Yes, it's a new thing in France, and it's starting to be installed quite everywhere in the country. It's an accessory that attaches to the original barriers, so there's no need to change everything.

@@kemro5461 that is actually not new to French level crossings, as old manual level crossings that are still in place (eg in the Paris - Orleans line have skirts.)
They were removed as level crossings got upgrades into automation.

It's a one-way street, but you still need four pedestrian signals and barriers for pedestrian safety.

@@elisouille_buscarscamions Well the barrier skirts are an accessory that attaches to the original barriers, so there's no need to change everything, so the barriers are probably not new, the skirts are.
