This is probably the Best machine at it's price. Especially when you can also do many kinds of easy modifications to it. For example, Flow profiling by turning your hot water knob into a flow rate knob. Just switch a few tubes around.
After having a single Kcup maker for years we craved a pot being made on the weekends. Researched a bunch of models and choose this one. czcams.com/users/postUgkxL8yFdHfPF4ObeIwJ5JdM3i_9XLnbjUC2 We love it! We wanted a water reservoir for the single cup so we didn’t have to pour water in every cup but the other models it fed the water to the coffee pot to so by the time we made one pot we’d have no water left. This model has the traditional pour in feature for the pot and the reservoir for the cup which works great for us. Love how there is a bunch of holes pouring the water over the coffee, makes it taste much better. Only drawback I have is the way the lid is angled on the pot section it’s hard to get the last bit of water out of the pot into the machine without it spilling somewhere else.
Had mine 10 years, probably 10000 shots and just had it serviced. Orings on internal tube started losing water, leaking. I've been delighted.
I have had mine 10 years too, and just serviced the o rings. I need to replace the stream valve inside.. The ball bearing isn't closing properly now. This machine has been soooo gooood
Mine started leaking steam internally after less than a year of very moderate use :(. If I get a refund instead of fixed machine (which is possible) then I don't know if I'll buy it again or maybe buy something with a little better track record. I read some rumors however that this machine was improved sometime in 2022 (boilers?), and mine has MFD 2021, so maybe such issues are less common now, hmm. Hard to find an alternative, especially when it needs to be convenient to other users that just want to have some drinkable milk coffee quickly and easily, and this caters for that very well.

I have this machine (reviewed it on my channel as well) and I love it!! I don't know if I'll upgrade any time soon, it's not the prettiest but it's feature packed
What espresso machine’s are you considering
2 things:
1. The steam wand may be insulated but it gets very hot. To hot for me to touch.
2. A huge feature of this machine that was not mentioned is that you can descale the boilers without shipping them off to be done by a professional.
This is my machine at home and love it. Just thought these two items might be of interest to potential buyers.
is the machine really that heavy(which I'd love) ? I noticed because she removed the portafilter with one hand.
@@pcasarian it's pretty solid feeling. I'm sorry that's kinda vague, but I'm horrible at guessing weight.
@@BenWicker that's fine. I'm not looking for a weight number but for a machine that doesn't require me holding it while I twist on the portafilter because it's too light like my Delonghi. Thank you
@@pcasarian There's no way this thing will ever move while you're locking in the portafilter. It's rock solid. Also portafilter locks in easily with minimum effort.

Looking for my first espresso machine. This unit is so tempting, but I am a little concerned about what many others have said related to build quality and longevity.
Thanks for not muting the sound when the brew pump is running. Don't know why so many people do that. It helps owners to recognise when their machine starts making unexpected noises.

Hi, are you able to produce consistent volume with the volumetric button retaining the same grind settings and bean types?
You dosed 18 grams of grinds versus 22 grams and this is a 58mm portafilter? Is that maybe why it was flowing so quickly? I’m new to espresso but its definitely a ton of fun! Breville makes amazing espresso machines definitely awesome for delicious coffee within the comfort of your own home!! 😊
Did they phased out the red one?
with this price point, most of the pro-sumer brands wont include all these features like dual boiler with PID and 58mm plus all these timing functions, its just value for the money machine

Great short review or introduction I would say. I have early model Infuser now since 2012 looking to step up. Hadn't considered dual boiler because don't drink lots of milk drinks but this machine has some good features. Wish you'd do a more in depth review soon and price. Especially like temperature control, built-in timer, led display and ability to use a manual pull plus separate volumetric buttons. Lots to like 👍 here.

It’s not really a fair comparison because you can get the dual boiler for sale for half the appartamento
the breville duel boiler is 670 usd in australia. I looked at other machines like the rocket appartamento but it was like 3 times more expensive.
Does this model come with the water filter? I normally use filtered water, but at times when it's time to replace the water filter for the home, I'd rather have the espresso machine filter the water as well. If not, will the Barista Express filter holders work in this machine since I do have some of them on hand?
So, both the cleaning tablet and descaler (fluid) are used to clean this model?
I just bought this machine so thanks for a comprehensive rundown! I read that it has pressure profiling too, is that right?
Hi there! The BDB doesn't have pressure profiling. It does have pre-infusion.
@@SeattleCoffeeGear can you interrupt the start cycle on the manual button which then ramps the pump pressure?

