- Around the techno legend Derrick May, this grandiose concert opened the Weather Festival organized by Adrien Betra and Aurelien Dubois, on the 4th of June 2015 in the Bois de Vincennes in Paris, France.
For this occasion, the Detroit veteran is surrounded by Francesco Tristano (ex-Aufgang) and the Philharmonic Orchestra Lamoureux, under the direction of Dzijan Emin.
An amazing hybrid project between electro and classical music.
Produced by Amos Rozenberg for Paramax Films in 4K with 9 Cinema cameras by Samuel Petit for Arte TV. - Hudba
They said we'd never last......here we are 30 years later being immortalised by orchestras. Beautiful 🥰
👏👏
Vindicated, at last.
I don’t know why but this makes me tear up, I got all emotional. This is absolutely amazing and I want these days back! 😩
I had the same feeling! The music was so HOT!!!
you're not alone
I dont know why....but I cant front....
Me2
Imma househead....
This gotta b the DOPEST thing I've ever witnessed
and me best years of my life in my homeland IBIZA 87......
Mate, you're not alone ,the late 80s early 90s was a very very special time to be alive.
The best part is that Derrick May is still with us to see the legacy he created
Glad to be from Detroit and grewup when all this musical magic was in its infancy.
Me too!
An orchestra playing house music is absolutely incredible. You can feel the energy in that room.
Oh my God. I am a house head and this is the first live orchestra that I have ever seen play this live. BEAUTIFUL
This was a song my friends and I danced to on HOUSE MIXES in 1987! In clubs and at house parties in Chicago! I requested this song at my 21st birthday party! Absolutely amaZing to see this version with a live orchestra!❤🎉😊
Yesssssss...look how much the musicians are loving it!
The musicians look like they are really enjoying themselves. Usually you really don’t see too much expression on the faces of an orchestra when playing a classical piece (at least from what have I noticed when watching an orchestra play classics) what a performance!!
I highly recommend seeing Ukrainian band Onuka performing Time live with the NAONI orchestra that almost trumps this legendary performance, almost.
One of the best tunes of the techno and house scene. Done perfectly.
EPIC
MONUMENTAL
LIFE CHANGING
I played Midnight Club and always loved the Opening music.
Who would of thought I’ll hear this music on a bad ass orchestra LIVE lol
I’m so happy I found this today. Lol
IKR?
fellow midnight club fan. the mc2 sound track is what got me into a lot of the electronic music I listen to today
@@vanadium5099I love all Midnight clubs. We cannot deny all of the games had legendary music.
No one has ever looked that good playing a triangle and no one ever will again
I don't normally like the orchestal versions of house and techno, but this works really well. It's a very well composed piece of music that works acoustically. This was great.
Omg goosebumps!! Love the crowd reaction wish I was there!! Beautiful so emotional! Music is life 😍❤️💚💛💜
Up until i was 16 , 17 I had never danced before I went to a club and heared this and I was off. Such an epic house track that changed me from a sulky teenager into a dancing machine.
WOW! They took a Chicago House track and did it live. Ron Hardy premiered this at the Powerhouse in Chicago in the late 80ies. I was there when he premiered this track edited his way. When he premiered it the crowd went nuts. Played it like 4 times that night. We use to tear the floor up Jackin our bodies to this. I would lose all control when Ron beat this. I swear this is his edited version they’re doing live decades later. Allllllllll right Ron, You Better Beat Us. RIP Ron Hardy. You are greatly missed.
I know you are true House Head now!! Jackin was all we did back in the day!! My intro to Strings was at the old Club Zanzibar in N.J. This is simply great!
This song really is like the bridge between Chicago House and Detroit Techno in a lot of ways as someone too young to know about it when it was new.
It’s a masterpiece. The intro to me has always reminded me of an engine cold starting itself up, which makes perfect sense for a guy from Detroit
Ronnie Beat da hell out of this Track 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
If mankind survives another century this will be called one of the great classical works.Peace.
yasss!
Ufff... The contemporary genius Francesco Tristano that somehow never gets the credit deserved. A true artist that puts his heart and soul into the piano keyboards.
Detroit - Techno - creativity at its finest - Murray Wright High School - who knew - immortals in our midst 🌌
This has always been one of my favorite cuts by Derrick. But, listening to it played with real instruments just shot this to the top of my list. It adds a depth to the song...if that's possible.
This music that particular song is part of my life, I grew up with my friends dancing to this piece of heaven in uk back in 87-88 , god bless D M 🍀👍🙏
Holy shit this is incredible! I love when it first drops, the audience goes crazy, and the orchestra can't stop smiling.
Doing this song orchestraly brings it to life in a whole new way. I wonder if this is how Derrick heard it in his head, originally.
He didn't write it
@@hazzardousuk Who's the original composer?
@@lightning95sc The piano sequence was composed by Michael James, but everything else is May as far as i know

Pick a person losing their WHOLE mind in the audience. That’s how I am with this song. I pray that I will always be able to move to the House beat. ❤❤❤❤
The strings of Life in all its beauty!!!
All of the musicians are really enjoying their performance, look at their smiles.
