Hey Michael, thoughty 2 is pretty great a. I hope you are feeling strong today m8. Personally I don't put to much faith in doctors (like in this video, getting rid of them can do more good than bad if replaced by a good loving environment) anyway have you ever taken a look at alternative medicines such as Ayahuasca? Im just asking as to my mind over 10 years with a terminal disease is a heartbreakingly long time to carry that weight.

But there's no way to pop a band-aid on a bleeding intestine or cerebral hemorrhage, and surgery was still an emerging science around the turn of the century. So when Alexei suffered abdominal bleeding from the injury, all surgeons could do was "monitor the situation", which meant pressing on the boy's abdomen to see if the bleeding had stopped yet. The problem is, such probing would break up the fragile clotting that his body could create, which thus actually kept the bleeding going.
So Rasputin instructing Alexandra not to let the doctors "bother [Alexei] too much", in addition to all the other psychological and physiological factors, would probably contribute to the boy's supposedly miraculous healing.

Years ago, while in college, I was researching, you guessed it, Rasputin for an assignment. I ran across excerpts from a biography of the Mad Monk written, I believe, by his adoring daughter. She claimed that his personality changed after being severely injured when a horse kicked him in the head, leaving him comatose for a couple of days. She claimed he recovered but suffered a profound personality change. She placed the event in his teens, and claimed his strange religious leanings dated from that time. She also claimed he accomplished many of his healings and manipulations of his victims including the Tsarevich, with a combination of drink, folk medicine, and a talent for Mesmerism, i.e. hypnosis. Might be worth additional research Thoughts...

It’s fascinating how Thoughty2 can make a video of just about any topic regardless of my personal interest in it, he can make it genuinely interesting and that I learn from them.
It’s a gift I deeply value.
I have met people like this in life. They just seem to be evil and no one notices or they are afraid to talk about it. They also seem to be nearly indestructible. It's like they have a pass. They never get hurt, punished, or found out. They reach success and women fall all over them, despite being unattractive/ average and unlike Ras not necessarily "gifted"...uh hem. It also goes beyond intelligence as many of them can not even be bothered to think things through even though they are "leaders" in their position. Not sure what the explanation is. I would say gas lighting and dark psychology, but how do you explain being so physically resilient?

It was one of them "there's no way this is real" stories, and the deeper I dove the more I learnt.
Now I can't stop my passion for history.

Ever heard of the devil?
One of the theories about Rasputin and his ability to keep the child alive was partially because he had been able to infect the child with a bacteria or fungus which acted to help clotting and other problems. It was thought that if the reduction in aspren along with an additional infection and helping the child have a better environment all combined into a perfect senerio to help the child survive regardless of if he actually knew what he was doing.
There are many storytellers on youtube and many great stories, but this is the first time I have been able to keep my focus for more than 10 minutes.
That tells me, that you are doing a very good job sir, lots of info, without it getting boring 🤙
Rasputin’s mystery was mostly created posthumously, especially from the story of his death. But even though that came from his rivals and eventual killers, I have many doubts. Maybe they wanted to portray him as some kind of demon, or possessed, or the Antichrist himself. Another reason for the legend, is that, many people within Russia and later, the Soviet Union, wanted him as an example of the total decadence of the pre revolutionary czar regime. The fact that such a person could gain so much prominence, power and influence. But that doesn’t mean he was an “ordinary” “average” person either. His story would be fascinating even with some myth added to it.

I have haemophilia myself. Today its still not that easy to deal with. Back in the days it must have been terrible to suffer from it. The worst part isnt even that you dont stop bleeding if not treated, if you hit your joints, blood starts flowing inside making it swollen and resulting in artrosis.

I've read another possible explanation to Rasputin's tolerance to cyanide. Some sources claim he'd been micro-dosing on poisonous plants to gradually build resistance to poisons, while wandering in the forests.

Alexei was young. By having all the doctors leave him alone he definitely could have healed from things as children are relatively fast healers. No aspirin, no poking or proding, and just sleep probably helped him. I also think a well developed placebo effect by virtue of his mother calming down may have helped him.

