Once Channellock is gone, we're all going to be upset, like all the other American tool companies that were either liquidated or completely sold out. I'm pulling for them as a company. They have a lot of competition with everyone buying German-made Knipex. Team Channellock! Team Made-in-the-USA! \O/

Just to put some sanity in this subject, not to hurt feelings. If Channelock goes out of business, it is because of poor quality products. That is on them. If professionals won’t use them because there are better choices they will be gone. Tools like these that hurt your hands and break are not what the pro is looking for. They can pinch your hands and are not ergonomic. The designs are not great also. We are the same people that buy $300 boots. We are not afraid to spend good money on great work gear and tools. It is on Channellock to be competitive with the other brands. I would buy Channellock over Knipex or Irwin if it was as good. I am just giving pro side of this. I can’t tell you how many times I have had this conversation with other techs! Whoever is controlling this company now is ruining it, at least for the pro side of it.

    1) have the needle nose, love them. The teeth on mine have held up fine. Daily use in industrial setting.

I was recently in the market for a new set of pliers. I needed a, lineman, needle nose, adjustable and some diagonal cutters. I weighed for a long time between Channellock and Knipex. Both have a very well know and long running line for all their tools. I read lots of reviews on both and when it came down to it I went with Knipex for all the tools except one. I already had a 12" adjust Channellock so I didn't bother to buy another pair of cobra pliers. It seems Channellock as a brand just no longer carries the same value it once did. I grew up in a household where my father's toolbox was full of blue pliers and I genuinely wanted to follow suit but after my many years of experience with them and how they performed compared to my past few years with my new Knipex lineup, Channellock just did not compare for my needs. But this is just my opinion, I could just as well be broken down on the side of the road with a set of Kleins, Channellock, Knipex, or some offbrand junk from home depot, but I rather be holding the Knipex knowing the standard of quality and dependability I can trust from those Germans.

I have the older style channel lock pliers they are newly manufactured, so far so good. I stay away from newer design products that try to copy German designs. There is a company out there called Knipex if I need a specialty pair of pliers. I agree, Channellock sucks for specialty pliers. Channellock should have stuck with their older designs. I also have some of their wrenches, if you like Carlyle wrenches you'll like channel lock brand wrenches. The wrenches are Taiwanese made, have the same anti-slip features as the Carlyle. I believe Channellock wrenches come from the same manufacturer as Carlyle. I can't tell the difference. I bought Channellock larger sized wrenches because I am a new guy as a maintenance tech, I can't afford larger jumbo sized Snap-On or Wright wrenches. I couldn't find larger Carlyle wrenches. I also have their Taiwanese made sockets in my tool bag. They are not Proto,Wright, Sk or Snap-on. But they work and do the job. For me in a lot of situations they are the only set of grips I can do a particular task with especially when there isn't much space and it's a fiddly as fuck job. They generally arent the first set of grips i reach for in most cases, but it's a damn good tool that grips hard if you set it right and does some things better than other pliers, even my German made stuff. I don't think everything that channellock makes is junk they're not perfect like Knipx pliers but I don't see too much anything wrong with them you are wrong about the wrenches and the ratchets and sockets they are made in Taiwan Taiwan makes very very good tools but with China it's hit-and-miss sometimes I make somewhat good quality tools but other times it's just bad even the best tools that China make isn't all that good it's okay and it works it's not junk but it's not the best but it will get you by and it does work for some people not everybody I will agree some of the Chinese tools is junk garbage trashthose China wok Chinese made screwdrivers are pretty decent for what they arewe're definitely not the best screwdrivers on the market but they're definitely not the worst I wouldn't say they're complete garbage or trash but they're decent I really like that China made channellock screwdrivers I like the way the handle is made and like the rubber grips the design is awesome and I also like that the steel blade of the shaft goes clear through the and has a striking cap on the end so if you need to you can lightly tap it on the back in with a hammer which is great sometimes you need that striking cab to get some screws loose and I will admit there are some companies like snap-on Napa Carlyle and there are a few other brands that make better pliers like slip joint pliers that are way better than but some channellock slip joint pliers work okaybut so are you alright some of their channel lock pliers or complete trash garbage and junk and don't work very well but it's no different than any other company like Proto snap-on Mac or Cornwellnot every hand tool or every single tool that those companies make or great tools not every single one of them are wealth caring home some of those high quality tool brands junk trash garbage tools that are completelythat's why if you look at someone's toolbox they don't just have a hole tool box full of channellock or snap-on or matco tools they have some snap-on some Proto some Cornwell some Stanley some huskythey usually have a mixture of different brands of tools in their tool boxes because not every to a company makes the right or best tool for the job and you buy what you like at the right price there are some tool companies that make a better tool than snap-onsome of the tools that portal makes or very good and very high quality and some of the tools that proton makes are not very good and you could buy a Snap-On tool that's much better or sometimes you can buy a Cornwell tool that's much better than a Snap-On but then again sometimes you can buy aMac Tool that you like the looks of or the quality of or their color and the price and looks much better but then again sometimes you can buy a pretty decent fairley high quality cheap tool not the lowest quality of to on the market but certainly not the best to on the market either and sometimes they will last you as long as a expensive tool and sometimes they work a lot better and look a lot better and some of those medium-priced tools have a lifetime warranty my point is you don't have to buy everything channellock you don't have to buy everything snap-on you don't have to buy cheap tools you don't have to buy medium price but you can buy a variety of different tools at different qualityand sometimes they will work extremely well sometimes they'll work better than buying all from one company because not every company can make ever pool on the market the besteven know my pain is the king of tools and they make the best tools out there they don't make every two will they make the best tool on the market some of snap-on tools kind of our junk or kind of suck so it doesn't matter what kind of to it is most true companies have their share of problems with their tools all and any tool can break or fall apart cheektowaga last you a long time expensive jewels that are high qualitythat are supposed to last you a lifetime sometimes they can wear out within a few months or part of the yearinexpensive tours can be damaged and tore up and some people think snap-on is complete garbage because because they didn't think the quality was made very well for the price they pay for it all depends on how you use it and how you treat it and how you abused it familia para channel locks might not get damaged or tore up or may last me for the rest of my life and if you bought the same pair that might break band snapped off not last you very longplay my only last you a couple of weeks or maybe a month before they're totally screwed up order teeth are flattened outand the tools no longer work while mine still looks like brand new and still works and we both use them the same amount of time and we both use them just as much it just depends on how a person uses themone person might receive a bunch of damage on their channellock tools lost someone else uses it might not see any kind of damage on their channellock tools so it just depends on the person using it and how they are and whether they're rough with it and don't care or whether they're easy worth it whichever the case or whether it's poor manufacturing from poor quality soft metal it could be a combination of all of the above your tool friend Brian Williams Guthrie Oklahoma take care

