially love your contrast between light and shadow here. I'd like to offer a tiny bit of critique, however, for future reference. In the swamp, where there are Cypress trees, there are Cypress knees, the roots of Cypress trees which jut up out of the swamp water in the areas surrounding the Cypress trees. Cypress knees are an integral part of any swamp scene where Cypress trees grow. I don't know if you've painted other swamp scenes in the past or since this particular painting. But if you decide to do another, you might consider integrating a fair amount of Cypress knees in and around your Cypress trees as they are, indeed, one in the same.
Your paintings are so inspiring! I tried to recreate some of your work with watercolours and although it's very different, it turns out great! So thank you, and keep doing these videos!
I live in a swamp (Southern U.S.) Aaaand yes, the tree you are referring to is CYPRESS, usually bald cypress... aka, the infamous swamp tree. Love this!
Hello KevinOilPant. How are you doing? I now paint whit my beginners paint medium gouache and i ordered acrylic gouache. I found that oil painting wasnt my medium and it was getting too expensive and i ddind like painting only whit watercolours so i am going back to the himi miya 56 gouache painting set😊 i love you,re swamp painting😊👍🏾✌🏾👋🏾
I m trying to replicate this painting but my colors are looking patchy i tries hard to blend them can anyone assist me what could be the problem should i dampen the canvas before starting
The "Delta Swamp Areas" provoke a more Earlier Eart Era with large reptiles, and there are a few areas adjacent too the Mississippi River in Tennessee (Reelfoot Lake), Mississippi, and of course Louisiana. Google pics of Reelfoot Lake and watch the CZcams video re: the History of Reelfoot Lake. I live about 10 miles due East of Reelfoot. My dad's family is originally from this area. (Great place to visit, but ...) You will enjoy these resources. You did very well having not been in these areas. I'm in the mood to paint a Reelfoot Lake with Cypress Trees and a Super Moon/Full Moon. Yep, its a magical visual... As the walking dock disappears into the darkness. Note: Reelfoot is also home to our American Bald Eagle. Check out my resource references and I know you'll do another "Cypress Painting with the stumps" and maybe even with a Super Moon. Well done!
Thank you Kevin. This helped a lot. I’m trying to do a swamp scene from a photo I took years ago. Struggling a little. Mine is a day photo. What medium are you using please.
Google pictures of *"Cypress Knees",* the Cypress trees in and around water overwhelmingly include "Cypress Knees", a fun authentic add for the painting. Now, how about a painting of the desert that includes the layers of red-orange and maroon colors that run through The higher areas around Law Vegas around "Red Rock Canyon". Going up into the Mountains in the West Side of the Valley. I will Appreciate this so much.
Both mediums have their advantages. Acrylic is easier to set-up and clean. If you have a very small area in your house to paint, this would probably be easier. However, many people say (and I think so too) that oils are easier to get a more refined look with. But with practice, both will be amazing. Another thing to think about is the dry times of acrylics for painting storage. If you do a few paintings a week, they really start to pile up. If they are all wet, that can be an issue. Hope this info helps!
Just a constructive criticism from a fellow illustrator: I think the mood you set around 15:15 in the video was spectacular because the dark gloomy foreground trees allowed the eye to focus to the centerpiece of the painting - the hut, which is both lit inside and lit by the sky. Unfortunately it got trimmed away as you highlighted all the tree trunks later on in your painting. Your technique is very masterful, and I just feel the biggest way for your paintings to get to the next level is to use highlighting more sparingly. Cheers!
Hello i am painting a green colour swamp. I use diffrent 3 diffrent colours of green and i mix my browns and greens to get the colour i want for my swamp and i wanna learn how to paint water and mist to put in my swamp. I use Pebeo watercolour paint for my painting and i use a glass jar lid as my painting pallet for my watercolour paints. Its amazing using a glass jar lid as a pallet for my watercolours.
Hey Kevin! I am new to your channel and videos , and I think you are great! Your paintings are very impressive! I am very glad I stumbled onto your channel.
Hi Kevin, Really nice detail in the reflections. Kevin is there any rules to adding/working on oil paintings later on i.e. one or two weeks later. Thank you.
Yes, the most important thing is to remember to get your blending areas done before it dries. So, you would probably want to complete the sky before stopping for example. Now when you come back it will be almost like an acrylic painting, you will need to use dry brush blending techniques and mix up more colors, because the wet oils won't give you the "instant" variation so wonderful in oil paintings. But certainly can be done. It's much better than not painting because of lack of time! Hope this helps.
Your technique with acrylics is amazing...you can hardly tell them from oil. A lovely sunset lit background is made even more vibrant with the shadowy foreground trees.
Yes, that's why I don't understand why people are complaining. Acrylic and Oil can create a very similar effect if you use the correct techniques