No aspirin is a very important factor, as it has a negative effect on platelet aggregation (which leads to bleeding), which is separate from the clotting mechanisms affected by hemophilia. Which worsened the bleeding (since it affected some of the few things actually working well with the child's clotting).

Yes that would work, plus extra care so he never gets hurt. I remember Princ Leopold the son of Queen Victoria spent a really lonely childhood heavily protecting in his room, he was also hemophiliac. Lived longer then this boy do, meed twenties.

One of the reasons I love this channel: I have heard this story countless times but not only did I enjoy hearing it here, I also still feel like I learned more
the stories behind rasputin's healing abilities has always been fascinating to me. it coulda been something as simple as he had found a source to study more advanced medicine than what was widely known at the time, and many things that we know now would've possibly been seen as magic back then because it wasn't understood yet.
When I started to watch this video I expected to find a very interesting and documented story about a weird man that possessed supernatural powers, but I didn't imagine I was going to find a so hilarious and entertained story, too. thank you for making this video, I enjoyed it so much. You are a wonderful storyteller and this is one of my favorite videos of your channel.
My history teacher was a fan of the hypnosis theory. The power of suggestion and being able to calm Alexei would be helpful, anyhow. But keeping him off the willow juice sounds like it would have helped, too.
The hypnosis would have helped with seducing women too.

"The Magical Sex Wizard" is a title I wouldn't mind having for a period of time. And while it may have actually been Rasputins advice that saved the Prince, I don't believe it was because he forbade Aspirin. Haemophilia is a bleeding disorder with 3 primary "types" and though sufferers do have a shortage of one of three clotting factors needed for the cascade of processes the body uses to make platelets to behave and properly clot, they often still have SOME level of clotting factors 8, 9 or 11 and SOME platelets that can actively form clots. Therefore, the advice to "not let the doctors bother him" may have saved Prince Aleksi's life because lying still may have allowed the clot to form, prevented it from dislodging (through movement), and prevented exacerbation of the injury (also through movement.)
That is probably more likely than just a lack of Aspirin.
Hearing this man’s story when I was in the 7th grade, blew my mind wide open to modern day history. Also the conspiracies that come along with it.

history is not just a story. its literally the wery thing that explains how civilizations functioned and how they were made, how everything made and most importantly what mistakes every generation have to avoid. but yeah we dont even know everything for sure and hard to even imagine the past and with how brutal history was with a lot of short lives i can see how censored books become boring

You missed the burned part. After the palace was sieged, they cremated him. And onlookers said that he sat up whilst on fire. Apparently, this can happen when a body hasn't been prepared properly for cremation and the nerves tighten as they burn.
I also read other interpretations and explanations for his murder. When he was originally stabbed, the blow damaged his pancreas. Which means he could not safely eat sugar, and so did not eat the cake. The ready fits with the stories I've read.
Also, I wondered how long it would take for the song to be mentioned. I always wondered what, "there was a cat that really was gone," meant.
Side note - the reason babies are given a shot of vitamin K when they are born nowadays is because it prevents hemophilia from developing. I would have said the asprin theory is quite plausible, further that people these days take asprin before a long flight to prevent blood clots. Really was kryptonite for hemophilia sufferers and one of the few painkillers available at the time.

Rasputin’s helicoptering weenie while chasing his murders was definitely a detail to consider. You are the greatest. Much respect.
I heard that in the case of curing Alexei, Rasputin stumbled into fortune. It was said the doctors were giving Alexei doses of aspirin tonic, which would help with the pain but blood thinner was the last thing Alexei needed. So by stopping the doctors from giving him something invariably making Alexei worse Rasputin was seen as some magic holy man. The interesting part that might be known only by the man himself is if he was aware of the negative drug interaction, or he got lucky and it happened to work out for him.