The 430X are excellent... drawer pulls. CL still has some quality pliers made today, but they do have some gimmicky crap also. Sad to say but it reminds me of sears craftsman in the mid 2000’s. Trying to cut corners here and there to have people buy shit with their name in it. For all intensive purposes though, there are a lot of companies out there that start out strong, develop quality shit, get huge and make big money, only to sell out their name in order to make Wall Street happy. There are very few companies that haven’t gone full stolen valor, fat, lazy, ginger troll just yet, but odds are they’ll be having kids with their cousin before the decade is over. It just kinda seems to be the path of least resistance. Take Matco for instance...I know, I know, Matco sucks and only losers buy Matco, and then shoot videos on it saying how great it is, or even worse just show the crap on the truck and never really buy anything, but matco used to be kinda fun, rebellious and cool (in a Netflix and chill with a Goth girl whose choker is stretched out and loose) kinda way. They used to contract with a lot more USA made hardline tool manufacturers AND be the cheap but still quality tool truck option in the shop. Now they’re basically Amazon on wheels with Snappy prices. I’m not a tool snob. I’ve bought GearWrench and Sunex before... but like hell I’m going to pay extra for it because it says Matco on the side of it now. Same with Channellock, but to be fair, CL hasn’t raised the price of their tools very much. Unless you count she rebranded CL the tool trucks carry, like those 410s. Which by the way, are the best pliers ever... Long story short. Most businesses are short lived. In today’s times you’re lucky to have a business operate for more than one generation. Honestly, most kids that inherit businesses don’t have the same passion as their parent did. They just want to make more money than their parents because that’s how they judge success. Sad times were living in when profit outweighs pride.

The only decent ChannelLocks that I own are the adjustable wrenches. They are actually made in Spain by Irega and are the best I've ever used. For everything else, I stick with Kinipex. Gave all my blue handled crap to my mother-in-law.

Knipex isn't magic, either. Their small Electronics line is JUNK. Misaligned jaws, burrs on cutting edges, on and on.

The channel lock grip locks are junk imo.. they are only good for tightening nuts and bolts.. I bought 2 pairs of the gl 10s and I wish I never bought them.. and I also bought a pair of channel lock diagonal cutters and they don't cut worth a damn..

    • @abc-pn6yi
      @abc-pn6yi Pƙed 3 lety

I also bought 2 pairs of the 422 v jaw and they are trash too.. they are only good for using when working with 1/2, 3/4,1in EMT conduit and are using compression couplings.. I'll stick with regular 420,430,440,460s from now on.. and my lineman, diagonal cutters and needle nose are Klein and knipex..

I have yet to be let down by channellock and I will continue to buy their pliers and cutters, but they definately need to stay in their lane or get off the road.
Do they really wanna be as stupid as Milwaukee who would sell you their own brand of underwear if they could ?
I like the US made Acetate handle Channellock screwdrivers, but won't buy any other of their other overreaching products especially not the imported ones.
My pizza comes from little Cesar's, my hammers from Vaughan & Bushnell, and my ratchets from Wright, and my wrenches GOVT surplus Proamerica / KAL, I'm not buying a socket set from a plier manufacturer.
Especially if they source it from overseas.
Why do so many companies feel the need to compromise themselves in an attempt to be what Craftsman once was without doing it how Sears once did it ?
They offered every kind of tool you could need under one brand and sourced each from various American manufacturers who specialized in each category of tool, and they did it very well before the 1990's.
It's not happening today and companies need to give it up.

I have a collection of Channelock screwdrivers with the acetate handles, and they’ve never let me down. Maybe they’re not as nice as snap-on, but they are a MUCH better value.

Pratt-Read definitely did a good job with them.
And the 61A 6 in 1 driver ? 100% American made even the bits, I'm not sure the bits on the Klein are even made here if any of Klein 6-1 drivers are made here at all.

So I understand that the quality is not the very best...but you are buying a quality American made tool. Having said that if you are going to trash talk a tool at the very least know and understand how to use the tool. Who demonstrates the effectiveness of pliers by trying to turn a hardened steel 3/8 socket extension. No wonder your "views" are so low.
