    Hello ~ I recently found your videos, and I love them so much! Thank you for taking the time to post them. I also keep my Google Drive very organized with folders inside of folders. However, I did not know that in my settings, I could click the box to make my Word files open in Google Drive. Even after clicking the box, the Word files that I have already uploaded into Drive still open as Word. My question is..... do I have to put all the Word files back onto my desktop then reload them into my Drive or is there a way that I can get them to open in Google? Thank you so much!!!

    Oh Michelle, I worked in a Google District for years and my folders were like little Russian stacking dolls, colored, numbered, and oh so perfect (thank for for all the added tips) and I recently moved to a (gasp) Microsoft One Drive district (womp womp). 🤦‍♀️ These two platforms do not play nicely with each other, nor does my new district play nicely with personal/home accounts. I still have missing files floating around in the internet tubes in space. Gotta add to future work place requirements: Is this a Google Drive setting? Thank you for these tips today. I will see what I may need to clean up in my boring looking One Drive folders.

    Good morning, or afternoon, or evening, depending on when you read this. I always appreciate your videos! I wonder if you could maybe give some tips on what about what to do when someone is retiring and you have to somehow get all of your lovely creations to your teammates before your district email is shut down and all your work is lost…. This is happening in my team, and I’m afraid we’re running out of time for figuring out the best way to do this. If it’s in a shared drive, it’s owned by the district and we have no control or ownership anymore, so that’s not a good option. It seems that transferring ownership to another teammate would be prudent, but how do you best do that, quickly?

    • @PocketfulofPrimary
      @PocketfulofPrimary  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Lorie! I know I answered your question through Instagram but I'll add the answer here again in case anyone else sees this and needs to know:
      The best option is to add all of the files to a Google Drive folder, share the folder with the teammate, and then you can transfer ownership of the entire folder. After sharing the folder with your teammate, right click on the folder and click "Share". Then, next to the teammate's name, click the drop down and select "Transfer ownership".
      Hopefully that helps and thanks for watching!

    • @PocketfulofPrimary

    Okay, question. I totally get what you're saying about the shared drive.....I literally spent an entire prep period deleting shared files from last year's student work....and I hardly made a dent. So, if there are files I do want to access in the shared section and not look at that mess, can I star those folders in my shared section?

    • @PocketfulofPrimary
      @PocketfulofPrimary  Před 2 lety +1

    • @PocketfulofPrimary
      @PocketfulofPrimary  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Ginnie! You have a few options... you can recreate the PDF as a Google Form that students can fill out and submit or you could save the PDF pages as images and then insert them as the background on Google Slides with text boxes added on top for students to edit. Hopefully that helps!

    QUESTION: Our teams add each other as teachers to Google Classroom, so every time another teacher posts an assignment, their students' assignments upload to my drive. How do I delete these so the student and other teacher can still access them? Also, can I delete my past students' work? If I do this (and am the creator of the assignment), do the students also lose it on their end?
    Thank you for all of your videos! They are wonderful and so helpful.

    • @PocketfulofPrimary
      @PocketfulofPrimary  Před 2 lety

      Hi Annie! If you were added as a teacher to another Google Classroom, a folder should be created within your "Classroom" folder that would house all the assignments. It sounds like you might have accidentally deleted the "Classroom" folder at some point if the files are randomly uploading to your Google Drive. I'm going to have a future video about what to do when this happens (it's too difficult to explain in a comment). But, all assignments should be returned to students after you grade or check them so that ownership is returned to the student. Then, you can delete the files without permanently deleting them (because they will still exist in the student's Google Drive). Hopefully that helps!

  • @Angela-zl1ju
    @Angela-zl1ju Před 2 lety +4

    Great video Michelle!
    Question: what do you do with the literally THOUSANDS of student assignment files that have been handed into the google classroom? I want to delete them. Is there a faster way besides deleting them one by one or clicking and dragging on several files? I now have 3 years worth of student work in my google drive!

    • @PocketfulofPrimary
      @PocketfulofPrimary  Před 2 lety

      Hi Angela! First, the files should all be inside of your "Classroom" folder that Google Classroom created in your Google Drive unless you accidentally deleted the folder. But, if a few years have passed and you no longer need the files, you should be able to select the entire folder for the class (which would be in your "Classroom" folder) and delete it. This would automatically delete all the student files that were turned in for that class. Hopefully this helps!

    • @PocketfulofPrimary
      @PocketfulofPrimary  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Janet! Is there a specific reason you NEED the Shared With Me section to be organized? If you have shared files with your personal Google Drive, you can always add a shortcut to the file to your Drive (right click and select "Add shortcut to Drive"). Then, you can keep your main Google Drive organized with folders. As I mentioned in the video, I just don't think it's worth it to try to maintain organization in your Shared With Me section.