Guy was definitely interesting.. he made men cow in silence with his stare, while he made women fall under his charm with it. He talked like a raving mad man in an incredibly lewd manner towards the women he was performing miracles for, followed by words of kind and spiritual wisdom, and a blessing, almost everyone who met him claimed that he was able to heal their ailments. Had eyes of icy fire, and a voice of a beautiful demon, as described by some.. they say he ascended to a new height of spirituality not allowed to normal men, through promiscuity, drugging, and drunkenness. He was held in high esteem by many powerful Russian families, many who believed and recognized him as a prophet.
Yeah, he's kind of weird...

I've heard that there is more than one reason to Rasputin surviving the poisoning.
First the built up of tolerance (didn't find anything on Google that suggest you can build up tolerance against cyanide). But if he ate a bit of cyanide every day in addition to the garlic could be a reason to his survival.
The most reasonable reason is that the cyanide powder simply was old and as many other chemicals get outdated.

I've had a great time researching him. The whole "poisoned, stabbed, shot, shot again, thrown into the frozen river thing is just too tempting not to take into a novel. The man found someone that looked somewhat like himself, after dragging himself out of the river. That man was shot, stabbed, and such and put into that river. Then Gregori Rasputin escaped, making his way to Italy before heading for the Americas. Sometime later he met a Russian woman named Seraphina and they got together. As a vampire, he needed blood and she was a good source at first. He ended up changing her to be his companion for all time. But, she fed a bit on the tainted blood of someone with leukemia and was turned into a Nosferatu, a damaged, ghoul appearing vampire. Rasputin has taken her into the mountains in Russia and protecting her. There's more to it, but I just couldn't resist putting him into Book 5 of my Fangs & Halos series

There is a story that after the abdiication of the Tsar, Rasputin's body was exumed and cremated. And while the pyre was burning fully, it appeared that Rasputin was flexing his limbs to exit the pyre. Despite that rather macabe detail, this behavior is common in cremation - the tendons and ligiments of a corpse will contract under extreme heat, appearing as "re-animation of the dead".
Fun fact: American heavy metal band Type O Negative had an album called Dead Again which featured an image of this guy on the cover.

I first came across Rasputin when reading "Nicholas and Alexandra" by Peter Massie when I was a teen. Still a great read, if you're interested in the details of the fall of the Russian Empire, including the effect Alexei's hemophilia had on his mother.

Being that images of Rasputin still exist today, I believe the power that his eyes might have held for some in his younger more kept looking years. Eyes are truly windows to the soul. As far as prophecy goes, the mind is a powerful tool.
I was surprised you didn't mention that when in his 30's, he devised a series of dance moves that years after his death came to be known as 'Disco'.
Some accounts of Rasputin’s death claim that during his autopsy, they discovered that his lungs were partially full of water. If true, it would mean he was still breathing when he went into the river.

My grandfather lived in Russia when Rasputin was there. My grandfather never talked about his life there. I wish I knew more about my grandpa's life. The only thing I know was that his mother had 8 sets of twins along with individual births for a total of 24 children. But only one of the twins ever lived.

There always seems to be a different spin put on Rasputin. I saw a documentary where it was said the bullet that killed him came from a British Revolver, that wouldn't be a stretch as the British did give arms to the Russians. Also in another documentary it was said hat a British Officer had finished him off with said bullet as the coup to get rid of him didn't want any suspicion thrown on him. I think there are so many rumours and false hype surrounding Rasputin that you can take your pick.

Theory goes something like, Nicholas was about to propose Germany a personal peace treaty excluding British Empire which would ease eastern front and allow Germans to focus on French frontline and in order to prevent that British intelligence planned an assassination of Rasputin to destabilize Russia. However, if I remember correctly, there was an investigation on now declassified files of British Intelligence services and they conclusively declared that the British had nothing to do with said event. That one particular officer which I can't recall name of has never been part of any assassination attempt. At least not the one that has been ordered, unless of course he moved on his own incentive and joined assassination without actually reporting to British intelligence...which if you ask me sounds unreal

The Bolshevik Revolution was not a grass roots movement. It was a color revolution funded by the Rothschilds. So I am sure there were British agents trying to overthrow or kill the Russian royal family all the time. But Rasputin with his second sight was always able to warn the Royals what was going on before things got out of hand. This is why the Rothschild faction hated Rasputin and wanted him gone.