Where the best of two worlds collide, one of the most iconic tracks of the house music of the 80s and an excellent orchestra.
This song is definitely TIMELESS!!!!💞😥🙌My great-great-great grandkids will be enjoying this CLASSIC--long after I'm gone!!
Done perfectly 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This is so amazing! I was dancing to this tune at Astoria, London around 89/90. This tune had the whole place rocking. To hear with a full orchestra just blows you away!
Yup me too and the gardening club awesome times
And then used to come "Ride on time"
@@francabbat your such a Hot 🔥 temptation!!!
Midnight Club Street Racing intro is why I love this song.
The crowd gave the same reaction we did back in the early days Detroit when this track would come on and the beat drops it was absolute pandemonium in the club, timeless memories 😘 Derrick May & Friends.
this track could last forever, and still we would dance it !!! Its' simply HISTORY !!!
Opening piano chords - Goosebumps
Wow the ending of this made me cry what an amazing performance
I grew up listening to this song on the original Midnight Club Street Racing videogame, it's amazing to hear this version of it, it's just plain awesome!
This was on midnight club? i never noticed that... I didnt really play it much either.
@@soymuymuyit's the game's main theme
I’m with you. When that first came out, I was like wow… that instrumental with an orchestra … even better than Derrick May alone
i only remember of this song in midnightclub Street racing
NOW THAT IS HOUSE MUSIC
This wasn't just a token string ensemble it was a full orchestra, horns timpani triangle all included. Reminds me of dance music back on the mid 70s like the Salsoul orchestra, believe it or not dance used to made this way.
This made me a little emotional !
The track that changed so many lives, most of all Derrick's. Thank you fella!
31st January 2021 & life was shite until i heard this literally for the first time in 20 years...
Yyyaaaaaa
Everything I watch this I will leave a comment. It is absolutely brilliant!
Im screaming!! Didn't know this existed! OMG
Yes, I did I saw it back in 2017. I was amazed to this ever since..I come back every year just to get away from the nonsense.
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!😍
Used to love this at the Raves great days xx
one of the best performances ever
I use to love to see him spin at the majestic theater in Detroit & Derrick has always been kind & thoughtful every time we ran into each other a real Detroit dude
I'm all tears... this is superb!!!
I feel like this could only ever happen in France
They did it in Detroit too
Chicago!!
Fantastic!!!!! 🤗🤩👍
That is awesome!! I really did not think it could be done. I gave it a standing ovation inside my home!! Update from 3 years ago: just found out that some guy named Michael James laid down the piano chorus for this master piece from a song he was composing called “lighting strikes twice” I am guessing he did not receive any compensation. Lesson : protect your music and your ideas!
Shit is fucking bananas! Wow. What it must have sounded like live.... What a treat. Bravo.
amazing performance
Truly mesmerizing!
Heard this every weekend morning, starting up Midnight Club 1 on ps2, much simpler times
what a brilliant performance
i still have my ticket ready for Derrick May here in Szczecin (Poland), his concert was cancelled because of covid of course... hope to see him soon
Sorry to hear that. Wow that disruption in the time warp. I hope we get back to this energy right here. It needs to continue..
The Legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome. Pure dope from Derrick, in a special way.
One of my all time house favourites from possibly the best era of music. Still listen to this now in my car & certainly helps pick my mood up on bad days! But this orchestra have totally smashed it! Just look at the enjoyment of the musicians!
Aboustley fantastic old skool at its best
Shivers - such a great thing to hear/see. Love the crowds energy as well!
This is amazing , even the title perfectly describes how i feel
Vibrating inside, I love this track
And I am happy to have lived in full at that time
Now i have 50 and still djng with vinyls, and sometimes while i play detroit classics sound, some kids ask me if i can play a bit techno, they just don't know., i fell sorry for them
Well I'm the only one who thinks the director is buzzing, i think he had one ahhahaah, he made me laugh so much, he goes more in time with his legs than with his hands, LOL I would love to dance with him
Imagine if a new Midnight club is released and this version of “Strings of life” is the theme
one of the best performances i’ve ever seen
Hahaa, and he can't even play keys, funny that isn't it!
Something Spiritual about the track and performance by a large Orchestra, Mr May tinkering away on Synth. All who attended had a real treat.
最高!至高!音楽の頂点。
First time I heard this joint was back in the mid 80's at the music box. loved it since. this joint is my religion
Боги мои! Мои мурашки просто растопчат сейчас меня!!! Сколько танцполов под неё вытоптано🙏🙏🔥🔥🔥
oh man, the vibe is ecstatic. Everyone in the orchestra are moving together with beat, well done. Great interpretation of the track!
Midnight club street racing vibes
Thank you!!!
We just need this to be in Ny 😅.i come to this video every year. The Beauty of it all.
Stunning!
AMAZING
I can't believe a HOUSE MUSIC track is beings played by an orchestra! I am in tears, this track came out in 1986/7.
Awesome!

Created an account after years of just scrolling through CZcams just to give a like, I mean it was at 999, had to make it 1K, although it should be over 1mil! Absolute goosebumps!