Well presented vid. We have this machine at home, its good but we have been having trouble with it reaching pressure and or not having coffee release from the basket at all, it seems we have to very thoroughly clean the basket out after each use getting out every left over granule or it wont work. It could be the coffee we use but it doesnt seem right. Any advice would be appreciated

this is not a commercial-level machine. If it's used to make more than 5 or 10 cups a day, I'd recommend you get an italian-made workhorse.

I almost wish I would have waited to buy an espresso machine. I got the infuser and it’s okay but the dual boiler would be so nice.
@@brianb5723 Good point, but it would be nice to have the extra features. Maybe we become better baristas by using equipment like the infuser with less bells and whistles.
@@brendakirk7250 I’d say it’s worth getting the Dual Boiler, and that you’ll be a *happier* barista (if not a better one) with it than with the Infuser.
I’ve had an Infuser for 6-7 years now, and it simply is not capable of making anything better than “good” espresso. Most of the time though, I find it’s “okay.”
I’ve dialed in the brew temperature (at least, as much as you can with the option it affords), upgraded the shower screen and portafilter baskets to IMS, and am absolutely meticulous with my grind, dose, and puck prep. Beans are always fresh too. However, I still find myself constantly fighting channeling, inconsistent shot times, and uneven extractions.
My father, on the other hand, is not anywhere near as consistent or exacting in his prep-but he has a Dual Boiler. We use the same beans, and every time I visit him I’m surprised again at just how much better the same beans taste out of a different machine. That machine makes “great” espresso, and I wish I’d splurged on one when I replaced my last Infuser rather than get another one.
@@evandh1989 The main thing I've found is my infuser can not make multiple espressos back to back. I need to wait approximately 5-10 minutes in between, but since I am the only person in my family that makes espresso then it's fine. Maybe in the future I will upgrade to better/quicker machine.
Which basket did you use? Looks pretty full with 18g. My double shot basket doesnt take anything less than 22g otherwise when i lock the portafilter in the locked feeling is with the handle at 4 o clock position
4 o clock position is not a problem. sounds like you are overfilling the basket
@@mcnamun problem is if i fill it with 18g it usually flows loosely

What are the downsides to this machine vs a typical duel boiler e61 group machine?
none ... parts will fail because more plastic but easily replaced if you're handy. you can also do slayer like shots if u know how to do simple mods
The more traditional e61 machines are machines, that means that all parts are replaceable and can last for a long time! The breville are more of an appliance which means its more of a of it breaks get a new one situation.
@@bananahammock3859 that’s nonsense. Both are machines and can be repaired if broken. Breville has extensive supports and warranty in my country. Every parts are replaceable and there are many support groups online. The perception that it is a machine was to the fact that Breville also produce toasters and blenders. That shouldn’t be the basis to undermine this great machine.
@@Jazhiero Of cours it fixable but its like comparing a tesla with an old ford... the tesla has all the gadgets and cool stuff and u can fix it but it Will not be as straight forward to fix like the Ford ;)
@@bananahammock3859 there are many repair videos available online and as I said Breville has extensive warranty, parts and professional support - at least in my country. Not to forget the modding community for this BDB model. The perception that it is hard to repair should be not an issue now as it has been around for a while with professional and large community support. It was an issue when it was first introduced because comparing to Italian made machine that has been around for ages, Breville was relatively new in the coffee machine business. But now not anymore. I’d prefer a Tesla over the old Ford - it’s a no brainer.
I started to drink Chicory coffee and found I’m allergic to it, for a week I would be itchy all over had no idea what it was but I have a ragweed allergy

Why do we need an express machine? we can just use hot water with powder, or the K-CUP. and then add milk. Isnt the same?
Technically no it’s not the same. You definitely don’t need an espresso machine to enjoy coffee though.

It’s manufactured in China and engineered by Breville. Essentially it’s a Chinese product, the design just originated in Australia. In no way does it compare to a hand built machine from 🇮🇹 ROCKET is the best machine bar none, no cap
check lelit bianca i believe is the best machine in that price point.
and in general lelit make everything rocket doses but more affordable
@@poukrinio349 In Australia the Lelit Bianca sells for around $4000 and The Breville DB can be picked up for under $1000 so def not in the same price point. For its features and performance at that price the Breville DB is an excellent machine
@@andrewlucan9017 my comment was about rocket . I do believe that the breville is the best on what it dose for the money.
Italian made is all about looks and not features nor longevity. They are however easy to repair that I must admit.
