- This is a re-upload per a request from a subscriber. In this 1989 video, New Edition wins Album of the Year at the 3rd Annual Soul Train Awards held on April 13, 1989. The nominees are Guy, LeVert, New Edition, and Tony! Toni! Tone!. The award presenters are Run DMC and Johnny Kemp. Ahmad Rashad introduced the presenters.
New Edition members present: Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill, Ralph Tresvant. (Bobby Brown not there)
Heart Break was the New Edition album that won the award.
Bobby won a award that same night too. These guys were on the top of their game back in the day, in their primes..

That’s cause they were REAL SONGWRITERS!!! They wanted to be original & keep growing instead of copying what was “hot or in” at the time. Such a shame that real songwriting is almost gone.... I’m bringing it back though lol

As much as I hate how New Edition was taking advantage of by not getting thier money. I cant help but feel if thier parents got it they would have used the money for thier needs and not for the boys. Just a vibe I got from watching the movie..Especially Bobby Brown's mother

Unfortunately, I don't think I have the ST Awards from 1987 & 1990, but I will double check. I do have some of the '88 ST Awards, and all of '89, and a few ST award shows from the 90s, but not all. I have the '91, '92, '94, and '95 ST awards. I also have the '95 ST Lady of Soul Awards. I may have more, but I have to check.

Don’t get me wrong, New Edition are my boys, but the Heartbreak album was no way in hell better than the Guy album. Almost every song on that album was a hit:

4. You Can Call Me Crazy
5. Piece of My Love
6. Goodbye Love
7. Don’t Clap, Just Dance
Heartbreak was a good album, but it didn’t have as many hits on it as Guy’s album did