Rasputin did not lead a dissolute life as is attributed to him. This story is malicious slander, however it is true that his murder could barely have be surpassed in terms of its brutality when, in 1916, he was murdered with a .455 Webley pistol by a British agent by the name of Oswald Rayner. Although he was married and had a family, Rasputin was an itinerant monk, that is to say, an itinerant preacher, who, through suggestive influence, carried out "miraculous healings" which were truly self-healings of the sick. Thereby he also reached the court of the Tsars, where he had much influence as a friend to the Tsar's family, especially because, through a "miracle healing", he had saved the Tsar's son from death. That did not please many sectors of the Russian nobility, for which reason they became Rasputin's sworn enemies, sought to take his life and named him "Holy Devil". On the 17th of December, 1916, he was then actually also kidnapped and murdered whereby his murderer was, however, the aforementioned British agent who acted in the commission of the nobles and England. The reason for the murder was Rasputin's political objectives, which endangered the victory of Great Britain in the First World War, which raged at that time. But the murder of Rasputin still had other reasons, because, through the nefarious deed, the already long-planned Russian revolution could also gain ground and be carried out and the Tsar's family could be captured and murdered. Rasputin was the most important adviser to the court of the Russian Tsar's family. As already explained, he was kidnapped on the 17th of December, 1916, whereby the main role was played by a conspirator by the name of Felix Yusopov, who had a friendly relationship with the British agent, Oswald Rayner. Rasputin was dragged into a palace cellar in St. Petersburg, where he was tortured and also poisoned, whereby he was, however, able to counteract the poison, and therefore it did not have the desired effect and he survived the poison attack and was able to flee. But he did not get far because a revolver was taken and he was shot two times in the back from behind, which he, however, also survived. So the murderer took his weapon again and shot Rasputin in the forehead. Rasputin then died immediately. Therefore, he was first seriously injured by the British agent Oswald Rayner with several shots which, however, Rasputin survived because he simply did not want to die. Only the shot in the forehead really killed him. Consequently, therefore, in this way, a professional execution ultimately occurred. After that, the giant of a man was bound up by the noble conspirators and dragged to the icy Neva River, where they threw him in the icy water. Naturally, the assassins were quickly found, yet the Tsar stopped the police investigation. The conspirators asserted that they had murdered Rasputin because he had exercised too great an influence on the family of the Tsar. These statements from the assassins were, however, not the actual reason why the Tsar did not intervene in the matter of the murder and its investigation, rather it was the fact that it was not a Russian but a foreigner - the British agent, Oswald Rayner, to be exact - who was Rasputin's real murderer. The true reason for the murder was that Rasputin - peace-loving as he was - was active in pressing for an armistice, in order to thereby end the state of war between Russia and Germany and in order, additionally, to also avoid a defeat. And his chances of implementing his desire were, in this regard, very good, because the Tsar - due to Rasputin's enormous influence on the Tsar's family - was willing to bend to Rasputin's wishes and to declare an armistice. But the British, who saw their plans and the victory in the First World War endangered by Rasputin's peaceful political aims, did not like that. Consequently, they introduced into the plan, as murderer, an agent, who worked hand in hand with the conspirators, and whose murder plan fitted theirs exactly, because the nobility were also not keen on an armistice. Had this come about then the entire history of the world would have changed, because, namely, an end to the war with Russia would have enabled Germany to transfer an army of 350,000 soldiers to the Western Front. It would have thereby been possible for the German Kaiser to position his armies against the armies of France, Great Britain and the USA and to overcome them and to be victorious. So, Rasputin's murderer, with his licence to kill, committed a cold-blooded murder in the commission of the British Crown, so that, in the First World War, the Allies could obtain victory over the German Empire.
